Good Bye Old Bay Bridge...

Tonight, the last car drove over the old span of the Bay Bridge and they will begin dismantling that structure. They are transitioning to the new span of the Bay Bridge. I guess I am not a fan of the new bridge. I love the elegance of the old bridge and how it looked against the skyline. This new bridge has the dreaded "s" curve and expensive bolts that don't work and all that. Lots of things have gone wrong in the construction of the new Bay Bridge. I usually like change but this is one change I guess I am not that down with. I guess it will be safer and that is good. So saying good bye here in the Bay Area to our old Bay Bridge - you have served us well for all these years and now we have this new span to open. Hurrah!

To any locals - the Bay Bridge will be closed until next Tuesday. Keep that in mind when you travel to SF.

That's a beautiful bridge. It's a shame they are going to tear it down.

I think the old bridge was too expensive to retrofit for earthquake safety. It does make me sad.

This bridge collapsed (a section) in the last major earthquake. I know why they have to replace it. I still really love how the old one looks better but it is a major safety concern.
