phyncke: I made this (Obamanos)

I am here watching the news this morning and it is all reports on the mass shooting in Orlando FL. 50 people reported gunned and 53 injured down in a gay nightclub. They are calling it an act of terror and a hate crime. This is the deadliest mass shooting in US history. Of course they are now showing the same footage over and over again and it is getting really repetitive. But this is just horrible - I cannot fathom how this can keep happening in the United States. I don't care about the second amendment - we need gun control. This shooter used an assault weapon. Why should he have been able to get an assault weapon? He should not have. Those weapons should be strictly controlled.

Gah. Gah I say! The US is totally messed up on this and it is our fascination with guns that is the problem. A sensible country would implement stricter controls on these weapons.

It is going to keep happening if we don't do something.

It's so horrible... I've been following the news all day (they of course talked about it here in Italy, too,) and I swear I had a knot in my stomach the whole time. So with you about the need for gun control over there...

What an awful day :(

The whole situation is appalling.

I wonder what the motive is over showing the same footage over and over again.

There should indeed be strict gun control, but it won't happen simply because Trump and others like him, plus the media, play on the fears of mainly white males. Every time there is a terrorist action or anything really that involves the use of a weapon there is less chance of controlling guns simply because people don't feel safe, or the gun itself becomes a sort of penis extension.

I have edited this because I got the story mixed up with something else and replied with something completely nothing to do with what has happened!

There was a list somewhere of how much the NRA has given to lawmakers from each state. A few thousand to upwards of 25 thousand. And every time anyone mentions gun control the fear mongering chorus of "they want to take all the guns away" starts. People fall right in line like the sheep they are. And they think this is what the founding fathers wanted? Idiots.
