I am doing this Active for Life thing at work where we log our activity minutes and keep track of things for a few weeks. They just sent this interesting info on drinking water so I thought I would share this with the flist. I never drink enough water each day but am going to try...on a personal note, when I stopped drinking Pepsi, I lost 20 pounds - no joke!

Begin paste info....

Awareness of what and how much you eat is important when managing your weight. However, when it comes to drinks and fluids, many people don't realize the number of calories they're drinking. If you're one of those people who drink their calories in the form of smoothies, juices, sodas (diet or not), coffee, tea, and their blended variations , you might want to re-think your drink and consider how liquid calories affect you.

More information this way...cut for cell phone users. )

They are doing this new campaign at the Uni to promote the drinking of tap water. Now if you are in an area where there is good tap water, I recommend jumping on the band wagon here for the following reasons. Factoids lifted from the Health Services web site:

- Health experts recommend we limit ourselves to 10 teaspoons of added sugar per day. One 12-ounce can of regular soda has — drumroll — 10 teaspoons of sugar. Leaving no room for that energy drink or medium mocha.
- Bottled water, like gasoline, is about a thousand times more expensive than tap water. Want to save money?

Here in Berkeley we have great tap water and drinking it and using reusable containers saves on packaging and all that, so if you can where you are, go for it. I keep a big cup here at my desk and use the tap water here.

I know not everyone can do this where they live so this is just a suggestion.

phyncke: (Wonderful Christmas Time)
So Christmas is over but I am leaving my tree up for a while. I worked so hard on it I really want to enjoy it. At least until New Year's.

I had a wonderful lazy Christmas with my friends in the hills. Their kid made out like a bandit so that was cool and I got a few, very thoughtful gifts. These very funky pillow cases that are handmade by J**** and very bright! Green and orange. I LOVE them. I see a whole new scheme for my bedroom now. I want a sky blue comforter. Must have.

This morning I woke up to find that I had no running water AGAIN. O.o It is not our house this time, it is the water main in the street that is leaking. They had to shut the whole block down. My neighbor was nice enough to go get me some bottled water and I had two jugs left over from last time so I am set. What a pain though. This is getting old.

I would like to thank everyone who sent me gifts and cards...I am not organized as of yet and will do a more specific post later. But it really made my holiday this year. Thank you all so very much. *huggles all of youse*

Today I am going out to hit the shops. J**** and I have it all mapped out. A strategy for the after Christmas sales. Huzzah. This is when I start for next year! He he he.

*big hug to friendslist*
phyncke: (Menorah Textless Animated)
It has been the night from hell here in Berkeley. Water cut off, long story. I have to get up at 4am to call the water company tomorrow. Nightmare, bloody nightmare. I did manage to light my candles tonight. My little oasis in the madness.

It is night 5, 5 candles on the bottom and the one center candle. I was going to post about the dreidel game but will have to do that tomorrow. I promise I will. *nod nod* Just could not do it tonight.

Here is my menorah tonight. Looks perty.
