So my parents have sent me the One Ring - I am not kidding. They found this on the discard table at Barnes and Noble - discontinued items and they got it for free. My Dad, who has seen all the movies, recognized its worth and so he grabbed it. The precious. Anyways. It is a pretty cool little item. I don't really do collectibles but I don't mind having this. It's cute. I like that it has the Mordor language inscribed on it and it comes in a cute box with a nice interior. The price on the outside of the box was $95.00 so it retailed for a bit of cashola. I would not buy this myself but as a gift that did not cost anything - sure. Kind of like how Frodo got the ring, right? You never know how the ring will come to you! It is a pretty hefty weight and looks like it is gold plated. Not too shabby.

Here are some pictures of it -

Other than that nothing much is happening here. I am working and trying to plan events for next year with no information from campus on what we can do. So that is interesting to try. No one knows anything. I am glad I only have two lectures in the Fall so that is easy to manage. Not too many to wrestle with.

I am glad Biden got the aid package done and signed. People need the help right now. The country is still recovering from the economic impacts of this pandemic. Other countries did a whole lot more than the $2000 direct stimulus that we are doing. I am glad they are keeping the unemployment going too. People need that for sure. Not sure what the Republicans are thinking. Evidently they think people don't need help - they all voted against it - literally all of them. They are all working on voter suppression in the states - I think that is their thing right now - keeping people from voting and making it a lot harder for people to vote. That's their game - don't help people and keep them from voting. I am not making this up. This is what is happening. The voter suppression is coming from the Republicans in the states not the Congressional Republicans but they are all part and part. Same machine.
/end rant

I got myself all worked up there. I go on Saturday for my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Very excited about that. Hoping I don't have any side effects from it - the reports are mixed. Some people do and some people don't. Hope I don't. I will let you know how I do.

Anyhoo - that's about it here. Hope you are well - over and out.

I am starting to get excited about Amazon's Tolkien series - not sure what it is called but I just read this article on Rotten Tomatoes -

https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/article/everything-we-know-about-the-lord-of-the-rings-amazon-series/

It looks like this will be a Second Age time frame - with Sauron doing a lot - Numenor - Gil Galad and lots more. I love this time frame. Well seriously - there isn't much I don't like about any age in the universe. But there is lots they can do with this time frame so I am totally going to watch it. It's not really a LOTR series anymore with that timing but that is neither here nor there. It is how people are going to think about it.

Looks like casting has happened and it is starting production in New Zealand. Exciting! Squee!

I am bored and looking around the internet. Here is a fun web site for you bored ninjas - almost cast in the LOTR movies. I am not sure about the accuracy of the information and the comments are fun too.

http://www.theboredninja.com/fun_facts/the-lord-of-the-rings-cast-that-never-was/

Fun to look at and discuss. I looked at this because I was saying that I thought that Viggo was perfect as Aragorn and then wondered who else was considered for him and my googling fingers went from there. Interesting.

Fun on a Saturday night! Ha!

Tomorrow night is the last of the extended version theatrical viewings in the movie theatres. Yays! I am really looking forward to seeing this film in all its grandness on the big screen. The Battle of Pelennor, the Charge of the Rohirrim, Theoden's Speech and all that ... just awesome. I love all the movies but this one is truly epic.

Hurrah!

Here is a comment about The Hobbit...

"This movie has lost all semblance of being true to the original Tolkien novel. The movie has become an excuse for every actor and wannabe to jump on the Hobbit money train. It's a shame really"

from a message board to do with today's announcement regarding Evangeline Lilly playing Tauriel. Mixed reactions really to that and the insertion of a character into the work. Here is where you can find the story about her...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2005448/Lost-star-Evangeline-Lilly-star-Hobbit.html

Does seem a bit of a circus and I hope they don't lose the magic. I found the reaction comments really interesting.

Anyhoo. Going to see TTT in the theater tonight. Tres excited about that. Yays! Hot here today so I am having gazpacho for lunch. Yum.

So the movie was epic! Not only is it an epic tale of good and evil, as we all know but this version of the movie had a special intro by Peter Jackson himself to the fans. He talks to us sitting there like we are his pals. Nice intro to the series and the film and it just really seems to recognize that hey, we are important to him and his making of the film. Really nice there.

It was such a cool audience. Could tell that they were all real LOTR fans. Silently respectful of the awesomenous of the movie and at at the end...we all decide as a group...like the whole theater...that we will be back next week and the week after to watch them together. That was totally fun. I am in...

I AM IN!

I am seeing all of them. They are beautiful and I love my fandom. Lord, I have stories to write. All the elvish goodness gave me some ideas. I better finish my WIP first...I have six chapters done and I just better get writing.

Night all. I will be tired at work tomorrow but it is SO worth it!

I never get tired of watching LOTR. I have watched it these three nights and it is fantastic every time. I see more each time I view it and just enjoy seeing my favorite story brought to life. I would love to see the Silmarillion brought to life this way. I think it is just as compelling. I think it would have to be a longer series and would the interest really be there?

Right now I am watching the charge of the Rohirrim at Pelennor Fields and this just shows Peter Jackson and how brilliant he is. This is a real cavalry charge. It looks authentic and gruesome. The moment the two armies clash is just a stunning impact of force. So well captured here.

And I just love Theoden inspiring his people. He is so kingly.
