Hi all - I am here - I am recovering from knee surgery which is quite a thing to recover from really. I had no idea until it happened what it really is. It is pretty major. I am going to be on crutches for a few more weeks and this is a total drag. I had a torn meniscus that needed to be repaired. I did not do it in any kind of exciting way - it was pretty much routine wear on that. Nothing dramatic. It was pretty hairy at first - the first few days - but now it is minor pain and the inconvenience of not being very mobile. I am getting help from friends and neighbors and going ok. I am pretty much stuck in my apartment - on the top floor of my house here and trying to exist within this space. I have to go out for a follow up appointment this week so will see how I do with the stairs here. I have lots of stairs going up into my apartment. Kind of a drag and I am really not good on the crutches. I am in lousy shape and not very strong. After this is over - I am going to get stronger - I will do that much. This makes me want to get in better physical shape for sure.

So I finished my Slashy Valentine - MSV. I had a panic and wrote the very understanding mods and asked for an extension that I ended up not needing. I snaked this one in under the wire and it is posted on the archive. I kind of like the story. It is warming up to me and since I never get any comments on my stuff - I don't expect much there. I am not a popular writer on AO3 so people don't read my stuff. I am just glad it is done. Whew.

That is about all that is new with me. MSV and surgery. I am watching the Olympics now too. Loving that. I did not watch the ceremonial stuff. That is sort of my personal protest of China's human rights abuses - but I am watching the sporting events. I do like to see them get the medals so I watch the medal awardings - but I did not watch the opening ceremony and will not watch the close. That is all propaganda and stuff. So skipping that. It's all about the sports for me this time. So that is what I am doing on that. I am glad the US did a diplomatic boycott. That says something.

Hope all is well with you there and that you are safe and healthy. It seems like omicron is winding down and maybe things will get back to normal? I just don't know. We have over 900K people dead here. How can we go back to normal? Seems insane to forget that this many people have died.

Anyways. Onward.

I spent my weekend watching the Olympics. I am totally absorbed by it. Go USA!

I have a new layout for my journal. I found this anime image on a web search. Tada.

I don't want to work tomorrow but that but thems the breaks.

I spent the whole weekend watching the Olympics.

Well, it is the first night here without any Olympics on the TV. I miss it! I really do. No results to check on or athletes to watch in competition. Much as I hated the coverage, I really enjoyed watching the events on TV and that sense that the whole world was watching at the same time. A sense of global unity and all that. It was awesome. The next Winter Olympics are in Russia and the next Summer Games are in Rio, I think. I am glad there are an Olympics every two years.

Anyhoo. Thoughts tonight on the the international competition. I really did enjoy the Closing Ceremonies and the selection of music - Fatboy Slim, John Lennon, George Michael, Annie Lennox, David Bowie - really good and that is not all. I have the end to watch on my DVR.

Hope you enjoyed it too.

Hey all ... here is a Sunday quick update. I watched the men's tennis match this morning and found it really heartwarming to see Murray take the gold. He played his guts out against Federer and the crowd was really with him. In general I am not really a fan of professional athletes in Olympic competition. I don't like the men's basketball and the tennis so much. I really think that amateur's should be competing in the Olympics. But this was a good moment. Really nice. I do feel that professional athletes have enough glory in general and I would rather give others a chance to compete for these medals.

In other news...
I am getting my hair done today and going to the salon. I am also going to get my nails done. Woot. Full on beauty treatment. I also bought a new handbag. I found a really nice one and am kind of tired of carrying a back back around. This one looks more professional. It was a little spendy but it is a really good handbag. It has a shoulder strap and all that. I like it a lot.

Work front - I have a program event this week, planning a staff morale party in September and just lots going on. Sending invites for a donor party in September. Things happening.

Cheers to you and hope you are having a good weekend.

Women's Freestyle!
Go, girls go!

I grew up on the slopes of New Hampshire. These gals make it look so easy but man, those moguls are tough. They are awesome just awesome. I love the winter olympics.

Really sad about the bob sled accident that happened and that fatality. That is just terrible. I think they have reconfigured the courses.

Happy weekend and just had a great meal at Chevy's. Can you tell I had a margarita? :P

Update: The US skiers (women's freestyle) took the gold and bronze. Over all the US team has 4 medals (2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze).

For those beautiful male swimmers. Yes, they are beautiful. La. I will stop posting now. Just wanted to say that.

Heh.

Where are the skimpy volleyball outfits for the men on the men's volleyball? I mean cha! The women wear next to nothing. Tighty spandex sports bras and what not and the men are wearing baggy clothing there. I want skin, I want speedos. I want equal treatment here. This is totally sexist.

Yes, I am a perv but I want to see something there.

So we get it with the swimming but I think there should be parity in the sports.

Just saying.

Are you sick of me yet. I thought so. I will continue my pithy commentary.

As I watch a bit of the basketball here on the Olympics, I sit here and think. When did it become about the win or the fame factor over the spirit of amateur competition? The US team is slaughtering the Chinese team and you know...that ain't right here.

We have sent a team of professional athletes over there and essentially rigged the basketball competition. Everyone knows who is going to win that gold medal. It is just a joke to play it out. Just hand it to the US team and cover something else already.

I just recall when I was a kid...the Olympics being more about amateur athletes competing than this BS of professionals going over there and showing their stuff. Don't these guys have enough of the fame game. Why not put up a team of the best collegiate athletes from the US? They would be pretty good. And it would be more sportsmanlike and I bet they would still win the competition but the games would not be like this one...a 30-40 point spread.

This really pisses me off. I hate the whole pro-athlete thing coming in there anyway. The same with the tennis players. Get the amateurs in there. People who have not gone pro or really...don't have that sport in the games. If you cannot find amateurs...then don't have it.

The Olympics was always about non-professionals competing. People who were not payed as competitors.

I know people will disagree and you are welcome to voice your opinion. But really...this is just to me, well wrong.

Game result: 101-70 GAH. USA wins...surprise there!

Security is an issue in Beijing as violence occurs against attendees there. So there is a chink in the facade of the PRC.

Swimmers in all varieties and genders are hot and those body suits that the American women are wearing. Go USA. Those cling pretty well.

Yes, I am shallow.

We got us some metals today. Team USA rocks.

One of the swimmers from the Netherlands was over 40. Awesome.

I made this snaggable icon. Feel free to grab with credit.

Comment if you do take. It is nice to know if people use things. Night all.

So the opening of the Olympics is on and I am always amused by the choice of blazer and clothing for the US team. What will they do this time. He he he. Fashionista moment here.

But that drumming and the light display. Go China. They are going all out. This represents quite an investment and it is their chance to impress the world.

I guess we won't be talking about human rights during this, eh?

More later.
