There is new stuff on the We Love Guys blog, huzzah! This makes me happy for all sorts of reasons. Mostly because I have something to post on Bunday. Here is a lovely picture for this week. Yep.

*Not Safe for Work*

Todd Sanfield... )

Hope you enjoy that. I did.

In other news. I have been enjoying the time off from work. Had a super time at the Claremont Hotel...got a glimpse into how the rich folks live and have to say I really like it and would do that again. We got more passes to the club so I think I will do that again next month. It was really nice to hang out there and enjoy the facilities. The massage was top notch and my shoulder feels much better. I do have to say that my place for massage is really good too and costs about 1/3 the price of the Claremont but they do have the amenities there...beautiful whirlpools and saunas etc. Really great. So yep, I will go another time in December during my holiday break. Yayus.

I loved the movie Unstoppable and won't give anything away but to say that Denzel Washington and Christopher Pine were believable in their working class roles. I found them very true to the RR guys. That totally worked for me. My grandpa was a RR conductor so I just loved that. The movie was exciting all throughout it and well worth seeing. This is based on a true story and I am going to look that up...

Anyways. I hope you all are having a good weekend and enjoying the November weather. We are having close to 70 degrees here so go figure. I am going to do errands and do a power walk later.

Cheers!

Not much new stuff at my usual sources so I am posting in with another shot from a previously shown photo shoot. I like this guy. Anyways. Happy Bunday!

The Scott Pilgrim vs the World movie totally delivered on the gamer-to-life action that it promised. It really was rock-em/sock-em fun from start to finish. I highly recommend this if you want a fantastical fun film. Yayus. It is on my list to see again as there is so much happening, I would like to see it again to catch all the action and detail. Great effects and just really good humour. Fun!

Today is up in the air. I could go to Farmer's Market. I feel laundry in my future. Or I could laze around. Not sure, folks. Not sure.

Anyhoo. That is it for me. Cheers to you and hope you have enjoyed the weekend. Back to work tomorrow. *sob*

As far as sequels go, it was a really good sequel. Very interesting elements come into play that make it different from the first one and add to the story. Mickey Rourke is an amazing villain and very interesting to watch as an actor. I thought he was great here and this makes me want to rent his movie the Wrestler and see how that was. Just really interesting. I love this franchise, Marvel series and I am a huge Robert Downey Jr. fan. I think he has been through so much and come so far. He has fun here and Tony Stark is a very irreverent character. You can tell her is really enjoying himself in this role.

Annoyances are--Pepper Pots (gah). I found her really whiny here and well annoying. I liked the new girlie played by whatshername. She kicked it.

All in all, a really fun, action packed romp with lots of cool techno things going on.

If you like comic book action movies then go see this, it won't disappoint.

Cheers.

This one makes you want to rip that towel right off but it is a subtle photo and he is beautiful. So I give you this one this week. Petr...Petr...he so pretty.

The guy is here... )

So right now I am watching Winged Migration on the television. If you have not seen this, you really should. It is a very simple movie about bird migration and just stunningly beautiful footage of birds in flight and animals. I love this movie and I find it very peaceful to watch. I really recommend this one. It tracks the birds on annual migration. I remember when I saw this at first feeling that it was such a powerful movie. And it really is.

Today will be laundry and farmer's market. Just a few things there. I am trying to buy so that I don't throw things out. That is my modus now. Not overbuying.

Cheers and hope you all enjoy your day. Don't forget to change your clocks here in the USA.

I saw Alice in Wonderland in an IMAX theater and found that it was well worth the extra money that it cost for that experience. It was so there and visually just a feast for the senses. It felt like you were IN Wonderland. From the fall down the rabbit whole to the end...just a colorful, magical wonderful place. Kudos to all actors in this film. No weak performances at all. I think they were all brilliant...

Loved.

A pic of me in the goofy glasses... )

That was taken in line at the theater. Heh.

Here is the text from my favorite poem from Alice in Wonderland...which features prominently here...

The Jabberwocky
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! and through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

I am so glad the weekend is here, even though I had a really great week at work. A terrific event which I think elevated the level of my career somewhat. My name was mentioned in the Chancellor's circle...just a great thing all around. The best thing about it was that the event I was planning and executing was a student centered event and I could tell that it worked from that standpoint. This was most important to me. They felt taken care of, had a good time and really enjoyed themselves. And THAT is what it was all about. I forgot to take pictures but I think someone got a few of the location before it was filled with students. We had an unprecendented turnout (about 120 more than we expected) but that was handled well by our caterer and location manager. Just great.

I also got approved to go to Los Angeles for our next alumni event and this will be the first time I will travel for work at the Uni. This also steps up my game. I think I am due my reclass now. Yays.

I found myself really exhausted after all this and am still a bit tired. But not too tired to go see Alice in Wonderland today. I got advance tickets on the web for me and my friend R*** and we are making a day of it at the B*** Street Mall in ****ville. Yays. I am all over it. I am really looking forward to this and this is my one entertainment thing this month so I really hope it lives up to the pre-release hype. I have my popcorn and snacks and am ready to go!

I have to learn not to watch Animal Planet. I lost it watching the Animal Cops thing and this story about this neglected horsy. It always turns out ok but it was just so sad. I tell you, sobbing here. Horses are such beautiful animals. Meep. I just don't get people abusing animals. I never will.

I hope you all are well and having a good weekend. Cheers!

Here is this week's Bunday pic from Dylan Rosser's selection, a nice BW shot of the posterior. I always have fun looking for these. The men are easy on the eyes. :)

*Not safe for work!*

This way for the man... )

Today is Farmer's Market day and I am going to work on not over buying there. I want things that will last or that I will definitely eat in the time before I go again. Working on that.

I saw Avatar again last night, this time in 3D. Weird as the glasses were, I have to saw that this enhanced the experience, adding a depth of vision that the regular movie lacked. It was just much better. So if you are deciding to see this one way or another...go with the 3D version. I have coupons for the movie so it was cheaper too. I paid the regular price rather than the higher price. Not bad.

Lunch was something worth mentioning. We went to the Elephant Bar and had the mahi mahi fish and chips. They have these sweet potato fries that are just delicious. And the meal came with terrific cole slaw and a dipping sauce for the fish. Just nice. I highly recommend this meal.

We had time before the movie and went to the bookstore. I did not buy anything but read a bunch of magazines in the cafe. :P

That's all I got. I want to clarify here that all opinions are welcome on my journal.

Cheers.

Diving into it... )

In other news...
Yesterday I spent the day with my work chums, D*** and R***. We went to see This Is It, the release of Michael Jackson's rehearsal segments from his last tour. I have to say it was a really interesting glimpse into his profession ethic and made his death all the more tragic for me. It showed how much we have lost there. He was a consummate professional with a real vision and message to send the world there. He was re-envisioning his work in some ways. I was also really glad for the dancers, musicians and vocalists hired to work with him that this was released. Their performances are seen here and they were outstanding. The music here is great and Michael Jackson is wonderful even not performing at full concert level. So if you like him at all, you should see this movie.

After that we went to the Elephant Bar which I had never been too. It was a nice change from our usual and I really enjoyed the food there.

Today is cleaning and chores day. I have laundry in my future and will be going to the Farmer's Market before that. Stuff to do. Hope everyone had a good, safe holiday.

Cheers.

My Harry Potter tickets for tomorrow night.

Shazam.
phyncke: (Wolverine - me)
I saw the Wolverine movie today. Hugh Jackman and his bulging biceps. The dude is built. I will not give anything away here but just to all LOTR enthusiasts...there is a little treat for us in there. Let me know if you see that reference to Tolkien in the film. I got a little thrill at that. Personally, I love blockbuster movies. We went to them together as a family when I was a kid and I really enjoy seeing them now. I recommend ignoring the reviews and just going to enjoy the eye candy and the back story on this one.

In other news...the check engine light came on in my car and that is always stressful but my friends and I figured out that my car also does not have a check oil light. So that one indicator is it. I did check the oil and that is low so I think that is what the indicator is. I am due for an oil change, so I will go get one tomorrow and see if that solves the problem. I really would like to get ahead this month so I hope that I don't need expensive repairs on the beast.

That is about all I have to report. Tomorrow is Bunday. I will try and have a treat in store. I am not sure what I am doing about that dreamwidth thing. I am interested in it and in checking it out but I am certainly not going to pay for that. If anyone has a code for that, I would appreciate that.

I hope you are enjoying the weekend! Cheers!

It has been a while since I posted. I will report on today's happening and save my work update for later. I went to see State of Play with Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck. It was a classic political media thriller. Twisty turny plot thing with a military angle. It did keep me interested all the way through. Interesting things to say about the media and blogs too.

Coming tomorrow: Bunday post
Coming soon: a real update

A really nice sample from We Love Guys who got this from Fantastics Magazine. The universe aligns to give us this shot. Two of my faves. Woo.

This guy's name is Tegan. I found that interesting. *pause*

Tegan's tush... )

What is going on in my world...

I hate losing an hour of sleep. This changing the clocks thing. I know, I know. More light but it really hurts to lose that hour of sleep. *whines* I did sleep later than usual to make up for it. So that is good.

Yesterday's movie turned into a really great experience. We switched up and decided instead of seeing Coraline, to see The Watchmen. Oh la la. It was long but it did not feel long. I was riveted the whole way through. It was goth, dark and really great. I had not read the graphic novel but I really loved these characters and their anti-hero thing going on. I give this one an unequivocal GREAT in the phyncke review scheme. See it. I feel some icons coming on. :)

I should do a work update but I don't feel like it. I am working hard, I will just say that. No time to mess around. I will do a work update soon. The major news on my reclass is that I am working on my job descrip and getting that done to see what level I will be at. I started it and will work on that some here. My sister in law is really good with power language so I will have her take a look at it too. She can jazz it up. Yayus. Want to slam dunk on this one.

On the car...I think I can get to the DMV on Thurs to get new tags. *mutters obscenities* He he he. That will be fixed soon.

I have to replace my external hard drive so I have been dealing with some data issues. It was damaged by the Dish TV installer when he came in here. He knocked it off the table and it became un-readable in Windows. I can salvage my info in Knoppix and will get a new one paid for by the installer company so that is the upshot good news. *nod* I am happy that I can save my image collection. Would not want to lose that.

Uhhh. So I guess that is an update of sorts. Good and not so good.

Cheers and happy Sunday. I contemplate a meal at iHOP. Hmm. Or make pancakes here? Hmm.

I love the movie that is on TV tonight. I just got in, turned the TV on and The Great Escape is on. I remember this one from when I was little. We watched this faithfully every year--about WWII prisoner's of war breaking out of a German POW camp. They dig a tunnel and out they go.

Charles Bronson
Steve McQueen
James Garner

Oh la la. The dudes. What a movie.

Behind the cut for the movie poster... )

In other news...I went our for a while with J*** today. We did some shopping to the craft store and to clothing store and then to the Burger Meister for a really good burger. Nice time.

Next up: Bunday

I went to see the movie Pineapple Express today and woopety doo it sure was funny. If you are in the mood for a really silly movie about drug dealers, stoners and warped humor...go see this one. It was really a good laugh and the laughs were all the way through it. Kind of a contemporary dazed and confused with a crime plot. If that makes any sense to you.

Just what I was in the mood for. Went for burgers, got some new music though I did find out one of my fave craft stores is closing. Wah.

Tomorrow I go to the farmer's market in search of fresh produce to improve my eating. I have to clean out the fridge tomorrow, erm today.

One find today was this hilarious book called "Gay Haiku". It is full of these hilariously comic haiku's. I think I am going to reinstate the Friday Fraiku just so I can post some of these. Lots of slashy writers on my flist so these will be funny.

That is all I have here and I am off to sleep. Tomorrow is Bunday and I think someone had a request. I need to find a certain kind of piccie. Hmmm. Research! :P

Good night all and my thoughts are with those in hurricane alley. Be well there and one of the only good things about hurricanes is that they eventually pass. Augh. Having lived on the east coast I have been through a few of those myself.

Sometimes you need to spend a day doing just what you want. I had the day off from work on a planned personal day. I did not call in sick, I had requested the day off for R&R.

So I get up 3 hours later than my usual ungodly 5:00 am wake up time. I tell you, that feels really late to me and it felt really decadent. Then I meander to the kitchen and make myself a latte which I proceed to drink slowly for a while. After that I get to have ANOTHER cup of coffee which is like totally great. Just love that.

It occurs to me as I am playing around online that I can go see a movie and so I check what is playing and lo and behold...what do I have here?

THIS is opening today, like everywhere... )

Hot diggety dawg. I am there. I am going. It is at my fave mall and I have a gift cert from Christmas to spend. Woo hoo. I am financially covered.

If you like the Marvel comics thing, you gotta see this. If you don't and you like Robert Downey Junior, go see this. If none of that appeals but you are a Gwyneth Paltrow fan...yeah, you too. It is good for all those reasons. No spoilers here. But it really held together. We even have a surprising arch villain here. So yeah, that is good too.

Go
see
this.

My work here is done.
Shameless plug for a commercial film but I tell you. It rocked.

PS: There was a preview for the Batman movie. That looks good too. Oh yeah.
phyncke: (300 Shields by jeeeerk)
So it was a full weekend of activities.

Saturday. Oh la la. I saw the movie 300 with some friends from work---D**** and R****. We could not decide what part of the male anatomy to admire most...the muscular thigh area or the torso area or the lovely stomach area. Well I say...ALL OF IT.

Now let's get to the story here. This was the enactment of Sparta's battle against Persia and the ruler Xerxes who thought himself a god. The Spartan king Leonides went against the dictates of the Oracles and the powers and took 300 warriors to meet a force of 10's of thousands of in the north of Greece. They were far outnumbered but picked their meeting point very well...a ravine that was easily defensable and that would render the difference in their number meaningless. That just gives you an idea of what the movie plot was.

Well the battle scenes were just...poetry in motion. I have to say. I need to do some research but based on what they show in this movie. Sparta was an entirely war-based society and these warriors were the equivalent of what we would call "Special Forces" today. The elite of the elite. Kowabanga. No retreat, no surrender.

CHA. I needs some icons.

Sunday. I spent the day doing stuff at the house. Went to the laundry mat and then my long awaited Michael McKean evening. He was very good. He did folk songs and selection and readings. Was very funny. He is married to Annette O'Toole so she performed with him. It was a wonderful performance. He was in Spinal Tap, a few Christopher Guest films and was Lenny in Laverne and Shirley. He definitely had some funny bits. What was really nice is that he did a question and answer session at the end and people got to ask him questions. Not many people do that.

I saw The Holiday tonight with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. Too long. Mildly entertaining but I would have shagged Jude Law the first night too. *nod nod*
