So the snowflake challenge is over and there was no prompt for today. They did a really nice wrap up post and ended it in a very cool way. All the mods posted their thoughts. I have to say I really loved this challenge and will participate in the future. It was very fun to have prompts to work on and it got me posting in my journals. Very good stuff there. Very excellent. I was really happy to join in and I met some very nice people along the way. Happy happy.

Ending it off here with my own wrap up of sorts - just a quick shout out to the Snowflake Challenge in all its awesomeness. Now I will have to come up with my own content. La. Thanks to the mods and the people for joining me in this. Really had fun and see you next year. I will be doing it!

In your own space, Talk about Your Snowflake Experience.

So this was my first time doing the Snowflake Challenge. In previous years, I had seen and enjoyed the posting but this was the first year I had participated. I have to say I found it to be lots of fun and on the even numbered days, I was really looking forward to the odd numbered days and the posting of the challenges. There was only one challenge I did not do so I found most of them very doable and accessible. So much enjoyment. I also liked meeting new people while doing this and the commenting back and forth. I made some new friends for my journal and increased the activity on my journals by some so that was an added bonus there. My journal had been inactive for some time and I have just been getting back into DW/LJ so this was a good way to do that. So from my perspective, really loved it and I will do it again for sure. I want to thank the moderators and admins for the Snowflake Challenge for coming up with the excellent prompts and for organizing this. Such a great idea. It is a great way to generate activity on the journals and bring people together. Really wonderful. As I said, I will do this again and think I will add it to my annual schedule.

Thanks all for reading my posts and feel free to friend me if you want. I am always up for new people on my journal!

In your own space, tell us about 3 fandom resources you use or enjoy.

Tolkien Gateway
http://tolkiengateway.net/

Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

Silmarillion Writer's Guild
http://www.silmarillionwritersguild.org/

I use these all mainly to look up character profiles and information and background for my stories. There are more but these are the main ones.

In your own space, resurrect an old meme. Have fun with it! Which is the goofiest meme you can think of? Put on your party hat and be silly!!

I never got that into memes but I used to find grumpy cat funny. So that is the meme I will revive. Stay tuned. Grumpy cat passed on to the rainbow bridge but there are tons of the memes on the internet. Great kitty.

In your own space, create a fanwork.

Uhh. I don't know what I will do. Maybe an icon set. I just finished my MSV story but I cannot post it yet and I am a little burnt on writing for the moment. Icons seem good. I will post one based on some Tolkien stuff.

So I did not do a fandom icon - I just made a landscape one. I used to make graphics all the time and post on the graphics communities. I pulled a landscape image and made this one. I don't know if it is technically a fanwork but it is a work that I created today so it is something.

I will likely load it to my LJ since I have more icon space there. It came out nicely.

In your own space, write a love letter to Fandom in general, to a particular fandom, to a trope, a relationship, a character, creator, episode, or it could be your fandom friends. Share your love and squee as loud as you want to.

I choose to write my fandom letter to the Tolkiens - JRR Tolkien and Christopher

Dear Christopher and JRR,

You have provided me with a lifetime of enjoyment, of joy and wonder. I never cease to find something new in the world of Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion (and the Hobbit) and it will never cease to interest me. There are not many things that I find I love this much but your works continually bring me joy.

JRR thanks for creating these works and the languages that go with them. It is brilliant and involved and amazing. Every time I read your books, I find something new there. They are so rich and detailed and lovely. Simply beautiful, delightfully complex. Elaborate and meaningful. I have been able to make them my own and use them to fuel my own creativity. I am sure that is not what you intend but it has helped me.

Christopher, thank you for inhabiting your father's world and bring more of it to light. Your life was dedicated to his work and that gave me more of this universe than I would have had otherwise. I appreciate all your have done and your devotion to his ideas. All the books!

I love these works and feel like I inhabit them when I read them and write with your characters. It is such a gift you have given and I don't think I will ever tire of it. The road goes ever on and on...

Yours truly, Me

In your own space, brag about yourself. Tell us what things you've done that you're proud of; the things that make you the wonderful person you are.

I have some favorite stories that I have written. Ones that I actually enjoy reading. Some I don't go back to but these I like. So here they are.

A Fine Mess or an Elvish Sleeping Beauty by phyncke

Like Flames
https://archiveofourown.org/works/6242731
(Another Aegnor one - I seem to like him)

A Sleep Over
https://archiveofourown.org/works/6242656
(Galadriel and Aredhel have a sleep over - disaster in the making)

He Should Neaten His Hair

(Aegnor and Andreth)

Pass the Peas, Please
https://archiveofourown.org/works/6242827
(Galadriel really likes buttery peas)

I was going to write a series about the Noldor cousins and think that is worth doing. This is a nice reminder of things I was going to do and projects I had intended. Makes me want to get to writing again.

In your own space, create a wishlist.

-all sorts of books always on my wishlist - too many to mention in this post - lots of books of all different types - I am forever buying books. The list changes all the time but it always contains books - of all kinds - kindle, audio and real books.

-I would love a bit of artwork to accompany my current fanfic - Maedhros and Fingon as young lads before all their troubles during the First Age - I am writing about their growing up in Valinor. So them as young lads.

-stickers for my journal. I cannot stop buying those on Etsy so I am always looking for cute little stickers for those.

(still thinking but this is the first things I have come up with. I will add to this if I can think of more)

In your own space, create your own challenge.

I am not totally sure on this one. I am not one for designing challenges but I do remember when people used to do these drabble challenges or write drabbles from prompts all over the place. I really loved reading those - nice short 100 word works. So if I could do a challenge - I think it would be a Daily Drabble Challenge for a month or something like that - and you would do daily prompts and people could write a drabble a day or a double drabbles if they wanted. But I feel like I miss drabbles and would love to see a drabble challenge. So that is mine. The Daily Drabble Challenge. You could do it at any time of year too - so that is what is kind of cool about it. The key thing is that people are writing drabbles based on prompts.

Tada. I have to say I was stumped when I saw today's post but I rather like what I came up with. Surprised myself.

Terms -
drabble - 100 word story
double drabble - 200 word story

In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you didn't create.

This will be fun. Total appreciation for fanworks.

So first up is a fic that is not even finished yet and I feel like I have been reading it for years. My co-fandom author [personal profile] keiliss is the writer of Pink Flamingo and it is just a really good mystery story in the Tolkien fandom. This is still being written - it is not finished yet. I hope she never finishes. I love this story.

Here is the link to it on AO3 -
https://archiveofourown.org/works/6011812/chapters/13800058

Some art work. I love the artists of the LOTR and Silmarillion fandom. Jenny Dolfen is one of my favorites. Here is a recent one -

https://goldseven.wordpress.com/2020/02/10/the-death-of-feanor/

So I will also link to the first fanfic that I read - my good friend [profile] aglarien1 - hers are the first stories I remember reading in the fandom and I still love her writing. She can really tell a tale. This is one of my favorites - she does great with the hurt/comfort.

Snowbound
https://archiveofourown.org/works/4329723/chapters/9818583

Anyways. No problem doing this. I am loving the prompts.

In your own space, promote a canon/talk about a part of canon that you love.

I have to say my favorite canon story is from the Silmarillion and it is when Fingolfin goes off and fights Morgoth in single combat. He dies in the attempt but he manages to stab Morgoth's foot seven times and wounds him and Morgoth never fights again after that. It is brave, it is folly and it is the first fan fic I ever wrote - the madness of that - which I think it was. I think Fingolfin had literally lost his mind with grief and anger. And it was so utterly sad too. So much of the Silmarillion is sad.

Anyway - that is mine.

In your own space, create some goals.

EDIT!
No zoom meetings but I am super busy today so I will quickly do this. Like very fast. Here are some goals - general ones and some fandom ones.

*Fandom*
-write daily - either blog, journal or fiction - exercise that writing muscle
-participate more in fandom - get more involved
-participate in more challenges - that seems to be the way I get my writing done - under that pressure
-finish that WIP that I have going, yes, that one
-read more fandom stuff - stories and blog posts - that is part of being more involved

*General*
-be more active - get off the couch and exercise a few times a week.
-stick to my monthly budget - less impulse purchasing - sabotage
-drink more water on a daily basis - less soda, more water
-keep going my eating program - stick to it

That is about it for me - nothing earth shattering. I think these are all attainable. I have been doing the daily writing thing so am implementing that already. I would really like to get these going. I am going to tag this entry so I can get back to it.

I like this prompt.

In your own space, tell us who, from one of your fandoms, would you most want to have dinner with (or tea, or a random afternoon visit), And why? This could be a creator, an actor, a costumer, a set designer, a director, a character, a composer, anybody! What would you talk about? What are you dying to know?

This is really tough but I think I am going to go with the first entity that popped into my mind and that was Gandalf the Grey from Lord of the Rings otherwise known as Mithrandir. I have always thought he was a really cool character and in our dinner party, I would want to have a very hobbit-like feast. Tons of food and a cozy place to sit in and a stoop to sit on so we could watch the sunset and Gandalf could blow his really cool smoke rings from his pipe. I imagine long interesting conversations about his adventures in the world and wanderings and much merriment. He appears in the form of Ian McLellan in the movie-verse, of course, because that is the image I have of him now. I think that just works for Gandalf and was just such a good portrayal of him. So it would be a nice long dinner and a smoke after. I would ask him about all of his adventures and have him tell me his stories. He is just such a fascinating person. So that is what I think for this one.

Peter Jackson was a close one on this too - just would love to talk to him about the LOTR films and all that - but Gandalf was first for me.

In your own space (or their own space) interact with someone new. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. No need to leave a link for this one, but if you’d like to invite others to join the conversation, please do leave one.

Well I did this - I left a comment on someone's journal and had a person come onto my journal and leave a comment yesterday so this is done. I will leave a few more comments but I am finding this challenging as a lot of people have closed journals and restricted access. This is not that easy to do as one might thing - lots of trouble with this due to closed journals. I consider it done because I have reached out and had that new interaction yesterday. But had some trouble. I will keep up with this as I think I need to go past my boundary on this. Anyhoo. working on it.

Hello

Jan. 2nd, 2021 06:57 pm
phyncke: I made this (Obamanos)
I have been waiting all day for a snowflake challenge and come to find out it is only on the odd days of the month - not the even days. There is no challenge today. So I am waiting for nothing. Glad I figured that out since I waited all day for it. LOL. I am new to it so newbie mistake.

I had a great day - it rained most of the day so I did not get my walk in. I will go tomorrow. I did have a chat on the phone with my oldest friend, M** and that was good. We usually chat and walk together but the weather was bad on both coasts today so we just chatted. I am really enjoying our Saturday appointment and hope we keep it up. We have been friends since we were six years old so that is coming up on 50 years. Wow. Long time.

So after that - I went out plant shopping with my friend J***. We went to nurseries and plant shops in the East Bay here and I got some good stuff. I got some tiny plants that I am excited to see grow into bigger plants and I got a variegated pepperonia which was not expensive and will be easy to
grow. I am all into plants during the pandemic. I really love succulents so I have a few of those and I have other plants around with varying degrees of success. My mom is really good with plants but I need to work at it. I have to research the care and watch youtube videos on things. I am always learning. I usually have to look up the soil things for plants - I don't know much about that. I feel that the soil you pot a plant in is very important to it's growth. So I usually look that up online. Anyways. - Learning. I want to learn how to propagate some of my plants - so will figure that out.

What else - I went a little crazy on Etsy buying stickers for my bullet journal. There are so many cute things there - so many adorable stickers that I just had to have. I bought a lot - eyeglasses - sunshine - florals - and the like. I will use them to decorate my entries. I looked on amazon and did not like the stickers there - the ones on Etsy are more unique and interesting. So I got them there.

My stimulus payment hit my account - they sure got that out fast. That is about all I have to say about it. It helps and I hope it helps the people who need it. The government is also doing supplemental unemployment too - so that is also something. They cut the amount from $600 a week to $300 a week but at least they are doing something. I think this will all be revisited once Biden takes office. I do hope so. The fact that the United States is not supporting its citizens is pretty clear.

Anyhoo. That is all I have - another day - no writing done - I am watching Iron Chef tonight. I love watching stressed people cook under pressure.

Hope you are well there. Enjoy the new year and let's break it in slowly.

In your own space, introduce yourself! Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I will do a short answer to this one - I am phyncke here and in the fandom - I use this name on the blogs and as my writing name. I came at this name as a phonetic spelling of my real name. I write in the Tolkien/Silmarillion fandom and have dabbled in the Terminator fandom a little bit. I mainly do the one fandom. I have never really branched out. I also used to do LJ graphics and have somewhat given that up - I used to do custom graphics on request. No time for that anymore and I cannot access my graphics anymore since photobucket is so messed up and all my stuff is on an old computer.

In my day job, I am an event planner and I do a lot of organizing and events - I work for a major university. I love working in education. I love how smart everyone is and I do love the mission. I feel that education is important.

Other things about me - I usually have two or three books going at the same time - avid reader. I don't write much anymore but wish I was writing more. I usually do two challenges a year and produce two stories a year. So I would say I have a toe in the fandom.

That is about it for me.
