I have been meaning to do an update, which is not just a paste or a meme for sometime. I have been so tired at night that I have not been able to get to it. I will try one now. Rest assured Bunday is coming. I have a surprise for you so stay tuned for that in a later post.

This week was arduous and long. I have many projects going on at work. I am managing a few events and I am coordinating a faculty mentorship at work. This makes me very busy but I do enjoy that. I don't like to sit at work and personally web surf though I do check things from time to time. I figure I am getting paid to work professionally and that is what I should do. Anyways, I digress. O.o

On Tuesday we have regular staff meetings and in this meeting we usually discuss our workload and any administrative issue before the staff. We are a close knit group and work well together. These meetings are usually 20 minutes and run well...it is a good check in. Well this week we did the usual, what are you working on thing...and my co-worker, I will call her R, let it be known that she was not going to make one of her deadlines. Now that is ok usually, that is what the meeting is for to trouble shoot things, the issue here was that the deadlines was THAT day and she had given no advance warning. Additionally, she resented the entire project, feeling that it was not her responsibility. I had an inkling that this was the case but did not know she was going to tank it. And tank it she did.

Let me go into a little bit about the project with out being totally specific. Our department is an awarding department. We provide monies to both grad students and departments for educational purposes. This specific project in question was for RECRUITMENT. We were providing travel funds for grad students to come to our Uni and visit the campus to see if they wanted to attend. It was my feeling and a few others that this was a very important project. We said we would let them know on that date and we sure had to come through on that. The notification process was sending about 70 individual emails to the department contacts with their award spelled out and the terms of use for it.

So...this blew up in the meeting. My boss was O.o and then :| and we went back to work. I took a look at my pending projects and figured out that none of them was time sensitive. I could shuffle, reschedule a meeting and get the notifications done. I let my boss know that and she was just pretty darned happy about it. I got it done too. Two-thirds that day and the rest before we opened for business the next day. It was on time. I think I only had one typo out of the 80 emails and one correction. Not bad.

I think this is sort of what you do and I got commendation letters for this but that is not why I did it. R's other work could have been realigned too but she did not see her way clear to that and she did not get the priority. It is not my place to lecture her about that and so I did not. I leave that to other people.

So that is a little bit of what I dealt with this week at work. My awards nominations hit on Monday and I hit the ground running with that next week. It is not going to stop for a while there. So yikes.

In other news...the neck and back are feeling much better. It only flares when I forget to rest and stay on the computer too long. We watched the movie Michael Clayton on DVD last night and I have to say, George Clooney is my new fave actor. He really is good in this and the movie is very interesting. It is about a manic depressive lawyer and the intrigues surrounding him. Tom Wilkinson plays the bipolar attorney and is just amazing. So I recommend this one. There is a scene with horses that is hauntingly beautiful.

So that is it for now. I am off to bake some muffins and get off the computer for a while. Bunday will be posted later in a slightly different way than usual. Cheers!
