I am late with my last bit of the thanks meme. I missed my entry for yesterday. I got all bizzy. But this thank you has to do with this morning.

#30: Thanks for the beautiful sunrise and for the lovely morning so far. The smell of coffee, my lovely cat and the hot shower. I am just in a wonderful mood and all seems right with the world. I caught the light as it started to glow behind the hills here and it was just majestic. Somehow I never look out the window at that and I did today. It was spectacular.

I will miss doing this every day. We need another meme like this one. Hmm.

I am so glad it is the weekend.

Cal-Stanford game on Saturday at noon. There will be no driving anywhere. I do not want to lose my parking. I got the title to the old beastie car so I can finally get rid of it. YAY. Uhh. That is about it.

I will do my holiday cards today. I will.

Snacks...

#29: I am thankful that my friend Ms R here likes to share her snacks with me. She keeps me fed and happy here at work. She rocketh.

Typical day here at the Uni. I just requested a personal day off for December. I know that I will need it to get all my stuff organized.

Tonight I am buying tape and little tag thingies for all my holiday gifties. Time to get them wrapped up.

*simply having...a la la la la la*

#22: I am thankful that this day is almost over. I'm so very tired. I worked my little (or not so little) heinie off today.

Erm, hi?

Today is Friday, Vrydag in Afrikaans. I just like the sound of that, it is so elegant sounding. It looks all cool too.

So thanks for today.

#17: I am thankful for the group of people I work with. I work for the State of California. The education system and we are a bunch of bureacrats but they are really a good crew here. We just had a very fun pizza party that I got to plan for the whole department as a morale thing and it was just fun to have the whole group in a room celebrating a working week. If you have to work, you may as well work here.

*nods*

In other news---I still have not finished my Santa fic. I procrastinated all day. *kicks own butt* I did all my game posts though! O.O

I have no plans this weekend. I think I need a nap tonight. Uhhh. Food shopping on the way home. Erm. *picks nose*

I am really boring, aren't I?
phyncke: (Gato Face)
#16: I am thankful for the little feline creature that I share my home with. My cat. Her real name is Boo (she was one half of the Boo Radley pair but Radley died a few years ago). She is a sweet, affectionate little dominatrix of a cat but I loves her very much. She is my sole pet right now and I used to have a house full here.

Here are all of her names:

Boo
Ms. Thing
Domo
The Dominatrix
Pepe le mieux
Gato

I am sure I will think of more as time goes on. As you can tell I tend to name things strangely.

The Sea

#15: This one is for the ocean. Vast, mysterious. Limitless. I was listening to this song on the way home. It has a good groove and I sort of stroll along the avenue and feel like I can hear the gulls calling on the breeze. I live on the Bay and go to the Pacific as much as I can. All year round.

I love the ocean.

Lyrics...if you have not heard Morcheeba, you should.

The Sea
Morcheeba

Flocking to the sea
Crowds of people wait for me
Sea gulls scavenge
Steal ice cream
Worries vanish
Within my dream

I left my soul there,
Down by the sea
I lost control here
Living free

I left my soul there,
Down by the sea
I lost control here
Living free

Fishing boats sail past the shore
No singing may-day any more
The sun is shining
The Water's clear
Just you and I walk along the pier

I left my soul there,
Down by the sea
I lost control here
Living free

I left my soul there,
Down by the sea
I lost control here
Living free

A cool breeze flows but mind the wasp
Some get stung it's worth the cost
I'd love to stay
The city calls me home
More hassles fuss and lies on the phone

I left my soul there,
Down by the sea
I lost control here
Living free

I left my soul there,
Down by the sea
I lost control here
Living free

I left my soul there,
Down by the sea
I lost control here
Living free

I left my soul there,
Down by the sea
I lost control with you,
And living, living,
And I, living, by the sea

This song seems very Noldo to me. They are sea elves after all.

Elves!

14: Thanks be for elves. All kinds of elves, Legendary elves, Tolkien elves, mysterious elves. Lets put faeries in there too. They are just so cool and fun and stuff. Powerful, ethereal beings. Fun to imagine. They make my mind take flight and just give me so much to write about.

Lord of the Rings falls in here.
Silmarillion too.

phyncke: (Berkeley)
It has been a busy, busy day here at the Uni. Meeting this morning. Loads of work. *head swims* I get to leave early though. That is always a plus.

Thankfulness, here we go.

#8. I am grateful that I am able-bodied, that I have the use of all my limbs, my my vision and my hearing. I live in Berkeley, which is accessibility town and for that reason many people who are disabled live here. We have accessible buildings, sidewalks, stores, restaurants. We also can boast the Center for Independent Living which was the first in the country. *beams* Anyway, all this means that you see people that are not able-bodied everywhere. I see them on the street as I walk quickly to work and I never fail to feel lucky that I can walk, stride, run, jump, and skip if I so choose.

For a few years in my twenties I had a roommate who was profoundly deaf and I realized then what it is like to live without one of your senses. She handled things so amazingly well but it just makes life that much more difficult. She was a lip reader but it was tiring for her to keep that up all day. I learned sign language to make it easier for her.

So just a thing to think about. This meme is making me think of things I would not normally notice.

phyncke: (Coffee Steaming)
This is late as I was in a snit yesterday. Sorry. Today is better already.

#6: Thanks be that they are opening a Peet's Coffee right up the street from my house. Now I can be a coffee junkie all I want and get my chai tea's without driving. I can get fresh ground coffee by walking a few blocks and go hang out with the other coffee junkies. O.o

Oh boy.

Oh joy.

Coming soon: Thanks for today and Dudesday.
phyncke: (Moon at night)
So today was good day. I got some thing for me and for the house. About a year ago I think I went through a fit of depression and killed a bunch of my house plants through neglect. I let them die, the poor little things. I decided it was time to stop having a bare apartment and replace them. I found some nice plants at Long's in Oakland and potted them up. Well it really makes a difference in how I feel in here. So much more life around me. They look great.

I also bought some sox and a card for a friend that is hilarious and oh so fitting. I will send it tomorrow. I also saw a painting I want to buy. I love art. Carol Aust. Oh la la. I do not have the money but man, her work is just beautiful. Check it out here at: http://www.carolaust.com/

Right now I am cooking dinner and it is a [livejournal.com profile] tuxedo_elf recipe and quite divine. Apple sauce pork chops. Mm mm mm. Bad jew that I am, I eat pork. Yesh, I does.

So on to my thanks for today. Sunsets. Specifically, West Coast sunsets. Today's colors were oranges, and reds. Quite lovely. Watching the sun set over the Bay is just really nice. When I lived on the east coast I used to have to get up for sunrise to catch the sun over the water. Here we get sunset and it is spectacular.

I also want to share with you my latest icon. I am so pleased with this one. I got the effect of lightning striking. It looks so cool. Here it is...

That is it for this Sunday. And hoo, I thought this would be a short post. Heh.

Coming soon: Bunday. Don't think I forgot! *wicked grin*
