Since I last posted. I checked and I last posted in June 2021. I know I was going to consistently post on there but that kind of went out the window. I kind of stopped all forms of journaling but I am starting again and will try to get back on here again. I like blogging so will attempt to restart things here.

I had a busy Fall. Some major events. Those went well but kept me busy. My boss is leaving the University which makes me very sad as I really get along with her and we work well together. She wants to stay home with her baby. I totally get that but I will miss her a lot. And now I need to figure out who will help me with my events. So am worried about that. I am going to have to figure that out and have the management figure that out. Anyhoo work woes.
I have news on personal financial front — figured all my worries out here and get to reset all my finances. So that is the good news — it is a hard process to go through but very necessary. I am not going to put the personal details on here but am very glad about it. It was something I had dealt with for years and a clear solution became evident at last. So it is done and now I move on from it and leave that behind. I get to start over. I am going to learn from this experience for sure. I have learned a lot and think I won't make the same mistakes again. So in all these vague terms — it is good news.
We are having hot weather this weekend — I know it is Fall for most of you but I live in California and we have California Summer in Sept and October. It is 80 degrees today and sunny. I think I am going swimming tomorrow to cool off. So that is where we are at here. California Summer. Luckily this year it is not get very hot. I have this air conditioner and I have not had to use it yet. My rule is — I use the AC when the temps get into the 90s — well so far — the temps have not gotten that high. Mostly low 80's and that is just not hot enough for AC as far as I am concerned. I got the AC for really hot days when it is roasting in my third floor apartment — and so far this year — it has just not been that hot. That is good for my utility bill as AC is expensive to run.
Anyhoo — that is all I have right now. Thought I would put a post on here. I will read the friends list tonight. Hope all is well with you there.

Rain here - and we always need rain here in California so I like it when it rains. I am here in the house trying to decide if I want to go food shopping. I think I do. I need to do a quick run to Safeway and get some items so I will do that shortly. I am out of things for lunches so better go get some things and snacks. Will brave the rain for snacks.

I heard Biden talk about his progress with the pandemic and he has made progress. The vaccination rate has increased by a lot - he hit his number of 100 million people vaccinated in the first 100 days - he did better than he said he would so that is good. Things are looking up. I have been in the house for days so I am still in pandemic mode. Not quite ready to open here. I guess my mindset will take a while to change. I am not quite there yet. I am glad things are getting better but we have variants to worry about and I am concerned that things are opening too soon. Will we have another surge like Italy did and have to lockdown again? These are the things that I think about. I guess you could say I am a worrier. I get paid to worry about things going wrong for a living as an event planner - so that is how my mind works.

I am curious about what other people think. How will we know when the pandemic is over? Who calls it? I think Fauci should. He is usually right about these things.

Anyhoo. Today's musings. That is about all I have. I am sure crossposting will not work so I will have to double post this entry. What a drag. I have opened tickets about that and LJ was pretty non-cooperative on it.

Hope you are well and staying healthy there. Ciao.

It's only Monday and technically it is still winter here but today it was really sunny out and 70 degrees. Definitely not seasonal weather. Tomorrow it is going to be 74 degrees out. I think I will break out the shorts and t-shirts and flip flops. Why not?

Mishaps at work today. A faculty member missed my committee meeting and messed my project up. I run this award and he was part of the decision committee for the award and they could not get the work done (ie award the winners) without him. We waited for 45 minutes to see if he would show and then rescheduled the meeting - hoping that he would be able to make the new meeting. The no show emailed me later - he emailed the whole committee and apologized. He had forgotten the meeting and was very embarrassed. He is not teaching this semester so he is very loose with his calendar. Bummer for me - now we will have to rush everything. This is not how I like things to be but it is not my fault. I send all sorts of reminders about it. So it goes. Now I have a late afternoon meeting tomorrow. I try not to do late afternoon meetings. Oh well.

I am listening to a city covid meeting right now and they told us earlier that the UK variant has been detected here. This is very scary to me. I don't like those variants. They are more contagious and it is just not good. Not happy about it. So what that means is that I still have to be careful. Now is not the time to relax. Overall the numbers are coming down but these variants are out there. We have California variants too. Just got the vaccine - better stay safe - keep it together. I can do this. Not freaking out but just feel like it is good to be informed on this stuff.

So that is all. Trying to stay healthy and safe while my immunity builds here. Hope all is well with you.

Hello

So I was not feeling the Snowflake Challenge from yesterday so I opted not to do that one. That is ok - we don't have to do all of them. Best not to force these things.

I got good news at work - they are postponing the furlough program. It was supposed to start Feb 1 2021 and now they are going to start it next fiscal year which is July 1, 2021. It is a reprieve of sorts. That means that things are not so dire and looking better. So I will take that. I had already taken a furlough day this week but I converted that to a vacation day and that was that. I think a bunch of people had already started taking chunks of furlough time so I don't know what will happen with that. They will have to figure something out. But I am glad - my pay will not be reduced just yet. That is the good news.

I am really missing Teddy but I am trying to make sure my other kitty, Bear is ok. He seems to be. He is eating ok and I am playing with him a lot to make up for Teddy not being here. He needs stimulation and interaction. So I have to be his buddy now that his feline buddy is not here. So I am working on that and ensuring he gets good running around time here. Don't want a depressed cat here. So being there for Bear is very important.

That is about all I have - it has been raining here so I have not been able to go walking that much. We lost power one night this week so that happened. It was only for about 4 hours. Not too bad. It is pretty cold for the Bay Area so definitely trying to keep warm here.

That is about it for me. I don't know what to do with myself now that I have finished my MSV story. I posted that this week and it is done. No more stressing about it. I am happy with how it came out so I hope my person likes it. I can stress about that and worry about how it will be received. So I will do that.

Happy Thursday, all. Almost the weekend. Looks like we are getting good weather for a few days so that is looking up. Stay healthy there and stay safe.

It gets old - we are on our 4th night of protests here. I am sympathetic - I really am (and I think we need some reforms on Police procedures) but living right in the middle of the protest zone is getting old. Helicopters over head, roaming bands of anarchists, looters and pillagers. It is very chaotic and very stressful. It is at the point where the average person does not want to be on the street after dark because of their personal safety. We keep getting alerts at the Uni about what is going on and early release time so that we can get home safely before the protests start in the evening.

Last night they blocked the 80 freeway - a major artery through here - they stopped an Amtrak train and they closed the Berkeley BART station down. I guess that would mean they are being effective since they are getting national coverage. But living here - well it gets old. It is weird seeing your town covered on the news all the time - in real time - live and up close.

I think with a major storm coming in tomorrow night - that will shut it down. Protesting is a fair weather activity.

Anyways - that is all I have - got some Christmas shopping done - all online - woot. And I have sussed out some gifts to buy from some local shops - so I am in good shape here with my holiday cheer.

Tomorrow is my holiday party at work and then I am going to see Yo Yo Ma at the local theatre - he is giving a talk on art and culture. Should be interesting. I have been into this speaker series the the Uni lately - broadening my mind.

Anyhoo. That's it for me. Hope all is well with you!

Still hot here but it is a dry heat. *wilts* I cannot take much more but according to the iphone tomorrow will be 10 degrees cooler. Praise be the weather genies. I cannot wait for that. I forgot to water my plants so I am sure they all died today. I want all new ones anyway. Kind of tired of those anyhoo.

So I have had to go to the chiropractor again with this neck injury. I just put myself on hiatus at most of the graphics comms I make in. I am taking the month of October off. My chiro wants me to reduce my time on the computer as much as possible so got to do that. I have to work so that leaves personal time on the computer. I am really going to try this limiting my home time on the computer and see how I do. No one is liking my graphics stuff right now anyway so I might as well not make anything. Not sure why that is. Personally, I like my stuff so I don't care. I don't want to make what other people make and will not copy stylings of other people. Also, that is less work for me so it is all good. Less repetitive strain! Ha! So really - I am not looking for pity on the graphics thing. I like what I do and make what I want to. That is it for me. This is not a graphics rant it is how I feel about graphics. I do debate making at all sometimes so a break is in order. A month off is just about right. I am sure I will get my mojo back - and if I don't, that is something.

Anyhoo, another hot day here. I am going swimming tonight and will try and NOT be on the computer tonight. *breaks out into a cold sweat*

Ha. See you around!

I really hate hot days and we get two a year. It is like 90 degrees and I am a wimp. B*tchy moan, moany b*tch. I hates the heat. I am a cold weather girl. When I was growing up on the East Coast, I used to hate the summer hazy hot and humid summer days really. Give me cold, fog and more cold. I like flannel pajamas and down comforters.

So I am lame as it never gets that hot here and today is an anomaly at best. Tomorrow it will be cooler and the next day cooler still. But I guess I feel like complaining and that is that. This post is a rant about the heat. Also - I live in a third floor attic apartment and it gets really hot in there. I mean d*mn hot.

So that is that. This is my rant. I want the cool weather back! You will not catch me complaining about the cold. I have lots of sweaters and warm clothes. I wear gloves and love it!

Post your feelings about the heat here. For those of you who do not know, I live in the Bay Area and we get late summer - Sept - Oct here. So hot weather comes later. That is also rantable. Autumn is supposed to be cool not hot.

Just call me Ms. Ranty Pants about the weather.

Oh boy gang. It is thunder and lightening here. I love me a good storm right out my window. Yes! I was a storm chaser when I was younger. Always out in bad weather with my friends doing dangerous things. The thrill of it all. Running around in hurricanes and watching hell break loose.

There is something so primal about big weather. We got it here ... some good sounds that make you feel small and insignificant because hey, we are not really in charge of anything really, nature rules! Yes, she does!

Wooooooooo eeeeeeeeeeeee!

My iphone said it was going to rain today. The weather person on the morning news said so as well.

All day long clear blue skies, little cold but no rain.
No rain.
No rain.

I dressed for rain!

Guess they got it wrong.

It seems I was a little premature in my forecasting. They are still predicting snow here! Woo!

http://news.yahoo.com/video/us-15749625/san-francisco-awaits-snow-24316002

It is all over the news. So hoo de doo! It does seem to be getting colder. Anyhoo.

Revision - it seems as though the probability of snow is 10% now. Just to give an accurate picture of that.

Happy weekend one and all!

Snow will fall to elevations as low as 1,000 to 2,000 feet in the San Francisco Bay Area Thursday night into Friday. By late Friday into Friday night, it's not out of the question that some flakes may fall as low as sea level in the Bay Area. This is all dependent on how much moisture is leftover as the coldest air arrives.

Woo!

Keeping the flist informed as to the shifting landscape of the weather here in Bay Area! We are wimpy here but this is big news for us!

Woo!

It is rare in the Bay Area that weather is the topic of conversation at the cafe but they are predicting snow tonight...

SNOW!!!

Ho MG! I am so excited! People were talking about this in the local cafe and wondering when the last time we had snow was and all that. It never gets cold enough for snow. How very exciting. Woo!

This is at Mt. Diablo in Walnut Creek due East of here about 20 minutes but snow was sighted on Grizzly Peak in the Berkeley Hills. Woot!

We never get snow here! Huzzah!

I have been up since 4 30 am when I did an airport run for a friend.

Of what is unfolding in Hawaii right now. My thoughts are for those in Chile and that devastation. It seems that the planet is trying to let us know something with all these disasters or I don't know. I was in the bank this morning and had one of those strange conversations with the teller. We noted that there have been so many natural disasters lately...it is almost biblical. Feels like portents of something. I don't know.

I find CNN annoying but this seems to be the only way to get the current news. They say the wave could range from 2-8 feet. They have moved people to high ground there so one can hope. They have had tsunami's in Hawaii before and I think they are well able to handle this kind of thing. They know the drill. High ground...I think when they come without warning, that is where the devastation comes in.

We have tsunami warnings up and down the Pacific Coast and people are warned to stay away from the coastal areas. Makes sense. Will see what happens with that. I am on the coast but not on the water. No evacuations here...last time we had a warning the waves had dissipated by the time they got here.

Other news...
So...did some Saturday things. Shopping, errands, pet store. Got my St. Patrick's Day cards. My pay check hit early and that was very nice. I saved about 45.00 by shopping sale items at the store. Score! That was great. Great deals on coffee this week. Yahoo. I bought scallops and will try my hand at cooking those. The seafood dude had some good tips on how to cook them up so I will try that. I love me some scallops. I also got salmon. Trying to vary my diet.

Cheers and happy weekend to all of you. This was an update, imagine that. :)

Rain and more rain.

Rain everyday this week. Oh the monotony of it all.

Feels like it has been raining forever.

*dramatic sigh*

This has been a post about rain. Don't get me wrong. I like stormy weather.

Ohh! We had thunder, lightening AND rain two days this week too. :)

Yeah.

In the rest of the world summer is winding down but here in the Bay Area we are heading into our hot season. Today the temp hit into the 90's. Now I hate hot weather with a passion unrivaled. Horrible hot weather. I am a winter if anything. Give me fog, chilly, rain...COLD. So if I am grumpy, just write it off, it is the weather and I am possessed by some horrible demon. Heh.

In other news...work is heating up as well as my big alumni event happens on Sept 10th. We are struggling to meet our attendee numbers mainly due to the fact that we are charging for the event. In NYC we did not charge for this event and we had a waiting list a mile long but now for budget reasons, we have to charge and hence the sweaty palms when I look at the RSVP site. Just *bites nails* I think we have met our target now and it will go off but that was close and tense.

At the end of Sept I have a California vacay planned with the vivacious [livejournal.com profile] khylea and we have some fabulous things planned. I will need the vacation by that time and a bit of R&R. So much going on.

So that is the short story. I started a fic today and have another one going as well. Good things there. I have read a few more AiA fics and will post some more reviews if you all want to see those. I am really enjoying these quite a bit.

Cheers to all and there you have, my update. Hurrah!

Today's bit of happiness...

Clear sailing and on to vacation. I am almost done here at work and I will be off for two weeks.
*shimmy* Happy me.

I am feeling much better now and doing great. I just checked the weather through the weekend on my points of travel and it seems like I am flying through two snowstorms.

Oh boy! I better scout hotels in Illinois. Free wifi here I come. Woo.

Today's little bit of happiness is:

A well heated apartment on a cold and stormy night. Cozily in my jammies and hanging around.

Dental issue is resolved. I have a serious infection which is now being treated by a round of antibiotics and I had surgery today. That is about all I feel up to saying. I got excellent care and the surgeon had a great sense of humor. A real laugh.

All set here. Thank you for the lovely comments. I am recuperating here at home. It was stressful but done with for now.

So ends the day without livejournal. I checked once to see if it was up but other than that I was monumentally busy. Lots of work to do and I got a lot done today. I am glad livejournal is back as it is a part of my daily life and I like to check in here. Is it supposed to be moving faster? Because as far as I can see, it seems slower. The move has not increased the speed any.

Work today, frenetic. I got chewed out for an ill-timed email on comp time. I was requesting comp time and the email was supposed to be sent last Thurs. I had taken no response as an approval of the comp time so I worked it. Well, the email had never sent. When I checked back in my sent messages, it was still there hanging out as an unsent message with the icon indicator for that. The issue here though is that my boss is reneging on something she had agreed to in my review, which was that she would allow opportunities for me to work a little extra and earn comp time hours. I am not talking a lot of time but some. A few hours a month. Now she is saying that is not possible. I am not going to make an issue about it but in my position at work there are very few perks really and this would have been a nice one--to accrue a small cushion of time to use for appointments and what not so I don't have to constantly feel behind the eight ball on the time off thing. She was angry at the timing of my message until I explained that the message was supposed to be a request that happened before I worked the time...she calmed down. I told her that I don't usually do things without approval, as that was our agreement. So, not a great conversation.

This gets to other things, which are the greater ambitions of life. I do like where I work but I feel that I could be working on a more professional level. The job market is terrible but I have the drive and initiative to work on a higher level position. I just have to take a look around and see what is out there. Time to update the resume. I would like more money but given the budget crunch, I am not going to play that hand in the open yet. I will look and see what is listed at work. I like the Uni and so want to stay there. I have sweet benefits and retirement. No need to mess that up.

Sooo...rankles.

So welcome back everyone. I am off to babysit tonight. I feel the need, the need for tacos. So I am taking the kiddo out for Mexican. Yahoo. Fall is hitting too. Fog layer is rolling in and the temperature dropped dramatically. Hootay.

So I had a pretty good week.

Training Session

I had my second training session for the event planners certificate program at the Uni. We got fed really well and this week it was vendor day. Lot's of Uni vendor's gave us presentations on their services. I knew most of them but I did learn some new things. Food good, coffee all morning, out of the office most of the day and free, excellent lunch. The dessert was not a good thing for hot weather...bread pudding. But that was about all I can find to complain about. That was on Toosday.

I got a MOFO award

Sitting there in a staff meeting, they announce my name and my associate dean boss reads this long list of things that I did that are outstanding. I got a STAFF RECOGNITION award from my department. This is the second such award I have gotten in the last year and a half. I was pretty surprised as I did not think I would be able to get two. Knock me over. Really.

Bring in the fog...

It is so blasted hot here in the Bay area. I really hate hot weather. My apartment gets hot. I cannot sleep. I am a cold weather, winter type person. If it is hot in my house tonight, I am going out to the mall. No kidding.

Longest story EVER...

My Ardor in August is over 10k. What? They better like it.

That be it. Comment if you dare.
