So I was flicking through the channels here as I do sometimes and I caught about 2 minutes of some rodeo competition. It just struck me how cruel that is to the animals. I mean what part of glorifying violence to captive animals is not? I mean they chase down and wrestle the poor things to the ground, rope them for fun and restrain them in a painful way (in a way that harms their vital genitalia and causes them to buck). At least they don't kill them, like they do for the bull fights but it must harm the animals to be treated like that.

I don't think that is macho at all. I know we have a cowboy culture in some parts of the country but I was physically revolted by it.

Ugh. Could not watch it. I did some googling and PETA is doing some stuff about it. I am not usually a fan of that camp but they are working to get rodeo's shut down and you know, I hope they do it. Why should animals suffer for OUR entertainment?

I am sorry if anyone on my friends list watches rodeo or is into it. Actually, I am not. You can do what you want but I think it is a horrible thing to do to animals. It is one thing to domesticate them and use horses and cows on farms and as a food source*. It is another thing to make sport of them and exert dominance in such a way.
