Post two

I am thankful for the small creatures (well small and large) that have shared my life. The pets and animals I have had through my life that have given me love and companionship. Currently, I have one cat but I have had many pets and I think of them all now. They have kept me from being lonely and taught me a lot. I will list them.

Max - a beagle, dachsund mix and my childhood pet
Picasso and Goya - pair of black cats that I had after college
Jake - black, flat coat retriever I found in Oakland at the ATM machine
Boo and Radley - pair of white cats, Boo still with me

I think I will always have a pet as I enjoy caring for animals and just love them. I have a plan to get a dog when I retire from work as then I will have the time to care for one and it will not be alone all day.

So here is to critters, large and small, thank you for what you give us, your love and devotion.

This idea, this time around was started by [livejournal.com profile] keiliss. She is posting for the 5 days leading up until new year's and detailing what makes her grateful, thankful and things like that. She had planned something longer but shortened that. Now I am going to catch up here and calculate how many "gratitudes" I would have to post (5) and post them in some manner in the few days left until New Year's and see how I do. This is phyncke's-verse and this is how I want to do this. I love the idea of this and am enjoying reading the posting.

Day 1 (Today and the Gift of Time)

I am given the gift of time, for which I am grateful. I have time to get things done at my own pace and inclination. That in of itself is remarkable and I could stop there and thank someone for that but really, I would have to go thank the Governor of California for providing me with furlough days and I don't think I want to do that. For now, I am blissfully aware of having hours in the day with which I can do what I want.

And so I, cleaned and dusted my home, organized my life for the new year. I dusted, I gathered and arranged papers and felt more mastery over my place than I had before. It felt good to have gone through my piles of papers, clothing and books...etc and purged out what was no longer needed. I usually take what is re-usable to various places for resale or re-use and then donate the rest either in our neighborhood or to Good Will.

I like to face the New Year with minimal clutter and more breathing room. I am close to this goal and that makes me very grateful too. Thankful that I am able to work on this and back to the beginning, grateful to have time to spend on these projects at home. When I am working. none of this gets done.

Free time, not so free, but used well.

If it seems a rambly bit, and it probably is as I was heading off to bed when I thought to start this. I go to bed, pretty sure that no one will have any idea what I am talking about. I think I know...but I will have to read this again in the morning. :P

As this time of year comes along, I am reminded of reasons to be thankful. I always find this a time of reflection. If you do too, write a little bit about what you have to be grateful for and give thanks. Even if you are not in the USA. It is a good thing to remember. Feel free to copy this to your journal and pass it on. No tagging on this one just pass it on.

Here goes.

I have love and happiness in my life.
I am able bodied and capable.
I am not destitute or living on the street.
I have good abilities and I make use of them.
I have people who love me and who I love.
I write and express myself through language.
I have good friends both online and in my daily life.
I love my family and will work on the relationships that need work.
I have work and a way to earn a living.
I am an active learner and am curious about things.
I have my health and work on improving that.
I will get to see my family at the holidays.
I see the beauty around me and enjoy nature.

Thank you for reading my little thanks. Feel free to do this for yourself. It does feel good to step outside of things for a moment and get that perspective.

It is Toosday and hence...Dudesday. I don't have time to search for a dude so I am posting something from my photomucket.

I titled it HUGH-baby so it cannot be all that bad...he he he.

Hugh baby... )

Worth repeating, I think. I will post something fresh and exciting next week. If anyone has any suggestions for a dude...post em here and I will take it under advisement. Just names...I like finding piccies.

*nod nod*

Now I had a dog named Jake and he was a cutie. I am not posting him here. This is Dudesday, Mensday Australia/NZ. So...for the mens. I cannot remember if I have posted him before. I did not see him in the photo account so here he is.

Oh the barechested wonder of it all...*clickety-click-click* )

Sorry for the two quick posts but gotta do them when I can.

*Nod*

#28: I am thankful for my workmate, the ever-wonderful Ms. R. She comes up with the most wicked ideas. She is devious, sneaky, underhanded and wicked clever. She's awesome.

I think that is all for today. I am sure you are all sick of me.

Today just kicked my ass. I worked all the doodle all day but I did manage to get some writing done for my elves. I am just so frigging tired.

#27: I am thankful that I have found new motivation at work and am able to improve my work performance. It feels good to do a good job and get the recognition for it. *nod nod*

Time to cook dinner. Something easy and filling.

Gads I am really tired. I will not have coffee. Not have coffee. *says again* I will not have coffee.

#25: I am thankful that we were able to get my car started. It died on the night before Thanksgiving and I was trying to figure out how to afford to fix it. It seems to be the battery and it seems to be holding the charge so fingers crossed that it keeps right on starting.

#26: I am thankful for this time to relax. I have needed to clear my head a bit and unwind. It is good to do that.

So this is the last bit of my holiday posting for icons. I made a Hanukkah icon and had made it a bit *wrong* and had to fix it. *cough*. These are the corrected ones. Let me know what you think. It is to symbolize the lighting of the Menorah for the eight nights of the holiday.

Relaxing here in Oakland with friends. We all have laptops and are sitting here playing online. Hence the update.

I made my famous ham and cheese omelette for brunch with toast and hash browns. That was a big hit.

So later we are going into Ghiardelli Square in the city for the tree lighting thing. That will be a lot of fun. The cafe's there serve the most delicious hot chocolate so we are going to get that.

Not much news here really.

#24: I am thankful for my family. Though I can not spend this holiday with them, I know that I have their support and love. They have always been there for me and I love them very much.

Good times

#23: I am grateful for time spent with good friends today. Not much time to write but we had a lovely dinner by the Bay at Quinn's Lighthouse and have been watching movies. A really good time. I enjoy my friends.

I hope you all enjoyed your time today.

So I am off on the holiday. I will not be on the computer for the next few days. *goes through withdrawal*

I have some elves to share thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jaiden_s. Or pics that I fantasize are elves. Just to leave you with some fun images. Have a great time all of you and I will catch up with you all on Sunday.

Feanor )

And his brother and my favorite....

Fingolfin )

Neither of these were drawn as elves but I think they work well for the Brothers Finwe. So there you go. Let me know what you think of these.

Gobble.

#22: Thanks to all of you for reading my journal. I really appreciate your comments and friendship.
phyncke: (how's it going?)
Monday morning. I feel well rested so it is not so bad. I just hate the idea of Monday. Starting work again. Blah.

#19: Thank goodness it is a short week and that we have a holiday. I have Thursday and Friday off this week. Amazing. I so need a break from it all. I have a friend in town from Vegas and we have stuff planned. Yahoo.

#20: Thank goodness for paid vacation. I am going to ask for half the day off on Wednesday. Because I have earned that time and because I want to. *nod* I think they will let us out early so I only need take a few hours. Yay!

I have Elvis Costello on the brain.

"Welcome to the working week..."

Movie Report
Happy Feet was a total winner. Very funny with a serious punch to it and a strong message. The music is phenomenal and it is so worth seeing.

I also saw A Good Year with Russell Crow and he is so good. It is about how a person finds his heart and soul again. Very wonderful.

I never see this many movies. It was great!

Almost done with the Santa fic. I will work on it today. It is breeding other stories. Aegnor stories...of the thinks you will think!
phyncke: (Jackass)
So I have to tell you what I did this morning, which is now yesterday. I am going to cheat and date this one back.

I went to bed on Friday night and did not set my alarm which is my usual Friday thing. On Saturday morning I jump out of bed at 6am and hustle myself to the bathroom. I thought it was a workday and that I had to get to the office. O.o I even turned on the shower before I realized that, blessed be, it was SATURDAY. Posting with the appropriate icon. He he he.

#18: Thanks for Saturday and going back to sleep for two hours. I earned my time off this week. I really did. My body aches from all the computer work I did. I had to cover for two absent co-workers and that meant constant e-mailing and PC stuff. I am going to try and rest the bod this weekend.

Bunday is tomorrow so I will do that. *nods*

Saw the latest Russell Crowe. Loves him.

Whew

#13: I would like to thank my muses for visiting me today. Just in time. I have been able to make good progress on a story that needs to be done this week.

Whew.

Stormy here but not lightning. I just like that icon. Hoo.
phyncke: (Mush)
You know it is time for my daily thanks.

#12: I have to say thanks for my friends both in RL and in the online medium. I have made some wonderfully close friendships. In fact the term "RL" is a mis-labeling. I view online friendships as no less real than other friendships. There are people at the other end of the computer and we share so much of ourselves. We write creatively together and tell alot about each other here. It has enriched my life in many ways and I look forward to the journals, IM's, e-mails and now this GIZMO thing.

So thanks to all of you for being there. *hugs*

The weekend is here. I woke up at 6:00 am and it was raining so I got my little heinie right back under the covers and went right back to sleep for a couple of hours. I love the Saturday thing. So delicious.

I made myself a latte and checked the bedhead in the mirror. That is frightening but I live alone so no one sees me but me. And I don't have to see me unless I look in the mirror. So heh.

I am getting my hair done today. Dyed, color...all the grey GONE GONE GONE. Woo hoo. How fun is that. I will look younger again. Someone at work told me recently that I looked just over 30. Well bless their little heart! I am 41 now. So that was nice. I owe it all to color in a bottle and Walgreen's moisturizer. Heh.

So on to my thanks. Two days worth since I was off yesterday.

#10: Here is to modern medicine. It allowed my dad to have hip replacement surgery and now he lives pain free and can walk like a regular person again. It really is a marvelous thing. I am so glad that he had it done and I am sure he is too. Here is too modern medicine.

#11: Here is to all that free, unstructured time I had yesterday. I slept, I ran errands, I messed around, I read, I cooked...I just did whatever the heck I wanted and it was really nice to have a day to do that.

There we go.
phyncke: (Awesome (v.2))
#9: *cowboy yell* Yeeeeha!

I have tomorrow off!

We are all relaxed here at the Uni today. Casually dressed, picking our noses. Well not really but you get the picture. Things are mellow.
phyncke: (Flanery Close Your Eyes)
#7: And then there is the mens. Thanks for thems too. Else there would not be Dudesday or Mensday Australia/NZ and other parts of the world. *nod*

So this week's choice is a bit odd. So chosen for his luminescent eyes. They be beautiful. This is a black and white photo but I think you get a sense of them. He always plays whack jobs in the movies but hey, he is making a living. I think he is cute.

Cillian Murphy... )

Have a good day and I am having pasta for lunch. I am hungreh. Case you were wondering.

Thanking meme

#3: I am thankful for music. Both music that I have played in my life and music that I have listened to. Of all kinds, from classical, to jazz, to punk, to alternative, to bebop, to funk....well you get the idea. I like all kinds of music and listen to it constantly. I took piano lessons when I was a kid as well as violin. I sing but I am mainly a listener now. It brings me such joy to hear the soothing sounds of Mozart or the thumping rhythms of STOMP. So. Thanks for music.

It is the end of a long week here in Bezerkeley. I am tired and I do not feel like cooking. It is sandwich night here. Ham and cheese and some chips. That is about all I can come up with. *sigh* That'll do.

I have a lot of writing to do this weekend. I have stories to do. Tonight is research and outline night. Tomorrow is writing. *nod nod*

If that sounds organized, do not be fooled. Heh.

Cheers to all of you. Have a good weekend.
