Rain here - and we always need rain here in California so I like it when it rains. I am here in the house trying to decide if I want to go food shopping. I think I do. I need to do a quick run to Safeway and get some items so I will do that shortly. I am out of things for lunches so better go get some things and snacks. Will brave the rain for snacks.

I heard Biden talk about his progress with the pandemic and he has made progress. The vaccination rate has increased by a lot - he hit his number of 100 million people vaccinated in the first 100 days - he did better than he said he would so that is good. Things are looking up. I have been in the house for days so I am still in pandemic mode. Not quite ready to open here. I guess my mindset will take a while to change. I am not quite there yet. I am glad things are getting better but we have variants to worry about and I am concerned that things are opening too soon. Will we have another surge like Italy did and have to lockdown again? These are the things that I think about. I guess you could say I am a worrier. I get paid to worry about things going wrong for a living as an event planner - so that is how my mind works.

I am curious about what other people think. How will we know when the pandemic is over? Who calls it? I think Fauci should. He is usually right about these things.

Anyhoo. Today's musings. That is about all I have. I am sure crossposting will not work so I will have to double post this entry. What a drag. I have opened tickets about that and LJ was pretty non-cooperative on it.

Hope you are well and staying healthy there. Ciao.

So my parents have sent me the One Ring - I am not kidding. They found this on the discard table at Barnes and Noble - discontinued items and they got it for free. My Dad, who has seen all the movies, recognized its worth and so he grabbed it. The precious. Anyways. It is a pretty cool little item. I don't really do collectibles but I don't mind having this. It's cute. I like that it has the Mordor language inscribed on it and it comes in a cute box with a nice interior. The price on the outside of the box was $95.00 so it retailed for a bit of cashola. I would not buy this myself but as a gift that did not cost anything - sure. Kind of like how Frodo got the ring, right? You never know how the ring will come to you! It is a pretty hefty weight and looks like it is gold plated. Not too shabby.

Here are some pictures of it -

Other than that nothing much is happening here. I am working and trying to plan events for next year with no information from campus on what we can do. So that is interesting to try. No one knows anything. I am glad I only have two lectures in the Fall so that is easy to manage. Not too many to wrestle with.

I am glad Biden got the aid package done and signed. People need the help right now. The country is still recovering from the economic impacts of this pandemic. Other countries did a whole lot more than the $2000 direct stimulus that we are doing. I am glad they are keeping the unemployment going too. People need that for sure. Not sure what the Republicans are thinking. Evidently they think people don't need help - they all voted against it - literally all of them. They are all working on voter suppression in the states - I think that is their thing right now - keeping people from voting and making it a lot harder for people to vote. That's their game - don't help people and keep them from voting. I am not making this up. This is what is happening. The voter suppression is coming from the Republicans in the states not the Congressional Republicans but they are all part and part. Same machine.

I got myself all worked up there. I go on Saturday for my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Very excited about that. Hoping I don't have any side effects from it - the reports are mixed. Some people do and some people don't. Hope I don't. I will let you know how I do.

Anyhoo - that's about it here. Hope you are well - over and out.

So here I am - have not posted as much this week. It got busy. I will try and do better. I have been working pretty steadily this week and I was supposed to go to Santa Cruz, CA this weekend but my plans canceled which was fine with me. I would have liked to go but I also had things to do at home. With the time saved - I got my apartment clean and did things around here and so I was productive. So that felt good. Instead of that drive - we went to nurseries around here and did local things. It was fun anyway. We plan on taking the trip later in the Spring when the clocks have changed and the days are longer.

My car is having problems. It is the transmission. It has been jerking when I drive it - sometimes. Sometimes it does it and sometimes it does not. So I took it to my mechanic to have it checked and they said it is likely the transmission. They are going to try and service the transmission and see if that solves the problem. I hope that does or I am out the car and cannot afford a new one. So I hope I am not screwed here. I do love my little car - it is a peppy VW Rabbit and it is fun to drive. I just want it to last some time here until I can afford an electric car. Just do that, car!

I find I am not as obsessed with news coverage under the Biden Administration. I don't feel like I have to obsessively watch the news cycle and things are not as disastrous. I watch things weekly and keep up but it is not a daily thing anymore. I can go some days without watching the news and feel fine about it. I guess I feel like the government is in more competent hands. I still have to pay attention but not as obsessively as I did under the Trump Admin. It is more of a what happened this week than a what f*cked up thing happened today. So that is a shift. Staying informed but not stressing about It.

So that is about all I have to talk about right now. Hope all is well with you! Stay healthy!

So I am making myself watch Fox News so I can see what they are saying on there. I think it is good to see what the opposition is seeing sometimes. I cannot watch it for too long - it is really terrible - but you have to see this, really. It is very, very slanted. I imagine if you only watched Fox you would have a pretty warped view of things. I am sure there are people out there who only watch Fox. So I want a dose of what they are getting. It is giving me a headache pretty much. Lots of white men on here for sure. Predominantly right now. I know they have women on here too but the hour I am seeing is all white men.

Anyhoo. Glad it is Friday. This week was great but I am tired. All my energy is sapped. I need a recharge. I am going to try and do some walking this weekend and eat better. Hope I can get it together.

Biden has been doing a lot - he has come out swinging. Definitely ready to take charge. If the White House Facebook page is any indication - those Trumpers don't like it. They are a whiney bunch for sure - making their negative comments. They can do that for sure. They'll be glad when their stimulus payments start coming in. Just watch. It's early yet - and those Trumpists are still butt-hurt that they lost the election - and they are a loud bunch of people for sure. Emotional. I know how it feels - I felt that way when Trump came into office so they can just deal with their feelings and move along. I spent four years snarking at them on that White House page so they can comment all they want. As long as they don't hurt anyone. Comments are fine.

Anyhoo. This got long but that is all I have. Today is not a Snowflake Challenge so there won't be a post about that. Have a great weekend - I will try and post on here.

So I watched the recorded (and somewhat pathetic) farewell ceremony for Donald Trump today. Just had to be sure he got on that plane and left for Florida. He is gone and bye bye, Donnie. So ends the dumpster fire of his presidency. Bye bye.

Now I am watching the inaugural and I am in such a good mood! I feel like this is renewing us and our democracy. My spirits are so lifted. We are ready for this renewal and I am so happy that Joe Biden is taking office. I am into all the ceremonial stuff that is happening today and they are doing it in a very covid safe way. Toned down events and online activities. Very good planning. I am sure they will save a bunch of money on this inaugural as it is online for the most part. Not many in-person events for it.

I look forward to seeing what the first 100 days of the Biden Presidency have in store. I think he will really try and get this covid thing under control and get people vaccinated. So that will happen. I am not sure what else he has planned but I hope it will be good.

We need this renewal after the craziness of the last four years. We really do.

So today I was brought to tears - in a good way - I was watching the Memorial Service for Those Who Have Passed from Covid on my television set and it brought me to tears. It was organized by our incoming President Biden and Vice President Harris. Finally, we could grieve as a country for all those we have lost in this pandemic - more than 400K people so far and there will be more before this is all over. Finally we can recognize what we have all been through. It was simply beautiful and meaningful and the right thing to do. I am hopeful that our country will be in better hands now. I am encouraged that things will get better. All of that flowed out of me today as we grieved together as a nation. Bottom line, I am hopeful and that made me cry too. It has been a while since I felt that way.

Finally, tomorrow is the inauguration. Looking forward to that. I will be watching.

Ok - I can write about writing now - I am spending the day writing today. No other plans but to write my Slashy Valentine. I have 4829 words and am at the good parts. The naughty bits. The slashy parts. It is going well. I am hoping to finish today or get most of it done. I have not written smut in a while but this story sure wants to be naughty. I usually don't do smut but this is going there for sure. I have to do what the story wants so that is what I am doing.

Inaugural is two days away. We have troops amassed in DC and all over the country because they think Trumpists are going to cause trouble. This is a really sad state of affairs but better safe than sorry. These people are not going to go quietly away. There are a lot of them and they believe what Trump says about the election - they think it was fraudulent and that we stole the election. I have friends that believe this and they think they have proof of it. They don't but they think they do. So it is a sad state we find ourselves in. There are 74 million of them - I don't think all of them feel this way. Fox TV is losing viewers so that is something. There are enough of them to cause trouble, as we have seen. So keep an eye out - I think we need to be observant. Biden has his work cut out - lots to do to recover from the Trump years.

It will take time but I am encouraged. More optimistic than I have been in a while. The Trump years were hard but those will soon be behind us. Trump can slink out of DC and then be prosecuted for all that he has done. One can only hope.
