It's run off elections in GA today and I cannot even watch it on TV. It is stressing me out too much. Steve Kornacki totally stresses me out. He is great but his county by county breakdown stuff gets me agitated. I am checking the NYTimes bigger picture thing online and that is about where I am at right now. I am watching Law and Order SVU reruns on the TV. There is always SVU.

No writing done today. I better get back at it or I will be in trouble. So will try and write some tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the Congressional sh*t show from the Republicans. I hope they put that where it belongs - in the trash heap of history. Their coalition is called the Jim Crow Caucus because they are trying to invalidate the black vote essentially. That fits - hope they are proud of themselves. Look at what Trump gets people to do. Not sure how he does - but it sure is ruinous. I am not sure how they come back from this.

I took a nice long walk with my friend, J**** today and that was nice. We walked along Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. Nice day out today. We found a new shop that had beautiful plants and other things in it - kind of like a shop made for us. I found a nice pot for one of my new plants and it was very reasonably priced. So score.

Anyways. That is all I have today. Work is work. Lots to do on that tomorrow. I will be busy.

Stay safe and healthy where you are. Love to you.

Hi all - had a good quiet Sunday. Started out with my Sunday book group - it is a family and friends thing and we are doing readings on race in America. Currently we are focusing on James Baldwin and reading his collected essays and a book called - Begin Again, James Baldwin's America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own by Eddie S. Glaude, Jr. I have always wanted to read Baldwin and know more about him so I am really enjoying this. James Baldwin was an amazing writer - and his writings still totally apply to the current situation in the USA - he made statements on police issues and race relations that are so prophetic. Very interesting.

I took my three mile walk up to the Claremont Hotel and it is feeling really good - the uphill part of the walk is getting easier and my breathing is better on that. Less huffing and puffing. We are getting some rain this week so it will be a challenge to get my walks in. I will have to be creative. I think we have rain tomorrow and Wednesday so I will have to work around that. I will just have to deal.

I did a little work on my story today - it is getting there. Having fun with it now. I hope it is good. I really do. I never know if a story is good when I am working on it so I always have doubts about it. Anyways. It is up to about 3000 words - longer than I thought it would be but not too long.
I do have a bunch left to do so hope it does not get too long.

I have one more day off tomorrow - no work. I am glad about that. They gave us an extra curtailment day. I hope to use it to work on my story and get that in better shape. Will see how I do.

Hope all is well with you there and that you are enjoying 2021 so far. Keeping on. Today is JRR Tolkien's birthday - yay!

To the professor!

So it is here - 2021. The longest year of our lives is finally over. Am I right? Did 2020 seem to go on forever? Time seemed to stretch a bit and just stopped at certain moments. I think time was playing with us there really. Well finally it is a new year so let's see what this one has in store. Let's get this going!

Today, I did stuff around here. I went for a good long walk first thing - started that out right. The walks are starting to feel good. The first part is a long incline so I get the body pumping and really work it. So I like the challenge of that. The whole round trip walk is about 3 miles so that is a good stretch. It takes me about an hour to do. Not too bad. Today I ran into some succulents on the route. There are some great gardens here in Berkeley, CA so I took a picture of some pretty succulents I saw today. Love these.

And then I came home - cooked a nice breakfast of pancakes and turkey bacon and then got to work on some of my own plants. I have some that I have been meaning to repot for a while so got that done today. A couple of succulents and a fern. I love how they look when they are finally in their new pot. Just so happy. Here is a pic of those. Yay!

So I am doing good today. Getting things done. I really like new year's with all its hope and promise and newness. A shiny new year - let's just see how it goes. I have noticed people are pretty optimistic on social media and things are looking better on there. I do think it will take a while for the pandemic to clear up here in the United States and they need to get on it with the vaccine distribution so we have some things to get going on - but hey - at least we have the vaccine and a new administration to get it out there. I am looking forward to the return of some competency to our government. That will take a while too - so patience will be important.

Anyhoo. Happy New Year to you and hope you are feeling the optimism.

Happy New Year to one and all - I am sure people in other parts of the world have already passed midnight. It is 8pm here and all is well. I had a nice dinner here and watched a comedy show (Bob Marley from Maine) and right now I am tuning into CNN to see what is happening in NYC. It all seems pretty low key all around. Seems like the right way to say goodbye to this year. Be bye 2020 - don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Earlier today - I took a nice walk through Berkeley - up to the historic Claremont Hotel - it is a good, strenuous uphill walk so I am doing that for exercise right now. It takes about an hour round trip so that is a good amount of walking. I try to do that every day. I really need more activity so this is what I am doing. I hope to keep doing this when I am working from home and will set my schedule so I can do this.

I found a coupon for a free cup of coffee from my favorite cafe - so I went out and got that. I got a latte with it - those are spendy and might as well use the free coffee card for something that is worth it. So that was nice. I found that when I was de-cluttering around here. Bonus. I also found a couple of gift cards with money on them so that was good too. Not too bad.

So this is me for the New Year - just hanging out with the cats. I will probably go to bed early. I never make it to midnight.

I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year and hopefully we are on to better times. Much love to you.

I am really enjoying the blog here - so I will keep it up. Not sure I will keep up the daily thing but I will try. Again, I wrote in my dot journal. I got new stickers today so I used those. I found a bunch of cool sticker people on Etsy and bought them there. I got coffee stickers and succulents. I just ordered the succulents today and cannot wait until I get those. I am really into the stickers - I use them to decorate my entries - it is kind of like the graphics were that I used to post with on here. I still have all my graphics - just have to figure out my photobucket access. I forget that right now. Once I get that going, I might start using graphics again. Kind of let that lapse.

So today in US politics - Moscow Mitch is obstructing the further aid to the American people. He objected to Bernie Sanders motion in the Senate today in a total dick move. So now Bernie is threatening to filibuster and keep them there through the New Year holiday. Yes, Bernie! I looked up what a filibuster is because I was not totally clear on what it entailed and here is what Wiki had to say -

Filibuster is a tactic used in the United States Senate to prevent a measure from being brought to a vote by means of obstruction. The most common form occurs when one or more senators attempt to delay or block a vote on a bill by extending debate on the measure.

Anyhoo. I am all for Bernie doing this and let those guys work through the holiday. They can just do that. This is all over a $2K payment to people during a pandemic. Other countries are doing so much more and they won't even do this so yes, GO BERNIE! I guess they have a military bill (override of Presidential veto) they want to pass and he is going to obstruct that and see if he can force a vote on the $2k payment to the people.

I took another walk today and went out with my friend J**** to Alameda today. We just did a drive around. No stopping anywhere. It was nice to look at the ocean there and see the beach. We might go back tomorrow to walk along the beach and do that. Sounds like a nice idea to me. I am really liking walking right now. Feels good to move. I get depressed when I just sit around.

I did no writing on the story today so that was not good. I will try and work on it a bit tomorrow. Hopefully, I will.

Anyhoo - that is all I have. Hope all is well with you there. Stay safe and healthy.

I am doing daily dot journal posts so I figure I can post daily online. Why not. I guess I have a lot to say. My latest show - obsession is Amazon Prime's The Boys - super-heroes behaving badly and another amazing role for Karl Urban. Is he good in everything he does? I think he is. I am loving him as Butcher in this series. Tough, sentimental, all combined.

That is a pic of him in the role. I just love him in this. Everyone in the show is good but Karl Urban is one of my favorite actors and he really delivers the dialogue with gusto in this. They let him have his accent and all that so I think he gets to relax into it. I am on Season 2 right now - just started that and will definitely keep going at it. It is an interestin take on the superhero genre. Based on a comic book series so I might have to look into that. Anyhoo, good stuff.

Other than that - I am loving my vacation. I took a good long walk today - mid-day. Kept away from people for the most part. I always take my mask with me but when I am walking for exercise, I don't wear the mask when I am on my own. I do put it on when there are other people near me. I go at a good clip and breathing is easier without the mask. I did not run into that many people today so had it off for the most part. When I went through the shopping area - I put my mask on. No worries. It feels good to get outside and just walk. So I am going to try and do that more into the new year.

Anyhoo - I don't really do resolutions for the turn of the year. Those end up in disappointment. Those just set you up for failure. I reflect a little bit and move on to the new year. I will be happy to let this year go - it has been tough. I think we have learned that we can do things differently - maybe we can take that idea onto the new year and make that work for us.

Onward.

With this week's selection. A bit of a shadowed picture but a good one. I hope you will like it.

*Not safe for work!*

Here he is... )

In other news...
This weekend has been low key. I did some sale shopping yesterday and got more deals. Yayus. I am evaluating my wardrobe right now and taking out the bigger sized clothing (taking that to consignment) and getting clothes that fit me. I am trying not to pay full price for things as I cannot afford that. I got good deals yesterday on a nice jacket (30.00) and a dress (14.00 marked down from 100). So yays! I had a nice lunch out with J****

Today is laundry day and I am going to get that done. Then I am doing a hill hike in Tilden Regional Park today and having movie night with a friend here. That will be fun. We might just watch some DVR stuff or a movie. Yays!

I got paid early, yesterday so I paid all my bills. I feel like I am in good shape financially so that is good. Woot. I am even building up my savings. That feels really good. A little bit at a time but that works too. I auto-transfer into my savings each month and do my best not to transfer it back out.

So that is all I have. This week is busy at work. I have a webcast on Monday, training on Wed. I cannot wait until the long weekend coming up. I am trying to get that extra day off too.

Cheers to all.
