This photo says it all from today's Daily Californian, the student newspaper. A student faces off against the riot cops last week...they called it vandalism and I imagine that the roaming protest was joined by some local thugs as it got out of control but look at this kid...holy sh*t. This in a photo shows you what is happening here. This is the state of education in California. They are taking it to the streets.

That is the street I walk on every day to get to work. That is my neighborhood. We are preparing for the March 4th protests here. I hope it is peaceful.

This is where I am going tomorrow...

Muir Beach on the California Coast just up Route One, the windy road. This is part of the reason why I love living in California. We have the whole nature thing going on and the shore here is just magnificent. A friend and I are going to do some peaceful walking and then have some tea at the British style in right down the road from here. Yays.

I will be offline most of the day. R&R.

Photo note: From a google search and not by me.

California Gov Schwarzenegger seems to think taking pets to the vet is a luxury. Evidently our Governor feels that one way to raise money for the state in these times is to create a 9% veterinary services tax.

Vet medication and other products are already subject to sales tax, but the Governor wants to add a separate tax on services -- classifying veterinary care a luxury item. In addition to pet owners, this will decimate rescues already struggling to pay vet bills. Having volunteered for Forgotten Felines of Sonoma County for over a year, I have seen personally how important it is to keep costs down for these organizations.

For many pets and strays, it's literally a death sentence. Please take 15 seconds to stop this NOW. You can call the Governor's automated line any time, follow prompts to note your opposition, and it will take less than 15 seconds... You don't even have to talk to anyone.

Simply: 1) Call the Governor's office at 916-445-2841

2) Select your language choice. Press "1" for English.

3) Press "5"

4) Press "1" to select the issue of extending the sales tax to veterinary
services.

5) Press "2" to "OPPOSE" the Veterinary Services Tax proposal.

6) PLEASE COPY AND FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW IN CALIFORNIA.

Governor Schwarzeneger finally says...

If the budget is not on time, the state legislators should not take extra pay when they need to work extra to get it done.

Thank you very much. Finally something that makes sense from him. I think they should give all that overtime pay back that they got from those special budget sessions.

They are asking state employees to take furloughs. Two days off a month. I have heard that my organization is not effected. That is good news so far.

Are state politicians taking a pay cut too? No news on that either. It seems that this will effect the people that can not afford it.

I was just standing in my kitchen, cleaning my menorah when AGAIN. EARTHQUAKE. Shit.

I immediately call my friend J**** and we freak out together on the phone.

Me: Earthquake!
Her: I don't like this!
Me: Earthquake!
Her: I don't like this!
Me: Earthquake!
Her: I don't like this!
Me: Earthquake!
Her: I don't like this!
Me: Earthquake!
Her: I don't like this!

Like that a few times more. FREAK out.

Fuck.

So here in 'sunny' California, it is raining. I looked outside this morning and it was foggy and raining and I just looked outside now and it is foggy and raining. November has hit and the winter is upon us in all its glory. Woo hoo. I trudged to work with my lovely umbrella and got my shoes all wet. Oh yay.

I actually do not mind the rain. We need it and it stops the chances of fires here, so that is good.

Nothing much to report here. Had a busy day. Worked a lot. Have to food shop on the way home.

*sigh*

Edit:

So I saw this on [livejournal.com profile] keiliss's journal and I really like it. She got it from [livejournal.com profile] aglarien1.

Here is the idea:
The idea is to post at least one thing each day that you are thankful for, for the entire month of November. Can you do it? Can you find at least one thing every day you are thankful for? I am sure you can. So try it!!! I bet at the end of the month when you look back at all you are thankful for, it will give you a really good feeling.

So we are at Nov 2 so I will do two for today.

1. I am thankful for the beauty around me. I look out my window sometimes and see the hills and it is just a wonderful thing. They can be clear or they can be shrouded in fog. I live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world and can go hiking within 15 minutes from my house. I can see the Redwoods, the wild Pacific Coast and all sorts of great natural sights.

2. I am thankful to have a source of income and gainful employment. I walk through streets where people are destitute and begging for money. Not everyone has work so I know what might happen if I did not maintain it. I complain about the Uni sometimes but it is full of smart and nice people really. So that is something too.

It does feel good to do this. Pass it on. Posting it with the warm fuzzy as it is just a good feeling.
