Don’t Call Me Cousin

“Cousin, come over here! Join us as we…”

As we what, Aegnor wondered. Plan mayhem? Well, he liked a bit of chaotic fun, enough for some and more than enough for many.

This cousin thing. It really depended on who was calling him “cousin.” Now when it was Aredhel, very high and mighty with her superior tone, he tended to react with all the force of his character and send her off skirts a-whirl to her father. Shortly thereafter some consequence was usually laid down by Fingolfin, and Aegnor would barely withstand the impact of that lightning storm.

“Cousin…” A firm hand on his shoulder roused him from his musings. “Did you not hear me just then?

“I did not know you spoke to me. There are many cousins about and others can claim that kinship with you.” He waved a hand towards Fingon as an example. “And, they all call me cousin so it is nothing special, and as we are more distantly related…”

Glorfindel nodded as understanding formed at the source of discomfit. He could see the frown on Aegnor’s face.

“You would prefer it if I used your name in address… Aikanáro.” He softly rolled the last syllable to accent it.

“That would do, yes.” A small smile formed on Aegnor’s lips.

“Well then, I will.” Glorfindel pulled his cousin behind the nearest tree, kissing him soundly to remove all trace of unhappiness from his countenance.
