phynckeSo I am as liberal as they come. I live in Berkeley. Radical capital of the U-S-A. Community action, right on!
I am walking down the avenue, on my way home, at a good clip, don't you know. I am like the only one on the side walk at that moment and guess what happens? I almost get run over by one of those mechanized wheelchairs. I mean *huffs*. If someone says excuse me and the sidewalk is really busy, I will of course make way for them. But there was NO ONE next to me and they plowed right into my heels and did not even say they were sorry or anything. I almost fell right on the ground. I could not have gotten out of their way because I did not know they were there....
Now we have tons of people in wheel chairs in this town. Berkeley is the most accessible community in the country. The sidewalks have ramps on every corner. The buildings are built ADA and all that jazz. It was first to be so and I am damn proud of that but....Jesus, Mary and Joseph, that hurt! I was too surprised to say anything and I would have felt bad to. They sped away really fast too. I wonder how fast those chairs can go, anyway.
I am probably making a mountain out of a mole hill here. But holy toledo, Batman. That smarts.
