So I have been through it with little Boo here. A few days ago she vomited in scary, extreme projectile fashion - a yellow fluid combined with some water. She did this repeatedly with less discharge each time until the last time it was only the size of a quarter. I got advice from a friend of mine who is a vet's assistant to restrict her food and water and see how she was the next day. I thought she might have gotten into the butter dish and was sick because of that and that she might feel better the next day. She was meowy a bit and yeowly which is not her usual thing. I did her fluids that night to hydrate her so she would not dehydrate too much.

Next day I tried to feed her and she refused the food and only drank a little water. She lurked in places here where I could not find her and not in her usual spots. Later, I thought her ears looked jaundiced and her gums a weird color. I had called the vet earlier that day and then called them back. We decided that I should bring her in based on what was happening. I was just about ready to make that call myself too so that was good. I was really glad they were open and it would not be an emergency vet thing. I could go to my regular vet where all her records were.

So my vet is made of awesome. Boo has lost some weight. But the vet thinks it was probably a bout of intense nausea and so she gave her an anti-nausea shot along with B12 to stimulate her appetite. It seems to be working. She is eating now, drinking and doing her thing in the litter box. Last night she had no energy because she had not eaten in a while so I got up during the night to help her. Now she is finding her food and litter on her own. She seems a little wobbly but getting stronger. I did stay home to nurse her a bit. I would have spent my day worrying about her at work.

Boo is 19 years old but I think she has some time left. The vet thought so too. I had them do her kidney tests so will see where she is at with that. So that is background for my comments on facebook. The real deal.

Spare a thought or prayer for the little gato. She sure needs them right now.

Cheers.

I get very nervous when they start hiding away in awkward places. Poor old girl, I'm so glad she's feeling better and will be thinking of her.

It's great the shots have helped. When Jake was ill, my vet said that nausea often means cats don't make it, because they stop eating and refuse to start again. He had a theory they start associating nausea with eating, so eating becomes bad.

What was good about this episode was that she was not eating her food when she got sick. It was not a result of ingesting a portion of her catfood. This was kind of a random stomach event. She has started eating again so that is good.

It would have been better if it had been the butter as it would have cleared out of her system pretty fast. And yes, that is icky.

Indoor cats can live up to 20-25 years. Pretty long there. I am hopeful. She is doing better. Cats have pretty long lives.

Everything I've read says cats typically live 10-12 indoor & outdoor about 3-5 yrs. They say its abnormal to live past 12 but not rare. I now they can but not all due its breed wise too from what ive read & seen. My friends cats have only lived till 12 or so & she took good care of hers. That's why it depends on the breed. Some have conditions you don't know till its too late. I hope my 2 kittens live long lives like ur cat!

Good to hear I'm glad she's doing well.

I would not say abnormal as I have heard many instances of longer life cats, especially indoor ones. I don't know who "they" is. I think a healthy cat can have a nice long life. Boo was like a kitten at the age of 12.

I've heard them too but I've read on average cats usually only live till 10-12 yrs old. Its good when a cat lives longer but its not common. They meaning books that I've read by authors, and people who are experts on cat behavior, cat types, etc. I read a ton of books on cats before I got one. Oh I agree healthy cats can but sometimes illness' that you can't see (not even w/regular visits) can make their lives shorter. Its like some humans live to the age of 80 while others live to over 100. Its just what happens! There are some cats that are predisposed to certain diseases because they are born w/it but its not their fault nor the owners. Its just happens.

Probably - her brother did not last to this age either. He died at age 10. So I think it really depends on the cat. She is using all of her nine lives I guess. I really want her to live a lot longer! I really do! I love Ms Thing! I am not ready for her to go but better get ready for that, you know?

Awe I'm sorry to hear that :( I've never had my own cat die, just the cat that lived outside but I only knew him for a little over a yr but I still miss him. He was the landlord's outdoor cat b/c her dog doesn't like cats. Awe I hope she does too. *hugs* <3
