Movie Review
In 1970, most of The Marshall University football team was killed in a tragic airplane crash. This movie is about the rebuilding of the football program at that college.
I did not plan to watch this movie but I was flicking the channels on my dish and this caught my eye. Intriguing film. I am usually not a fan of sports oriented films but this one is really compelling. Set firmly in the time that I grew up so it is dotted with music that I love and I could relate to it really. But this is a heart wrenching story and it had me in tears at different points through the film.
The backdrop of the tragedy is ever present but Matthew McCaughnehy is excellent as the coach hired to rebuild their team. He plays it with fire and humour. Love him in this and I usually don't like him either. I cannot believe I liked this really. Honestly, so many points against it. I totally got into it.
Really into it, good solid film making. People overcoming obstacles and tragedy to triumph. Great. Weepy me through out and cheering at the end. Ho my gosh! End credits with actual footage of the real team and real coaches. Beautifully orchestrated.
