I am crushed. I missed national haiku day. I love haiku's. I used to post haiku's on Fridays. Anyways. I am sorry I missed this day as I love this form of poetry - so simple and beautiful. I will post a few haikus as I am not in the mood to write my own. Here is a link to the site for national haiku day -

https://nationaldaycalendar.com/days-2/national-haiku-poetry-day-april-17/

Here are some examples of haiku by the famous poet Basho -

On a withered branch
A crow has alighted:
Nightfall in autumn.

Seas are wild tonight . . .
stretching over
Sado Island
Silent clouds of stars

Why so scrawny, cat?
starving for fat fish
or mice . . .
Or backyard love?

Silent the old town . . .
the scent of flowers
floating . . .
And evening bell

So simple and beautiful. I just really love these poems. Hope you will too.

One of my all time favorite poems is the Rime of the Ancient Mariner so much so that I based the title of one of my own fics on it. Here is just one little piece and it is the longest narrative poem in the English language....

Excerpt...

Like one that on a lonesome road
Doth walk in fear and dread,
And having once turned round walks on,
And turns no more his head;
Because he knows a frightful fiend
Doth close behind him tread.

You can find the whole thing here:

http://www.poetry-online.org/coleridge_rime_of_the_ancient_mariner.htm

And here is the Wiki page with summary and plot of the epic:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rime_of_the_Ancient_Mariner

I just was thinking about poetry and what I so love about it. I might do a few more posts of some things I like but this one is worthy of note during this month about poetry.

“This is my wish for you
comfort on difficult days,
smiles when sadness intrudes,
rainbows to follow the clouds,
laughter to kiss your lips,
sunsets to warm your heart,
hugs when spirits sag,
beauty for your eyes to see,
friendships to brighten your being,
faith so that you can believe,
confidence for when you doubt,
courage to know yourself,
patience to accept the truth,
love to complete your life.”

I am switching it up on you now. I will continue with the Fraiku's but I am not finding any fun ones in the little book that I have at ye olde desk here. I think that has run its course. So off I go in search of Haiku poetry. I will search far and wide, hither and yon for more poetry for you. Some may be funny but mainly I think they will be serious works of poetry now. This is a beautiful art form and I think deserving of our audience.

One thing I did not know is that the Beat poets did a lot of Haiku poetry (thank you Wikipedia). I am going to have a lot of fun with this, I can tell.

So for the first new one here we go...

Whitecaps on the bay:
A broken signboard banging
In the April wind.

--Richard Wright (collected in Haiku: This Other World, Arcade Publishing, 1998)

Reader contributions and comments are welcome.

Short Bio of poet:

Richard Nathaniel Wright (September 4, 1908 – November 28, 1960) was an American author of powerful, sometimes controversial novels, short stories and non-fiction, informed by his status as a gifted but often discriminated against African-American.

Still tweaking the layout and I need to make it translatable to GJ. I am ready for the weekend and oh so busy here for a Friday.

This poem seemed appropriate. I am thinking of looking for more general Haiku's to post. Some more classic ones and other ones. Wonder how that would be.

*nod*

Oh for the weekend.

The Friday Fraiku. This week is a pithy little one about chewing gum. I love the mundane subjects of these. From the Chewing Gum section...

Bored with chewing gum
Really, how many kinds of
Mint flavor are there?

There are things happening on the house front that make me nervous and I am working on cleaning out all the clutter in my apartment. I will update more later.

But happy weekend, everyone.

Here is my latest cheerleader blinkie. I am having fun with these. She seems happy about the weekend too!

From the section...Anywhere But Here...

Distracted by the thought;
Where would I be? Doing what?
If I wasn't here?

Oh the Zen of that one.

I don't have much going on this weekend. That makes me happy. Woo.
phyncke: (Fraiku)
Here we go...this one is from Lunch and other Food...

A hush descends like
A spreading wave; someone has
Microwaved popcorn.

TGIF...

Fri-dag!

So this one is too good not to post but I am actually having a pretty good day here.

Had I known
Today would be this miserable
I would not have come.

Oh the pain. Oh the misery.

On a more cheerful note. It is FRIDAY! *dances* I am doing financial stuff here at work and it is going pretty well! Expenses....*oh joy!*

I don't know what the weekend holds for me. I know I want to do some writing and I am way behind on games. That is about it. Sleep too. Want to catch up on sleep.

Well it was summer earlier this week and now it is cold again. Cold and foggy.

Here is a vehement little one to cheer us all up...NOT.

Hovering over
Me like a vulture; get the
Hell out of my cube!

Sometimes it is like that...no privacy and people just invade your space. Meh.

So birthday greetings to come later and I have some icons to post too. I think a few posts to follow.

We all have decided that due to the holiday that this week has felt like two weeks. Today is the second Friday and yesterday was a second Monday. Heh. I want two weekends then! Yeah!

Comments are appreciated.

I will take this one from...Lunch and other food

Cafeteria
Cabbage--always like it more
Than I think I should.

In my news here:
*I will have a new boss come July. We had a turn over of the Deans here. I met her today and she is very nice. An engineer but seems a good sort of person. I have to do all the set up work for this but I like that kind of thing.
*I am house sitting in the hills this weekend. It will be quiet and I will have access to laundry. Trala.
*I bring my own lunch so I don't eat at the cafeteria. FYI.

Have a good weekend all. Thoughts and comments are always welcome.

This is about supervisor's. Now I love mine so this is nothing to do with me but for those of you who hate yours...this one is for you! From Office Politics/Co-workers Are Hell

Supervisor comes
Around, vaguely muttering
And leaves the same way

Hehe.

So I had a good thing happen at work today. I negotiated a summer schedule. I shifted my hours so that I get out at 4:00 pm everyday. I want more time in the evenings to do active things like head to the pool or go to the park. Just do summery activities. I have to go in an hour earlier but I figure that I am up anyway. I might as well just have my coffee at work and hang out here. No one will be in to deal with. It will be fine.

It seems like a copacetic arrangement to me. Yay!
phyncke: (Fraiku)
A real angsty one for today. I am in a good mood but the book flipped open to this one. From Office Politics/Co-workers Are Hell.

Obstacles to your
Career---more staying power
Than Rasputin had.

Now I know someone like that here so this resonates with me. Heh.

It is Friday. I love Friday. Glory be. Can we have an 'Amen'?

In other news: My Dad is coming to visit this weekend and I am very excited about that. He is doing a West Coast tour and is coming up from LA on the train on Saturday. We are going to hang out. I have tasks for him to complete in the apartment and we have sporting events to watch. I must purchase snack food. *nod*

Yay.

Trala.

Today's Fraiku selection....from Paper Cuts, Office Equipment and Other Maladies...

The broken stapler--
Bear this soldier away from
The field of battle.

In other news, the summer weather has hit woo! Bay area summer is upon us and enter the cold and the fog. I LOVE IT. We are experiencing colding trends and of course people are complaining about that. They complain about the heat and they complain about the cold. Well, I love the cold.

I am using my fog icon to show you what it is like.

It is Friday, got paid. All is good.

It is Friday at last.

Just flipped the book open to see what I came up with and it was this.

In Lunch and other food...

A bundt cake sitting
On a desk in an empty
Office----so tempting.

Innit? You can just see it...with that drippy frosting and all that. Yummm...

*snork*

Happy Friday!

From Clock Watching...

If it has to be
Friday, why couldn't it at
Least be five o'clock?

Anyone else have a weird day yesterday? I was trying to figure out why when my local barista explained that it had been a full moon on Wednesday night. It all became clear in that instant. FULL MOON FEVER. People get all wacked out when the moon is full.

That explained it all.

Oh to the weekend. Thank god almighty, I am free at last.
