Time for an update...
Apr. 18th, 2008 12:19 pmI have done little else but read and post graphics on livejournal this week so I thought it was time for an update.
Personal:
Today is my favorite kid's birthday so I am doing the birthday celebration tonight. He enters the teen ranks and is turning 13 and I have to wonder where the years go. I was at the hospital when he was born and watched every step of his life go by. This is as close to parenting as I will get so...wow. I feel like this is a milestone for him. I got him his wicked cool present and wrapped it in black wrapping paper. He likes everything black now...even wants to paint his room black which he is NOT allowed to do. I think he will like the wrapping paper. I think we are off to Santa Cruz so he can ride the rides with some friends on the Boardwalk tomorrow. Woot.
Professional:
Part of what I do at my job is handle office management and supply issues for my office here and the GD/Uni. So this week I was trying to order paper towels and tissues and I swear...a certain person nickel and dimed me about ordering them. I had to actually justify why we wanted the tissue. We get upset students here and really do need them. Three rounds of emails later, I win. *shimmy* My boss, who was not protesting the purchase and had approved it, emailed me a side question..."Do we need to have a meeting about the Kneenex?! :P" I guess so!
I got a new software program and it looks like I am getting to use my design skills at work. I now have In Design and this week I got to produce a ceremony program for my awards banquet next week. I have been editing and re-editing it and it is nice to see that the skills I have picked up on my own are coming to play in my professional life. I am going to do some classes to get my skills up on this and see where I go with it. Huzzah.
I have been coordinating a mentoring awards program here at C** and it is finishing up next week with the big to do and the awarding of the prizes and the ceremony. I ran this from start to finish. I am really proud to be a part of something that rewards faculty for advising and mentoring students not just for the work they publish at conferences. In this way, I feel like I am making a difference in education. I got to read all the letters and nominations for this. These professors made a difference in the lives of their grad students. Wow.
So that is about it here. Other things. I am getting a scanner. Uhh. I have blinkies to make. Stuff like that. It is really Spring here in the Bat Area and my apartment is a total mess, like out of control. Got to get that managed. I finished my Triple Dog, updated my idea file with some things and have another story to type out. Things in the hopper as far as fanfic is concerned.
This is me at the moment. Thanks for reading and hope everyone is getting some Spring weather.
*waves* Happy Weekend.
