73/100 Magic Mike (movie review)
Jun. 30th, 2012 09:42 amMagic Mike (2012)
Summary: (from IMDB and me)
A male stripper teaches a younger performer how to party, pick up women, and make easy money. He yearns for a better life for himself and meets a girl who makes him think about his lifestyle.
I got a lot of enjoyment out of this movie, for all the reasons one can imagine at a movie about male exotic dancers. They show a bit of the shows, interspersed with the story line. But really, this is a story about the guy and how he finally does good. That is really central. Channing Tatum is riveting here both on stage as a male dancer and in the film. I have to give props to Matthew McConaughey as the seedy owner of the club, playing it with just the right amount of schwarm and determination. Lots of eye candy in this and a pretty good story line with ultimate satisfaction. The actual show did remind me of Thunder Down Under and their staging so it was true to what male revues are. Very real and good. I could have used a bit longer on the routines and to see one from start to finish - a whole routine.
So the opening night crowd at the AMC was packed with women out for a good time. It totally reminded me of going out the male revues. Very fun and rowdy good. There were some gay men there out for a good time too. I tell you the movie audience was great.
This is good fun and a well done film. The bottom line is you really like Mike and want the best for him.
IMDB for cast and credits:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1915581/
Overall rating:
Fun movie and there is a story line, for sure.
Recommend:
Hell yeah for the womens!
Warnings:
Not for kids. Inappropriate content and suggestive.
