Just returned home from Thanksgiving in Oregon. Spent it there with friends and it was very relaxing. We did not do a huge meal - we had pizza and pasta for the dinner and no muss, no fuss. Really easy and no one stressed out. It was really very low key. Stayed at a nice Air BnB there in Medford OR and visited with people in the area. I really like it there and am thinking about a move up there when I retire. We went to this really lovely lake - Fish Lake and it was just simply beautiful.

So now what you are waiting for - Happy Hanukkah. Here is the first menorah picture. I literally just got home so I am lighting the candles late. Had a little worry about my candles fitting the menorah but with a little force - they go on nice and don't tilt at all - so I don't need to run to the Judaica store this year.

Hi there all - my last post was in October so this is not too bad. I finished up work for the Thanksgiving holiday on Friday and am off all next week so I am happy about that. I am going to Oregon with friends for Thanksgiving - Southern Oregon and will spend the holiday there. I am not sure we are actually going to have a full on meal. We might just eat pizza and do that. Not sure. I don't really care this year about the food so much so that is ok.

So that Kyle Rittenhouse verdict. How pathetic is that. He gets away with it. He murdered two people and no consequences. I have seen internet posts saying that he might be charged with federal charges so I really hope so. He did cross state lines so that would put it under federal jurisdiction. I hope so. He needs to do some time for what he did. So my hope is that there is a federal case against him and they get him for what he did. I want this idiot to do some time. I am really tired of this white supremacist thing here in the USA. Time for that to change. So I say Kyle Rittenhouse should do some time and I saw the feds should go after him.

Things have been happening with my family - my Dad has had all sorts of health problems. I will list them in order as it has been a quick succession of things -
-appendix ruptured - had to have surgery
-fell and broke his femur (upper leg)
-stomach twisted but it resolved itself
He is in rehab and recovering from the broken leg now and he will be there for some time. He needs to do PT and rehab there. There is no way my Mom can take care of him at home right now so that is where he is. We are looking into moving my parents into assisted care at some point but that will take a little time - so for now we will get them some help in the home. The difficulty with that is that there are staffing shortages with all the agencies so people are hard to find. It is a real challenge. Lots going on with my parents.

Anyhoo - hope you are doing well and have a great Thanksgiving if you are in the US and if not - hope you are doing well.

I have been really lame about posting and want to apologize. I have been pretty busy. I want to wish everyone in the US a Happy Thanksgiving. I am spending the day with friends and trying to not do too much damage to my Weight Watchers plan which is a challenge on an eating holiday. I am planning to have a piece of this chocolate cake that my friend bought. Totally excited about that. It is a planned digression.

I don't know if you follow me on FB but I have been posting a lot about the #noDAPL movement - or the Standing Rock protectors. I am very concerned about the Dakota Access Pipeline and the indigenous water protestors who are protesting the installation of this pipeline in North Dakota. This pipeline will cross two water sources and has impacted the Native American peoples there greatly. They have been met with great violence by law enforcement - extreme violence. Last Sunday they were sprayed with water cannons in 20 degree weather and a woman had to have her arm amputated because she was hit with a concussion grenade. More than 150 water protectors were injured and they are peaceful demonstrators. This is forced subjugation of the indigenous people who dare protest against the oil interests. A pipeline that we do not need, that is dangerous and that could pollute necessary water sources. I have been posting a lot about it on Facebook and twitter and thought I would post something about it here. I stand with Standing Rock and thought I would bring it to your attention. You just have to google or look on twitter at the #noDAPL hashtag and you can get important information on it.

So that is what I am thinking about this Thanksgiving. I think we should be thinking about the indigenous people on the front line in North Dakota. It will be cold and something could happen there while Americans are not paying attention. Social media is where things are reported first so it is good to pay attention to that.

So happy thanksgiving to one and all and hello to all my international friends. I will try and get better about posting. I thought I would raise this issue here. Thanks for reading.

Thanksgiving has come and gone. I had a really nice time with friends here in the Bay Area - we cooked - we hung out - we relaxed and now I have set up my Christmas tree and I am on to the next holiday. Yessiree. Onward. So back to work tomorrow.

I just finish a really good book - a memoir called Bastards by Mary Anna King about her and her somewhat unconventional family. Her parents kept having children that they had to give away because they could not afford them. She was raised by her grandparents and adopted by them (along with one of her other siblings) and her other siblings were adopted by other families. The adoptions were all arranged with the agreement that the children could find out about their birth parents and other siblings when they were of age. It was a really well written and touching book.

We also got into the amazon series "The Man in the High Castle" which is based on the Philip K. Dick novel of the same name. It is an AU historical story which imagines what might have happened if the Allies had been defeated by Germany and Japan and if the United States had been conquered by them. Very interesting to see it all play out and I bought the book for m kindle and am interested enough to read it.

So that is all I have. Hope those in the US had a great Thanksgiving and everyone is everywhere is doing well.

Well I am sick. Sore throat, achey yech. I was hoping it would miraculously go away by today and I have been sick since Friday night, Saturday morning but no dice. I stayed home today. I don't believe in infecting co-workers and really hate when people come in when sick. I am handling essentials here and resting. I don't feel well and why spread my germs all over there? All the flu posters say stay home when you are sick.

I slept some and watched the special features on my Casino Royale dvd. I am loving Daniel Craig as James Bond. We caught up on Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale this weekend and just loved them. I heart me Daniel Craig as 007. I know people disagree but for me, he is my favorite Bond so far. I grew up with Roger Moore and Sean Connery, I know, I know but I like this interpretation. Everyone has an opinion on that, legitimately but I like this one.

My friend is still here and is leaving tomorrow. We have had a fun time chilling and relaxing this week. She took off and went on a tour of Alcatraz today and is doing some things in SF. Sight seeing. Always good to do here. I am planning to go visit here in Vegas in January or February. Tres excited about that! Woot.

So hope all is well with you there and that you had a fun Thanksgiving holiday in the USA. I should put up my tree but don't feel well enough to wrestle it out of the closet. I will get to that this week.

Anyhoo. Post holiday post on in. Cheers to you all!

So I am posting my Thanksgiving greeting early. My friend R*** gets here tonight from Las Vegas and I will be hanging with friends here for the gobble gobble. I have been off this week for vacation. Got my nails done today - french manicure on my hands and purple toes. I have to lay off the computer so I am using this week to just take it easy on things and try and get my shoulder in shape. I got some bad news at the chiropractor. The injury has expanded to the chest area from the shoulder and it hurts to be on the computer at home. My set up here is not very ergonomic and I have to make some changes here so that improves.

I got my house cleaned here too. That was a big deal. I was having trouble lifting due to the injury and also wanted to treat myself to a good deep clean. Well, I am going to work this into my monthly budget. I thought I could clean but I really never got my place THIS clean. My bathtub sparkles, no cat here and it is so shiny here. This is money well spent. My friend J*** was the hook up on this one and I am thrilled with the outcome. Totally great!

Anyhoo. I hope that everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving has a great time. Enjoy the feasting, family and fun!

Cheers to all!

Oh hallelujah. I have the beauty of time unencumbered in front of me. I have things I must get done but time to do what I want. I have a friend coming in town next week and we will all be cooking and celebrating the Thanksgiving Holiday together. That will be fun. We have plans to take the ferry to SF, go bowling at the Albany Bowl. I also have to get my house cleaned on Monday and the heater inspected on Tuesday. It is nice to have all this time to do my own thing and not have to be at work fretting away on deadlines and paperwork and impending projects. Carving out this time was so important to me and I am glad that I have the time.

To quote the Rolling Stones - Time is on my side, yes it is!

Anyhoo. I will be around a bit. Not going anywhere. I do believe I should try and spend less time on the computer so I will do that. I need to rest offline and try and heal my back injuries. Let's see how I do with that.

Anyways. Happy Friday to all of you and hope your weekend goes great! I am going to see the final Twilight movie tomorrow, more out of a sense of obligation. Anyhoo, mildly curious to see how they wrap this up visually.

Nighty all.

Why do these leeches add me?! And how do I report a bot. Anyone get added by [livejournal.com profile] toothypup? One entry and millions of friends. Looks like they are trolling. If you know how to report a BOT, please drop me a comment here. I always forget where that is on LJ. It is so well hidden. The link to that would be useful.

Day one of vacation. Did laundry. Had Indian food at a restaurant I have been meaning to try. Returned expensive electronic device to Bose...and had a nice lounge this morning with an endless cuppa coffee. A good day.

I am very glad I took this week off. Could be my usual thing from now on. Tomorrow we have to shop for the Gobble Meal and get that done.

If you are interested in fantasy customized graphics, check out [livejournal.com profile] enchantedrealms. I am promoting that one and am a maker there. Join up. You won't be disappointed.

Cheers.

So I am a bit better but still am sick - congested and so so tired. I managed to drag myself to work for part of the day yesterday and get my projects into shape so I would take my vacation next week. I really did not want to have to go into work next week. I wanted the whole week off and all that free time. But really - that partial day of work knocked me out and lay me flat. I got a bit worried and went in to see the doctor today just to be sure I did not have some walking form of pneumonia or bronchial thing happening. I just wanted her to listen to my lungs and tell me all was clear. She did and all is clear. She said I just need to rest and gave me some good suggestions on over the counter things to do - hydrate, regular Robitussun and Tylenol. Low tech and very do-able.

This rest thing is not easy for me. I find I have trouble just doing that and am used to doing things. I guess I have an active mind or am hyper-active. Doing nothing is not so easy.

So that is what is going on. Trying to do nothing and rest. Sipping tea and watching Law and Order reruns on the television. Turning down invitations to do things. I don't have a clear idea of what is going on for Thanksgiving. Some sort of food but the menu has not come together yet. We might come up with a non-turkey plan (gasp).

Anyhoo. Hope you are well and having a good weekend. Cheers to you and yours.

So far it has been a really good day. I have been hanging out at home and doing my own thing. I got up early, had coffee (as always) and then did a really good power walk up to the Claremont Hotel and up the Fire Trail a little bit. Challenged myself and got a bit of a work out. I am trying to step up my game on fitness and move to the next level. I have also added some mellow weight training into my routine (did that last night and a few days previous too) - just free weights and some of those machines for the legs. My idea is to build some muscle so I am a bit stronger and have a faster resting metabolic rate. Yeppers.

I set up my Christmas Tree AND got my menorah all set for Hanukkah next week. Hanukkah starts Dec 1. I am getting my tree done this week so I have some weeks to enjoy it before I head out to NH for the holiday. Yeppers.

So far Thanksgiving has been great and am enjoying it alot. I am going out for a late lunch/early dinner with friends to Black Angus steak house -- which by all accounts is totally full up on reservations and then will be home for dessert here.

So happy t-day to all and hope you are feasting and having fun with friends and loved ones. I feel like I have a lot to be thankful for - work, friends and family. So counting all that into one big thank. Thanks to all of you for being here in the online realm. Counting you in too!

*hugs to all*

So Thanksgiving is over and I even managed to brave the shopping mania, well just a little bit. I took myself out to iHOP for lunch today and then stopped by my favorite place for ornaments, the East Bay Nursery in Berkeley and got the two ornaments I have been coveting for a while. I got the 20% discount and that was cool. One was a pretty realistic looking hummingbird and the other was a cafetera, silver coffee thing. I have a lot of coffee things on my tree. See the theme? I like coffee. :P My tree is all set up here and looking pretty. I am not even using all my ornaments so why am I buying new ones? Because I WANT THEM!!!

The holiday itself was strange. My friend J*** works herself into a mood of disgruntlement and then tends to make these nasty side comments. Normally, I would hang out over there but I'd had enough of that and realized I would rather be writing or listening to music at my own place than listening to her grumble so I took myself off home. She tends to get moody on the holiday itself so I did not think anything of it. Though today we talked and she told me about the fine time she had when her friends stopped by so I am beginning to think that her mood is reserved for me. Not sure but that is what it feels like. I got more comments today on the phone so I am definitely not needing that. A nice long break is in order and I think I have other things to do than answer the phone right now. I could chalk it up to mood but this combined with a lack of interest from her in my life...well I have definitely reached my limit. I am beyond hurt feelings into apathetic now. I don't think there is anything to do here...I am just posting about it to clarify it in my mind. I won't be ending the friendship and I will probably tell her how I feel. Just writing it down and dusting it off..etc.

Aside from that I feel pretty good. One thing which occurred to me was that I could use more money here. There are only so many ways I can save my meager salary. I am contemplating a very part time second job. It would have to be within walking distance of my home and it would have to be very part time. I have to see about this. I am not into racking up miles to get to a position so I think I will canvas some businesses in the area and see what they say. I am pretty sure I am late for holiday stuff but you never know. Just a little bit more would boost my savings and that is my goal.

Thoughts and ramblings up to the minute here. I am really enjoying time off this weekend and perhaps I will get some things done. I do have a story or two in process and could work on those. I have been reading some great Tolkien fan fic recently too and will do some reviews. These are older stories I have pulled down and printed. Some very good ones. Stay tuned on that front.

Cheers and happy weekend.

A very happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Be safe and enjoy this holiday...

Velveeta...

We have strange traditions that have sprung up in my circle here. The night before Thanksgiving is the traditional night of debauchery whereby junk food of a certain order must be eaten accompanied by a movie, noteworthy, schlocky or something. Massive quantities of soda, sugarful, diet or otherwise must be consumed and I think you can see the general trend...JUNK. I pull that theme out of the whole happening.

Tonight's menu was queso dip made with Velveeta, taco chips along with Wavey Ruffles and french onion dip. Libation? Diet Coke or Pepsi for those who like sugar. The thing about eating a meal that is ONLY processed cheese really is that it tends to congeal in the intestines and lead to a bloated feeling later. O.o

I am still waiting for my digestion to settle. :P

It was a very fun night and we watched the very dated movie, "The Bad Seed", about a child serial killer who just looks so perfect it is unnerving. Very interesting. It was quite stylized and was made in the 50's but did try to get at the nature versus nurture arguments in criminology. I find the movie holds up over time and with the clear performances of the cast. I have seen the movie a few times, way back when I was in college and it was a cult favorite then. The production values of the time and the staging give it a very charming feeling from the 50's.

I am up late and rambling but we had a good night tonight. I should be off and on tomorrow as our dinner plans are late. I will do my "official message to the list" then.

Cheers and night all.

Here is a lovely one for this week. Joseph Sayers who is just stunningly beautiful in an evocative pose. He is gorgeous. I hope you enjoy this one.

The status of me...
Winter is here and it has been cold here. Probably not cold for all of you, but cold enough that I turned my heater on. I use it mainly in the morning as it is very cold then. Brrrr! This is not a complaint as I do like cold weather and consider myself a winter person. :P Woot.

I went to see Twilight: New Moon yesterday and it firmly entrenched me in the Team Jacob camp. I just have to say. All those shape shifting gorgeous men running around, *loves*. I do prefer him with his long hair but he was still gorgeous with short hair. I thought the wolf effects were beautifully done and really enjoyed that. I am just not impressed with the vampires here but that is me. Edward...well meh. I know I am probably in the minority there but even when reading the books, I was firmly in the werewolf camp. Ha. Bella be crazy to choose the cold fishy vamp over the hot blooded dudes. But she is a bit off as far as I am concerned. :P *Jane's unique interpretation of the stories*

We did a little bit of pre-T-day shopping at the Farmer's Market. Apples for the apple pie and some of the veggies we will need. We also got home made sorbet...etc. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving. We are cooking steaks as none of us like turkey. Unamerican, I know but we likes it. Yay!

I hope that everyone is well. I just started decorating my tree for Christmas and got the jump on that too. I am all set for the holidays. Woot. --end trans.

I have come to this profound conclusion about Thanksgiving. No Turkey Day is complete and the happening hot spot is...

7-11

That is right. Course I had to run out for something and the parking lot was full with people zipping in and out of there. It is the place to beeeeeee on gobble day. ya. I needed potato chips, I think. I took the kiddo and we got slurpies. We were living.

Now I am in a turkey induced zone state and watching trash TV here at home. Had a great time today. The bird came out well, dessert (purchased, pumpkin tart from the bakery) was excellent). Very good day.

Tomorrow, retail therapy and I am determined to by my fake crimmas tree at either Target or Walmart. I will get it. Time to get out the decorations.

So I am off and hope everyone had a lovely day. Good night from this side of the world.

In other news...it is just before Thanksgiving and all through the house---ha. I am trying to get all my RPi posting done today so I can take a break from all that. I will not be posting next week during the holiday. I have a story I want to get finished and will work on that. I do want to put up some graphics offers today to and have those out there.

I think we are going to see the movie we were supposed to see on Friday, today. Bolt, some move about a doggie-og. Looks cute. I have work until Wednesday this week and then I am blissfully free. We are going get a pre-cooked turkey breast and then make our own sides. We bought a pumpkin pie tart thing at the bakery in Alameda and I think our food will be good this year. Ya. Looking forward to that. Mostly I need the time off. That will be lovely.

Cheers to you and have a great week. I will be posting here so you are not rid of me yet!
