I am setting up RP journals and some graphics journals on dreamwidth - in anticipation of possibly moving things over here. What are other people doing about that. I am just curious. This redesign is surely coming, an impending fact of our online lives so I wonder what people are doing.

I don't see much life over here yet but the interface is snappy, the service is better. A kinder, gentler blog-o-sphere. And I have a permanent LJ and even with that, would consider a migration if the community were doing that.

Is it time to make a plan? I am not encouraged by this article (found posted a few places on the flist)

http://www.fastcompany.com/1809674/the-return-of-livejournal

I got mildly peeved at the lack of consideration that we as loyal users are getting. So for lack of that, why stay? Really. I would like to know what the thought is.

I have a dreamwidth account - I'm paid up on LJ until May, I think. If things start to get too weird I would definitely move to DW. I am already considering not renewing my paid LJ come the time.

The whole thing annoys me no end. *Grumbles*

I know. I have to see how it goes. I have the permanent thing but might move over there. I have to see where the community stays and the graphics things are.

I can't really see me switching to DW... though I have an account there. but I really like LJ... and right now I don't feel like getting into another system (though they are pretty close they are still different).
I will just wait and see what's next to come.

I want to see what will happen. I am concerned they will ruin the LJ experience for those of us using it.

right now, the internet is no nice place to be...
everything is kind of falling apart.. and all at once.. *sigh*

I'm not even really sure what LJ wants to change. I'm not against new stuff, but they don't really need to mess up all the old working stuff.

I get the sense that there will be a major redesign of the site coming through soon. The whole front page and all that. I am not sure that I will move as all my comms and graphics are here but I wanted to open the dialogue about it. I am setting up on DW just in case while account creation is open there.

that's what I did as well... just... in case.
lets hope we won't have to actually use it.

Well the only thing that really made me pissed off was the remove of the subject line. But those with paid accounts and personalizes layouts like yours, still have it. So I guessit'll continued this way.

I really liked the way they organized the icons to choose from at the free account. I prefer thatw ay than have to remember all the pictures in my head, even if I add names to it.

I don't have a DW account and I don't see me migrating there also, but time will tell.

I don't mind the new icon thing. That is ok. But the comment thing is horrible and that is the shape of LJ to come so that is too bad.

Will see how it goes.

I have both LJ and DW and for now I like LJ betterso I don't see me switching any time soon. If anything happens to Lj then I would probably switch.

I am setting up on DW so that I can do either. Will see. I am in wait and see mode.

I really like the DW people, it feels like early LJ over there, but it's still way too quiet. People seem to be backing up there mainly, not moving.

As for the LJ changes - the article suggests they aim to develop a few more big coms like ONTD, which I think might be kind of ambitious (and quite honestly I don't see ONTD as 'just another lj com') The development list seems more focused on that than on ordinary users. The only thing that's affected my account lately is the new way of selecting icons, which I know some on my flist hate and have blocked but personally I love it! (such a strange feeling, they finally made a change I like)

I don't mind the new icon selector tool. That is ok but I hate the new comment window so that is something. have to see where this all does. I am just setting up accounts in case they are needed. Best to do that while it is easy to do.

Kind of like the new comment window with the bigger text box. I never use the subject line so it's not a bother, but that's all a matter of personal preference.

I check in on DW every so often, but there are very few posts that aren't cross posted - I think LJ'd have to royally tick people off before there was any kind of migration, which is a pity as I'm fond of DW, but there you go - people like the familiar.

Probably, you are right. I just wanted to raise the issue and see where folks were at with the issue. I am not sure where I am with it so...

I would have to see the redesign in implementation to know.

I have an account at both but I totally dislike DW. I crosspost now from there to here but I don't actually read there since I can't make sense out of where anything is.

I've not seen much change here at LJ... but maybe it's because of paid account I have. I have not mirrored OEAM there either since I seriously don't want to deal with that headache.

I am just raising the point because of the changes that will be implemented soon on LJs end. I think we will not like them at all. I just wanted to raise the issue early and see what people thought. I don't have to move but DW has an interface that is closer to what we like about LJ.

Anyways. Things worth considering.

I haven't read the article, but I can't do it. I can't move. I tried. I still have a DW account and I also had a Greatest Journal account (but I think they bombed). Not feeling Insane Journal either (if they're still around). Been on LJ since 2001, it's just....home. The subject line and the choosing user pics thingies really haven't bothered me. There's been so many changes over the years and I'm still here. *shrugs*

The article is worth reading to see the motivation behind what LJ is doing. They really don't care about us at all. LOL. It is all about profit for them and turning the site into something we might not like. So that is worth a read.

I am not sure what I will do but I am raising the issue. At a certain point they might make the site unworkable for their users. For example -- my RP had to move because of the changes --- and that is migrating to DW. So that might be happening more and more with these changes.

What's an RP? I only know it as Roleplaying.

RP is role play or RPG role playing game is more correct.

That's what I thought. I automatically think of RP as the same as RPG because of the way we used to play. :)

I have a DW account just in case, but I rarely use it. Too many of my favorite communities are LJ only, so I'll be sticking around here for a while...though if a SOPA type bill eventually passes, I'll probably be more inclined to move, since that will shut down a lot of my fave manga/anime/graphics sites.

I am doing that too and you can set up accounts without a code right now. So easy to do.

I am getting sorely tempted to make the switch. I can cope with the crappy changes, what I cannot and will not support is the attitude with which they are handled. There was a recent article, endorsed by LJ on their FB page, where it very clearly states that they are targeting new customers NOT catering to the existing ones. I am not giving money to a company that has no regard for me as a customer. The head of LJ has been rude and patronising one too many times. Dreamwidth is more expensive, but you get what you pay for!

I have to see. I want to be where the community is. I have noticed that people are cross posting from DW and posting both places right now. So there is that.

I think they plan on generating new accounts and not worrying about the old users. That is silly really.
