Today's Post (4)

Is for the opportunities I have had, for growth and development. These have kept me from stagnating and have turned my job from just a job into a career and something I can imagine doing for quite some time. I really do think I have happened onto the career that suits me and that I am good at. I really enjoy what I do and I am getting good feedback on that too. I was settling for something else and ended up here, in a fulfilling career. I am really happy about that. It is a job that makes me think and keeps my mind engaged too.

So much gratitude for that.

Cheers and these posts are nice in that they make me think about things in my life and reflect. It is a good thing to do at this time of the year. I have one more post to do before the end of the year. Thanks for reading. If anyone is :P

So ends the day without livejournal. I checked once to see if it was up but other than that I was monumentally busy. Lots of work to do and I got a lot done today. I am glad livejournal is back as it is a part of my daily life and I like to check in here. Is it supposed to be moving faster? Because as far as I can see, it seems slower. The move has not increased the speed any.

Work today, frenetic. I got chewed out for an ill-timed email on comp time. I was requesting comp time and the email was supposed to be sent last Thurs. I had taken no response as an approval of the comp time so I worked it. Well, the email had never sent. When I checked back in my sent messages, it was still there hanging out as an unsent message with the icon indicator for that. The issue here though is that my boss is reneging on something she had agreed to in my review, which was that she would allow opportunities for me to work a little extra and earn comp time hours. I am not talking a lot of time but some. A few hours a month. Now she is saying that is not possible. I am not going to make an issue about it but in my position at work there are very few perks really and this would have been a nice one--to accrue a small cushion of time to use for appointments and what not so I don't have to constantly feel behind the eight ball on the time off thing. She was angry at the timing of my message until I explained that the message was supposed to be a request that happened before I worked the time...she calmed down. I told her that I don't usually do things without approval, as that was our agreement. So, not a great conversation.

This gets to other things, which are the greater ambitions of life. I do like where I work but I feel that I could be working on a more professional level. The job market is terrible but I have the drive and initiative to work on a higher level position. I just have to take a look around and see what is out there. Time to update the resume. I would like more money but given the budget crunch, I am not going to play that hand in the open yet. I will look and see what is listed at work. I like the Uni and so want to stay there. I have sweet benefits and retirement. No need to mess that up.

Sooo...rankles.

So welcome back everyone. I am off to babysit tonight. I feel the need, the need for tacos. So I am taking the kiddo out for Mexican. Yahoo. Fall is hitting too. Fog layer is rolling in and the temperature dropped dramatically. Hootay.

Here is what my boss, the Associate Dean had to say about my event this week. She sent this to my supervisor the evening after the ceremony. It gets put there as part of my record. I think this also establishes me here as an event planner and I now get all sorts of training and to be a member of the Event Planners Network. Woo.

******,

The ***** Awards ceremony today was wonderful, thanks in overwhelming
measure to Jane's work on this event. Jane did an outstanding job on
every aspect of the ***** nomination process and ceremony, from
collecting and organizing the nominations (17 nominations, with
roughly 170 letters, many arriving under separate cover), to dealing
with multiple requests for exceptions to the nomination procedures,
to coordinating with the selection committee and arranging for them
to meet. Jane was also the primary "point person" (in coordination
with ***** and ***** ***** of the *grad student senate*) in terms of the program
production, the awards plaques production, the catering, flowers,
room arrangements, photographer, and all publicity associated with
the event. This was a huge job, and Jane made sure that everything
went off seamlessly.

We had about 70 attendees, and everyone I spoke with was effusive
about the ceremony. Jane really made the *department* look good today!
