Happy Passover one and all. Tonight is the first sedar and Jews all over the world will commemorate freedom and liberation in a dinner ceremony. It is a beautiful ritual and retelling of the Passover story. In pop culture it has been memorialized in the movie, The Ten Commandments.

Here is some wiki-information:

Passover (Hebrew, Yiddish: פֶּסַח Pesach, Tiberian: [pɛsaħ] ( listen), Modern Hebrew: /ˈpesaχ/ Pesah, Pesakh, Yiddish: Peysekh, Paysakh, Paysokh) is a Jewish holiday and festival. It commemorates the story of the Exodus, in which the ancient Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt. Passover begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan in the Jewish calendar, which is in spring in the Northern Hemisphere, and is celebrated for seven or eight days. It is one of the most widely observed Jewish holidays.

This is a very important Jewish holiday and just sharing this with you. I am too tired to go anywhere as I worked my guts out but I celebrate it in my own way.

Cheers to you and lashana tova.

He is not made of chocolate but that would be cool. Here is our Easter bunday post for today. I hope that you will enjoy this one and that you are enjoying the holiday.

I was planning on getting some things done but then I realized that not much of anything will be open today for the holiday. I think most things are closed. I will adjust the plan and cook myself a nice breakfast here and go for a walk. I think a friend of mine from work will be calling later too. Just mellow plans.

I missed the observance of Passover this week as I had hurt my back but that is the Jewish holiday around this time. Usually I post things about that and did not have it together to do that this year either. Apologies for that. I will link to my previous post on this as they were informative on that. It is an interesting holiday and rather important. Think the movie 10 Commandments with Charlton Heston and I think you will get the idea. :P Let my people go etc.

Wow that is an old post. Anyways. The information is still accurate.

I hope that everyone is enjoying today's observance.

Tonight is the first night of Passover. This is one of my favorite Jewish holidays and it commemorates the Jews' exodus from Egypt and release from the bonds of slavery. Here is some information on the holiday on Wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passover

The first two nights are observed with a sedar, a ritualized meal where the Hagadah is read and the story is retold. I do love this holiday.

I am not doing anything this year but I have very fond memories of this holiday with my family.

I always do hold these holidays in my heart.

Tonight is the first night of Passover. Good yontiv to all of you.

Last year's factoid is here: http://phyncke.livejournal.com/40211.html

Don't want to repeat myself but there is a lot of information!

And Moses warned the Pharoah about the plagues...he said..."You better let us outta here or...whoa...". Did he listen. Nuh uh.

Something like that. Anyway. God let fly with some nasty ole stuff on the Egyptians. It was highly unpleasant and totally gnarly. After the last and worst one the dude finally like...got with the program.

Bad things happen when you have slaves... )

I apologize for the lateness of this factoid. I was stuck inside writing elves all day.

So I call this everyone's invisible friend. The sedar goes on and on...blah blah blah and then at the end you open the door and leave a glass of wine for the "wayward stranger" as is represented by the prophet Elijah or Eliyahu. Well he is pretty awesome so I am providing loads of information on him for you to read. I always thought it was cool and he has his own song and everything..."Eliyahu Ha Navi"....

Check out my fancy icon. Heeee.

Well if I spelled my name right on here, you would know I am Jewish and tonight is the first night of Pesach or Passover. In keeping with my habit of providing factoids to my friends list, here is some information for you on this very important Jewish holiday. It is one of my favorites.

All about Pesach... )
