Hi all - posting in on New Year's Day! I got back from the East Coast here on Thursday and have been down with a bit of a cold from my flight. I have tested for covid twice and it seems like it is just a cold - my tests were both negative for covid. I am going to go to the city testing site and do a PCR test just to be sure on Tuesday - just have to rule things out.

I don't do anything for New Year's Eve. It was nice and quiet here. I cooked a nice meal and watched the LOTR movies at home (theatrical releases). Seemed like the perfect way to spend New Year's. I don't drink really and I don't like to be on the road on Dec 31st either. I was pretty tired from the cold and so I was asleep by 9:30 pm - very boring here. I usually don't make it to midnight and I find the New Year's Eve shows pretty boring too. Really, who cares anyway?

I was on the East Coast visiting family and had a nice time. I stayed with my parents who are very elderly and it gave my brother a break from caring for them for 9 days. I got to see how my parents are doing and I concluded that they need some help there in their daily and weekly management and that we should put in place some home health people to assist them. They need help with things like food prep, house cleaning, and things like that. So my brother and I are going to see what we can do. I did a bunch of research about companies in the area that do services so we have the info. The trick is getting my parents to accept the help. That is the tricksy part. They are very resistant to anything there - but they really need it so hoping we can make this happen.

We did some fun things there too - my SIL planned some fun activities for the holiday - we went to see "A Christmas Carol" at the Palace Theater in Manchester, NH. Just a beautiful show based on the Dickens story with amazing costumes and music there. Love this. I have seen it once before and they go every year. We also went to see Bob Marley the comedian for my brother's birthday and he is hilarious. Very funny show - side splittingly funny. Loved that. I also took my brother out for sushi a few times and we had a nice Christmas Day.

Good times. I got my Slashy Valentine assignment and it is nice and open ended. I better start on that right away before it gets away from me. Time has a way of passing quickly on that.

Back to work on January 3.

Hope you all had a great holiday time and happy new year to you. May 2023 be a better year for all of us.

Hi all - my covid results are in. Those people in the labs are working during the holidays - bless them - totally. I am negative and do not have covid. I am super glad about that and that is my happy new year present to me. Covid negative. Yay! What a huge relief!

I had a very quiet new year here at the ranch. I got some great food from this local restaurant - Rick and Ann's and was going to eat a lot of that but my appetite is really down since I have been sick so I did not eat much really. Here is what was on my menu -

-stuffed mushrooms
-beef stew
-bread pudding with caramel sauce

It came cold and I had to heat it up here at home. I started with the mushrooms and they gave me 8 of those but I had 4 and did not want to eat too many. I followed the instructions and they came out perfect and were truly delicious. Nice tasty bites there. So those kind of filled me up so I was not that hungry anymore so when it was time for the stew - I did not eat that much and then did not get to the pudding at all. So I am saving most of this for the weekend. It was all delicious but I think my appetite is down from being sick and I am eating less. I hope to work on this over the next few days.

I hope you all had a great New Year's Eve and celebrated safely and in style or in your jammies (like I did). I was here snuggling with my cat, Bear. Happy New Year!

I am doing daily dot journal posts so I figure I can post daily online. Why not. I guess I have a lot to say. My latest show - obsession is Amazon Prime's The Boys - super-heroes behaving badly and another amazing role for Karl Urban. Is he good in everything he does? I think he is. I am loving him as Butcher in this series. Tough, sentimental, all combined.

That is a pic of him in the role. I just love him in this. Everyone in the show is good but Karl Urban is one of my favorite actors and he really delivers the dialogue with gusto in this. They let him have his accent and all that so I think he gets to relax into it. I am on Season 2 right now - just started that and will definitely keep going at it. It is an interestin take on the superhero genre. Based on a comic book series so I might have to look into that. Anyhoo, good stuff.

Other than that - I am loving my vacation. I took a good long walk today - mid-day. Kept away from people for the most part. I always take my mask with me but when I am walking for exercise, I don't wear the mask when I am on my own. I do put it on when there are other people near me. I go at a good clip and breathing is easier without the mask. I did not run into that many people today so had it off for the most part. When I went through the shopping area - I put my mask on. No worries. It feels good to get outside and just walk. So I am going to try and do that more into the new year.

Anyhoo - I don't really do resolutions for the turn of the year. Those end up in disappointment. Those just set you up for failure. I reflect a little bit and move on to the new year. I will be happy to let this year go - it has been tough. I think we have learned that we can do things differently - maybe we can take that idea onto the new year and make that work for us.

Onward.

I am looking forward to the shifting winds of political fortune. They are predicting a blue wave this year for the midterm elections and the Democrats should be able to take back the Congress. I am really feeling hopeful about this and will vote accordingly. Then there is hope that they will impeach Donald Trump and get him out of there. Fingers crossed, people!

Very happy new year to you and yours. Happy 2018!

Waiting for the fire works here. Had a nice evening with friends - cooking and had a little bubbly. Hope you are celebrating the incoming year. I am looking forward to 2016 but feel like 2015 was pretty good so no regrets there. All things being equal. I don't really do resolutions so not going to do that.

Cheers to you!

Tonight is Rosh Hashana or the Jewish New Year. It is year 5771 in the Jewish calendar. This holiday is considered one of the high holidays to those of this faith.

Wiki info: (the basics)

Rosh Hashanah is the start of the civil year in the Hebrew calendar (one of four "new year" observances that define various legal "years" for different purposes as explained in the Mishnah and Talmud). It is the new year for people, animals, and legal contracts. The Mishnah also sets this day aside as the new year for calculating calendar years and sabbatical (shmita) and jubilee (yovel) years. Jews believe Rosh Hashanah represents either analogically or literally the creation of the World, or Universe. However, according to one view in the Talmud, that of R. Eleazar, Rosh Hashanah commemorates the creation of man, which entails that five days earlier, the 25 of Elul, was the first day of creation of the Universe.

For more information on this holiday you can go here:

The other major high holiday is Yom Kippor or the day of atonement and that is on September 18th.

Just thought I would post in about this. I am noting the holidays in my own way.

Cheers.

I am doing the organizing-tidying thing that I always tend to do here on New Year's Day. I like to start our all ship shape in the new year. None of last year's baggage. I cleaned out all my old emails and now I am getting rid of old mail and things lying around here. Going to vacuum and dust. All spic and span.

I like the turn of the year. A fresh new year feels all spanking new. I have shed some pounds last year and feel like I will make my goals for weight loss in the new year.

On the health front. The eye drops seem to be working. The eye is less swollen and red. Seems to be getting better. I am glad. Would have been troubling if that had not worked. They tested for other scarier things and I will get the results of that tomorrow. Ugh. I hate getting scared by health things. I feel pretty healthy in general and doubt that it is anything big.

Back to work for me. Happy New Year everyone. I think I will go for a walk later and get out in this nice weather. It is great in the Bay Area today.

To everyone on my friendslist.

Spent the night hanging out quietly here and will now head to bed. May the new year be bright and promising for all of us.

1. Drink more water
2. Be a more productive writer

That is about it for me. I don't do much on this. The water thing, I really need to do. I don't drink enough water. I want to write more fiction.

That is about it for me. Quiet day.

Just a thought as the year turns.

Lyrics from "Seasons of Love" from the musical RENT.

Seasons of Love

525,600 minutes, 525,000 moments so dear. 525,600 minutes - how do you measure,
measure a year? In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee. In
inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife. In 525,600 minutes - how do you
measure a year in the life?
How about love? How about love? How about love? Measure in love. Seasons of
love.

525,600 minutes! 525,000 journeys to plan. 525,600 minutes - how can you measure
the life of a woman or man?

In truths that she learned, or in times that he cried. In bridges he burned, or
the way that she died.

It’s time now to sing out, tho the story never ends let's celebrate remember a year in the life of friends. Remember
the love! Remember the love! Remember
the love! Measure in love. Seasons of love! Seasons of love.

My thoughts go to [livejournal.com profile] slayer9649 who is no longer with us. She led a good full life and had a wonderful spirit. No downer now. Just a thought.

Peace with all of you. Be safe and this picture here is the ball dropping in NYC.

And I have done my last laundry for 2007. That sort of feels like a milestone. Went to the laundry and did my last two loads for this year. I saw the laundry mat lady and we had a nice little kibbitz. I really do like my neighborhood and the funny thing about living in a college town is that we get it back during the holidays. It is quiet and the streets are ours again. This time of year is when you feel like a local...you live here and this is your town. Some years I am back east, and some years I am here. It feels good to be hanging with the homeys.

New Year's is up in the air but I really want to have a steak...with potatoes and broccoli. I think I will line that up. I want low key and I really don't want to be out there driving. Don't want to be a statistic. All sorts of idiots on the road new year's eve. I have not been a party girl since I was in my 20's. Those days are long gone. I may even stay in this year as my friends are being cagey and indecisive and I have about had it with that. Make up your mind, will you?

A good movie and some Baileys...hmm. It is all to be decided.

I actually like the turning of the year. Makes me think about things and reflect. Good that.
