So the work event went very well. Lots of people attended...they descended on the buffet like hungry jackals and left only a few celery sticks by the end. I kid you not. I got a few pieces of cheese, a mini quiche and that was all. I tasted the wine and spent most of the time meeting greeting. My supervisor said the event was a great success so that works. Since it is a student event, they eat like students and devour everything in sight. Alumni events are different and there is more wiggle room with the food.

Anyhoo. All went well and thank you to those who commented on my last post. I read your notes during the day and that made me feel all sorts of awesome. Reading them on the smart phone etc. Really great.

I still have more things to finish up at the end of the week - awards committee meeting, departmental planning meeting etc. But tonight was good and I had the thought while I was there - I am definitely good at what I do and doing the right work. That feels right.

Yays!

Today is the big student event. Of course it is raining but I will be kind of glad when this event is in the bag and over. I have to figure out what to wear and put together an outfit this morning. We have over 300 students and donors attending and woopety. Hope it goes well. Chancellor speaking tonight and all that jazz. Big deal.

A late night of work but will see how it goes. Wish me luck!

Cheers!

PS - layout changed to my favorite one. I like to recycle. Click in to see.

Here is a photo essay of my Seattle trip. I had a really good time and very successful trip to the Pacific Northwest. My event went off well and we had 100 percent show rate to it, well better actually with late RSVPs. That is really good for events like this. People had a good time and the food was super. Yays! Win-win-win. Stayed at the Hotel Andra downtown - a cute boutique chic place and they treated us well. I had a nice room and enjoyed that. VIP treatment. Awesome. I am a little tired from the trip still but it was all worth it.

I spent Thurs with [livejournal.com profile] khylea. We did a hike and had dinner. So I got some personal time in too. Woot.

phyncke: (how's it going?)
Of a very successful event last night. Our numbers were right, the room looked elegant, the food worked. All elements combined to make it a really great event for the campus. There were some things going on at the campus that might have impacted our event but did not, so hurrah. It was exhausting but rewarding. Yays!

Time to bask in the glow. I am ready for the weekend.

Today I got honorable mention in a campus-wide initiative for my research work. I am doing well! Woot.

I went to a really cool lunch time event organized by my co-worker. It was this luncheon on floral arranging for event planners. We got to meet a local florist and do our own arrangement. They taught us the basics of it and so forth. This is what I came up with.

Very fun and it was a totally free event as all the food, locale and flowers were donated by the vendors. Great!

Had a blast too and we took our arrangements back to the office. Really fun!

So, my event today (faculty mentoring awards ceremony) went really well but sometimes the best laid plans can all come down to this. Your caterer has a bottle opener that is not working, you cannot get the drinks opened and jeebus, you really need the one you had at the office. Why didn't you put the good bottle opener in your event kit bag? *rhythmic pounding of head-to-wall* We worked it out as they had someone bring another bottle opener over but I felt bad for the nice chica having the malfunction, there were some panicked moments and it all came down to that -- NEED BOTTLE OPENER!

You can trust that I will never forget that again. EVERS.

No one else knew about that either. This was all happening in the secret back room. No wig out in front of everyone. I am good. You gotta know that. Never let them see you sweat.

Also...cell phones fuck up PA systems. So when you are at an event TURN YOURS OFF. Just saying. Silent ringing cell phones mess with the address system. My lovely sound system. *head desk*

I did notice that more people attended this awards event this year and on a higher level. I got more upper Uni administration, more Deans and in general, more of the important people. I think I would owe that to the personally sent invitations from the Dean that I sent. It is all the little touches. I got a great comment from our head Dean...he told the crowd that I have a "magic wand" that I wave and make things happen. That was a huge compliment. Stunning really. Ain't no magic tho...totally hard work and PLANNING.

All my big events are over. I got my favorite pizza as take out on the way home. A nice big slice of veggie pizza and a diet pepsi. I was so not cooking.

I think I am exhausted. Hard to tell though. I am a little punchy. :P I am looking forward to reading [livejournal.com profile] keiliss's latest chapter. I am totally absorbed by this fic.

So I am off of work today and sit here sipping a nice cup of coffee and relaxing. I have been invited to the graduation from grammar school of my closest friend Julie's child, Nicholas. He is an awesome 12 year old with shocking red hair and freckles, skinny body and knobby knees. So very bright. He is graduating from 5th grade and he has asked that I be there to see him move on to Junior High School. He is all thrilled about it.

I think these things are a big deal and I have known him since he was born so I am SO going to this. Dressing up and everything. Yep yep. We will sit there for a long time, I am sure but it is very worth it. Nick goes on to private school next year but he will have passed out of grammar school. He is going to be a little TEENAGER. Ahhhhh. *runs off screaming*

*points* Look at the new icon I made. Every bay area person has to make a bridge icon. I have another too. But this one came out very well. I had fun with the wierdness of the text on it. Yayness.

Have a good day everyone.
