I am here. I got totally absorbed in Game of Thrones and watched three seasons of it over the last few weeks. Totally addictive television. I am thinking about reading the books. Has anyone read those on my flist? Not sure about committing to those. I put the first one on my kindle to see how that goes. Seems like a pretty big commitment and I have limited time to read so there is that.

Work is there and happening. I had a great event last week - awards ceremony. It was rewarding and well attended. All went well. I have a NY event that I am remote planning. Less than thrilling. I just want to get the name tags done and be finished with it. That is about how it goes for that.

Things I should do -
-start exercising
-do a little yoga each day
-meditate

Just putting those on here so I will remember to do some wellness stuff.

I thought I would post in with an entry and have a ramble. I am debating doing the Ardor in August - vascillating and wavering. Teetering on the brink of signing up. Considering. Pain and suffering?

O.o

We're about to start season 3 of GoT. No HBO, so it's all Netflix.

Scotty is reading the books. Huge time commitment. If you think the series is confusing, just wait. 50 bajillion side characters from all over the place and everyone is double-crossing/killing/sleeping with everyone else.

I could not find it on Netflix. Huh. But I do have HBO.

I can keep track on the show but that sounds daunting. Seems to be a huge work. I will try the first one and see how I do.

It's on the dvd part of Netflix. You can't stream it. We have both because Scotty is a spoiled wookie and has to have both. LOL

He has to take breaks between the books because they're so much work. At one point, he had a notepad with a chart just to keep all the characters straight.

That explains it. I only have streaming on netflix. I will not pay for both since I end up with dvds here for weeks.

That is scary that he drew a chart. I will give the first book a try and see how I do.

Yay another person watching GoT!

The books are seriously long, 500+ pages each and there are 5 of them. The last couple are over 1000 pages. If you still have your audible membership I would suggest going the audio book route! I borrowed them as audio books from my library and that was how I "read" them. They are really long but they are really good too! The show is stays fairly close to the books but there are some things that have to be simplified or left out to make the show work. Especially this season there are some things that are farther off than the previous seasons were from the books.

Basically, the show is awesome, the books are more awesome and I think you should read them but they are incredibly long so audiobooks are a good way to go if you are able.

I looked at the audible but it was 33 hours! *dies* I will think on that. I thought I could read it faster than I could listen to it. Hmm. I love audibles. Hmmm!

haha yeah they are long! I think they took me about a week each to completely finish listening. I listened while I was making blinkies and doing stuff but it is definitely a long listen!

It would take me much longer to listen to a 33 hour book. Hmm. I will think about it and see how I do reading it. Hmm!

I bought one Audible and never got through it. I've read them all and they are long and somewhat self-indulgent (longer than need be at times and I'm am not adverse to skimming at points--clothing description and feast menus that go on and on--but some people cannot do that). The books make the TV series much easier to follow. But it goes the other way also--OMG I cannot believe they left out my favorite part or changed a character to the point I can barely recognize them. They aged everyone up a couple to several years for the TV series assuming their audience could not understand that in a quasi-medieval world people assumed responsibility, fought and won wars, at a much, much earlier age. I'd recommend reading the books also. They really enrich the entire experience by a factor of ten or more.

Hi Jane,
Lovely to hear things are going well for you at work. Yoga and meditation sound great ideas.

I didn't think of GOT on Audible. I have points saved so I might go there too. I have the first 2 seasons on DVD, but fell asleep during the last episode (tired not boredom), so have to re-watch.

Season 4 has just started on Sky Atlantic, but we don't have that. I'd better avoid spoilers.

Glad you're enjoying it too.
*hugs* xxx

I am somewhere in book 3 (or 4), Storm of Swords. The tv show is ahead of me, so I will catch up when I can be arsed to read the books again. Other than that, we watched ep 3 of S4 last night so yeah. If you can skim beyond the lots of details and stay focussed on the main leads and their plot.. then it is a nice read. I started to skim the parts when clothing or banners were described in utter detail ;)

LOL sounds very detailed but worth sinking into. I will give them a go.

I read the first two books before seeing the tv series, which spoilt the series for me a bit as I already had faces and voices in my mind. Having said that, the books are a good, solid read, though I wouldn't do them one after the other, it's just too much. And people die all over the place!

Not doing AinA - have personal issues right now plus I'm probably due for a break.

Having started with the TV show, I am really interested in the world of the books. I want to know more than what is there, I guess.

I am considering not doing the AinA this time. Not really in the mood. I could take a break too. I might beta for someone.

GOT....we did the same thing, watched the first 3 seasons and were totally hooked. OMG I love that show. Debating on reading the books took, but haven't decided yet...
