phyncke: (Fingolfin Seal)

The Tolkien fandom meme. I have really been enjoying reading the responses to these on the friendslist. Woo. Here is my set. I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] red_lasbelin.

1. How did you get involved in the fandom? What was your first place/haven within the fandom?
2004 sometime. I was dragged into the Elves Unstructured RPG and began RPing. That is an IM only RPG. I played Fingolfin to start (not an easy elf). I still play in that game and now I play Galadriel and Aegnor too. I manage the game also along with another RPG called Dreaming Spires. Writing fan fic came much later. I do love to RP both IM and on thread boards.

2. When did you first read Tolkien's writing?
I have to say I was 12 - 13 years old. My brother had a copy of all the works and so I stole his stuff. Later I loved it so much that I asked for collectors edition of LOTR. Real nice leather bound copy. So pretty.

3. What did you read first?
I read in order. Always sensible. Hobbit...LOTR and then the Sil.
EDIT: Order of publication. I have recently gotten into the companion works. That was a product of starting to write fan fic.

4. When did you first see the movies?
Right when they came out. Woo.

5. How did you come to be involved where you are now in the fandom?
Gradually. I took on management of games as needed and began writing fan fic as stories occured to me. My first Fingolfin story was very important to me to write.

6. What was the first fanfic story you read?
Aglarien1--Enought for Tonight. Many times. MANY times.

7. What was the first fanfic story you wrote? Was it Tolkien centric, or another genre?
Voice on the Wind-the story of the fall of Fingolfin. He is my first and favorite elf.

8. Name 3 of your favorite Tolkien characters. Why Do you like them?
Just 3? O.o
Fingolfin, Aegnor, Galadriel.

9. What are 3 of your least favorite characters? Why?
I am not a fan of the hobbits for writing fan fic.

10. What genres do you like to read the most?
All kinds.

11. What Tolkien eras/cultures/events/ ect. do you feel you have the strongest knowledge in?
First Age.

12. What areas do you feel you can help other authors with?
Freshness of language and phrasing. I find that certain phrases and descrips get repeated and spread through the fandom.

13. What do you feel are your weaknesses as a writer? What would you like to improve on?
Consistency in my language use.

14. What Tolkien era/culture/events/etc. would you like to know more about?
I wish that Tolkien had been more descriptive about Hithlum and Dorthinion. Two of my pet interests. I find them fascinating.

15. What are you currently writing, what's your latest work in progress?
I have a Tirion tale of Finarfin's family that I have needed to finish editing FOREVER. I have to start my Valentine swap.

16. What is your favorite story you wrote? Why?
My tale on the Helcaraxe...for triple dog (Last Star I See). That struck a chord with people for some reason and it pulled out of me when I did not expect it to go that way. It felt like a story that needed to be written.

17. What is your least favorite story you wrote? Why?
Uhhh. Hmmm. My babies. Hmm. (TBA...got to look at my story list).
Walls Of His Heart in the First Age Tales could use a rewrite. Ya.

18. What do you hope to accomplish in your future in the fandom?
I would like to finish my Cousins arc. The tales of all the children of Fingolfin, Finarfin and Feanor in Tirion. I have a First Age arc that will follow one character to the third age and past. I would like to do those two things. Connecting the ages really.

I am not tagging anyone. Oh ya!
Tagging---[livejournal.com profile] aglarien1 and [livejournal.com profile] chaotic_binky if they have not done it. And hmm. [livejournal.com profile] jaiden_s. Ya.
