I had a lovely dinner with some old friends who used to live in this house tonight. We had a good long gab and I got a very good piece of information that might be useful. The Uni has a housing complex, subsidized for staff and faculty. They provide mortgages to Uni personnel at affordable costs and as long as you work for the University, you can live there. If you leave its employ, you need to sell within 6 months. If you retire at the Uni while living in this housing, it is yours permanently.
Food for thought. I drove by the housing and it is in a good neighborhod. Nicely situated and sort of condo style. I will be looking into this first thing tomorrow. Why ever not look into it? Cannot hurt to do the research. If it is out of my price range then I will find that out.
