I have been really lame about posting and want to apologize. I have been pretty busy. I want to wish everyone in the US a Happy Thanksgiving. I am spending the day with friends and trying to not do too much damage to my Weight Watchers plan which is a challenge on an eating holiday. I am planning to have a piece of this chocolate cake that my friend bought. Totally excited about that. It is a planned digression.

I don't know if you follow me on FB but I have been posting a lot about the #noDAPL movement - or the Standing Rock protectors. I am very concerned about the Dakota Access Pipeline and the indigenous water protestors who are protesting the installation of this pipeline in North Dakota. This pipeline will cross two water sources and has impacted the Native American peoples there greatly. They have been met with great violence by law enforcement - extreme violence. Last Sunday they were sprayed with water cannons in 20 degree weather and a woman had to have her arm amputated because she was hit with a concussion grenade. More than 150 water protectors were injured and they are peaceful demonstrators. This is forced subjugation of the indigenous people who dare protest against the oil interests. A pipeline that we do not need, that is dangerous and that could pollute necessary water sources. I have been posting a lot about it on Facebook and twitter and thought I would post something about it here. I stand with Standing Rock and thought I would bring it to your attention. You just have to google or look on twitter at the #noDAPL hashtag and you can get important information on it.

So that is what I am thinking about this Thanksgiving. I think we should be thinking about the indigenous people on the front line in North Dakota. It will be cold and something could happen there while Americans are not paying attention. Social media is where things are reported first so it is good to pay attention to that.

So happy thanksgiving to one and all and hello to all my international friends. I will try and get better about posting. I thought I would raise this issue here. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for this information. This is awful. :(

A wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, Sweetie! Enjoy your chocolate cake. :)

*hugs*

I've been following your posts at FB. Sadly, yours are the only posts I see about this. I also very rarely see any mentions of it in the media. It's a crying shame. It's not a thing for our days - it feels like something from the 60s or before. I'm so sad because I think that in the end big oil will get it's way, especially now that there's that orange person elected and all the jerks of this world feel even more entitled to bully.

There wasn't much about the Standing Rock protectors on the news media over here - strange really, because I'd have thought it would speak to a lot of people here. Thanks so much for talking about it, it got me looking for information and I'm now trying to keep myself informed. It's as Tal says, it feels like something out of the 60s, I'd have thought we would be more ecologically aware by now, but then of course respect for the earth flies out the window when the money's big enough.
