Here I am...
Aug. 12th, 2008 05:28 pmTyping at you on my laptop without the aid of an external keyboard. Woot. It is all soft and nice and new. I had a new keyboard installed on my laptop today. Ordered it a while ago and my computer dudes at the shop put it on. I had worn out some keys and they were popping off and driving me nuts. It cost about $50.00 for the whole thing installed. Very exciting. I did not mind the external keyboard and it sure is weird typing on this thing here. But woot. My lappy looks brand spanking new here. Yayus.
Other win thing. I had my review today. My big annual thing. The one that counts and goes in my file. Well I think they all go in my file but the Dean actually looks at this one. So I go through the exercise of doing a self eval. It is the form the managers use and I decide to take initiative and just do this, also for myself to see what comes out as I answer the questions and try to do some goal setting. I figure, my boss will see me as a pro if I set out some benchmarks and goals to attain rather than have her do all the work there.
That turned out to be a good idea. Our visions gel and mesh pretty well and she said it was very helpful. Gave her some insight as to how I view myself. Used to be that I dreaded reviews but I really love this process with my boss. She is a total professional and I enjoy meeting with her. We have fun working together. We team well. So yayus.
Co-worker in staff meeting brings up project today in meeting and attempts wig-out for same in this meeting. It is an event and the part of the project in question is the invites to new faculty (going out as email PDF). Her list is a mess and I have been working on it for a while to get it in shape. Research. I have been researching these people on all directories and via telephone.
So her ballyhoo is that this has to get done TODAY. Well where was she when I tried to figure out that deadline from her weeks ago? My email went unanswered and I got no drop date for this. I plan my work and I went along with well NO DEADLINE. My co-worker chimes in..."I think she means today, Jane." To which I reply..."That is not helpful since you are not on this project." which is pretty much a STFU to her.
I explain that...the list is almost there. An email intro needs to be written (her thing) and that it will not go out today. My boss agrees and says Friday is a better day for it. I will have my end ready tomorrow and we will see what **** does with her end. So this is what happens when people try to set you up on a project. Not a major deal but I know that I had done the right thing on this one.
This update is way longer than planned. Huh. Only Toosday.
Question for the list. Should I do Dudesday (Tues) again? Or Mensday (Wed)? The midweek posting of the manliness? Comment if you like that idea.
Cheers.
