So I got a letter from Joe Biden
Dec. 9th, 2021 08:02 pmI sent an email to the White House about voter suppression and how alarmed I was and this was the response back - with Joe's signature no less. I am sure he did not actually write the letter but it is a really good letter and actually answers the email I sent in. I have never gotten such a great response from the White House before or any public figure. This is the best. Here is what it said -
Dear Ms. Fink,
When I took the oath of office, I pledged to defend America against all threats—both foreign and domestic—and that includes the assault on free and fair elections and the sacred, constitutional right to vote.
The right to vote is the beating heart of American democracy: with it, anything is possible for us; without it, nothing is. Even in the midst of a pandemic, more Americans voted in 2020 than ever before—a powerful reminder of our commitment to democracy. But for too many Americans, especially people of color, this fundamental right has long been under attack. The Supreme Court’s decision in 2013 to gut the Voting Rights Act and continued efforts to roll back voter protections at the local and state levels have made it clear: the right to vote is vulnerable, and we must come together as a Nation to protect it for all Americans.
In the 21st century, we should be making it easier—not harder—for every eligible voter to vote. That is why I signed an executive order to support voting access, directing every federal agency to do what it can to facilitate registration, distribute information, and encourage participation in the electoral process. I will also continue to call on Congress to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which would restore and expand voting protections and fight back against anti-voter action and attempts to undermine the nonpartisan electoral process. I am also committed to protecting our elections from foreign intervention and will not tolerate any attempts to violate our democratic sovereignty.
The battle for the soul for America has many fronts—and the right to vote freely, to vote fairly, and to have that vote counted is the most fundamental. I will keep your letter in mind as my Administration works to strengthen and protect our democracy.
Sincerely,
Joe Biden
