Just read The Hobbit...
Feb. 11th, 2013 04:18 pmAnd found it a total page turned from start to finish. I was worried that I would not like it or something since the movie was being done and all that. I have to say - this was way better than the movie by far. The original is well, so much better. I don't think it needs all that extra stuff. I find myself thinking why? This has all the drama that you really need. I don't see why this already excellent story needed to be changed. It is so good already. I will reserve my final judgement until the end of the third movie but here are my hopes:
-They leave the Beorn parts in and don't omit those. He is pretty important and pivotal. I hope he does not go the way of Tom Bombadil in LOTR. I am fearful of that really and he was so cool.
-That we don't get overkill on this Azog subplot. I fear that it will overwhelm the story. I really do. He was only a footnote in the tale (a mention). I think they are making that too central and it will ruin the whole thing. PJ does not get to rewrite this really excellent story. It was good the way it was! Does anyone agree with me here?
Anyways. This are just my ramblings on The Hobbit as I just finished it last night. It is so very good and well written. I am going to look at LOTR again too. These are so wonderful and while I love PJ, I am finding his tweaks of the plots annoying again, really annoying.
Anyhoo. Just some thoughts. Bilbo is pretty faithful to the story and works from film to book. I love him in both.
Cheers.
(Just checked - Beorn is on the cast list! Woot!)
