Chilling here tonight and happy that it is the end of a very busy week.

I took off from work today and the most ambitious thing I did was return some clothes at Nordstrom and then my primary goal for the rest of the day was to take a long, glorious nap. Two hours is a nice long nap. I woke up refreshed and feeling better. So goal achieved in all ways.

Then I made some chicken soup which is my new thing that I can make. Home made soup tastes so much better than the store soups. It is fresher and I like getting to control the seasoning. I also like that the veggies are not totally overcooked to oblivion. I can't even eat store soups anymore - now that I know how easy home made soup is to make. I am ruined for Progresso Soup or Campbells now. I cannot eat those. My mom sent me a Soups and Stews book by Cook's Illustrated and there are lots of good things in there. The other thing I like about making soups is that there are lots of ways to improvise and adapt the recipes.

I am trying to decide what to do with my weekend. I think I am going to Santa Cruz on Sunday but Saturday is open. I do need to get chores done at home and do the dreaded laundry but perhaps I could spare some time to go see the latest Marvel movie - Deadpool. Seems like a good thing to see. I love the Marvel stuff and have heard some good things about this one. Seems different but I will give it a go. I like new characters. I have not read the Deadpool comics so I have no idea what it is about. Also - I like Ryan Reynolds.

So here is a thing. I am really enjoying the Slashy Valentine stories that have been posted in the archive for this year's Slashy Valentine 2016. You can find a listing of all the stories and links to them here -

I hope you will read some of the wonderful stories that have been posted by the very talented writers in the Tolkien fandom.

SO that is all I have for now.

I make my own soup all the time - I agree it is so much better. However, when I am unwell Heinz tomato soup tastes wonderful - I do not enjoy it any other time lol

I like to put a small pack of young frozen peas in a saucepan, then just cover with skimmed or semi-skimmed milk. Heat with a spoonful of fresh or dried tarragon and a few grinds of black pepper, and bring to the boil or just under. Then turn off heat and liquidise. Float a knob of butter on top when you serve it and maybe a dollop of soured cream. It's divine! The whole soup from start to finish takes about five minutes and tastes wonderful.

We have soup a couple of times a week in winter. I make minestrone out of whatever I can find in the fridge and throw in a can of beans or else do stuff like butternut or chicken - one of my girls makes the ultimate chicken noodle soup, it'll cure anything. I haven't bought shop soup in years except maybe mushroom to add to casseroles.

I need to get reading at Slashy Valentine. Have not had time to relax and read all week but I'm looking forward to them, I spotted some great reviews.

Those all sound really good. Agie was telling me about her beef/cabbage soup so I might try that next - beef cabbage with rice in it. I really like having portions of soup in the freezer for when I don't have anything to eat. It really is good.

I am reading some today - the short ones. I have not tackled the long ones yet. There are some good ones there!
