phyncke: (Blinkie Maker Twinkly Love (fairewench))
So I have been playing at the blinkie thing and entering contests. Not doing very well but having fun at it. I welcome opinions on my entries here.

Here they are.

The first one here is for a last blinkie maker standing contest ([livejournal.com profile] rubyangel_lbms) and I got knocked out in the first round. On this one I tried a new thing which was the dangles and I edited the pixel fencing to extend it a little. I am really pleased with it and don't have to win to be happy with what I do. It is about challenging yourself, not about winning, I think. Please note that on both contests, we are given the pixel to work with and do not get to select it ourselves. Feedback pointed out that the font choice was fuzzy on this one...which was probably true. I used arial (one of them) and it was recommended that I go to a pixel font. More on that below. I will think about that and try to find one that I like. This competed against some very elaborate entries and I admit, it was not the best in there but I do like it.

The other contest I recently entered was an open one at [livejournal.com profile] solaris_designs. I chose to make a scene with the pixel given and combined a few pixels with it and used my boxes to add a ground element to the scene. I shrank the image I was given and tried to make it proportional to the scene I was creating. I really like this one and will do more of it. I love the whole combining pixels thing. I think they are meant to be used this way. You have to match frames and speed and it is fun to create a little story there. In this one it is a lion seeking shade. I added the grass element, the tree and the sun...I think the lion got fuzzy when he shrank but it looked good to me. Really happy with this one. It took a while to build and it does say something.

I do try and play with the font element and choose non-pixel fonts on my blinkies. I think I get graded down for that. I like to push the envelope a little bit. I think it adds a dimension to the graphic and that is a choice I make. I don't like pixel fonts and I think you can use other fonts on blinkies. I should check for cool looking pixel ones and see if there are any ones I like.

So that is what I am working on. It is very fun to push things and create different images. I really don't expect to win but I do have fun and really like what I create.

I would love to know what people think of these. Comments are welcome.
