Summary: A ship arrives in Valinor and Celebrían meets Elrond again after many years apart…

The bell is ringing on the docks signaling that a ship has been sighted. My heart leaps into my throat. It will still be some distance off but in my gut, I know this is the one. I have that feeling. I fly for my cloak and tie it around my neck and put on my boots for running. He will be there, he will. It has been so long. What will I say to him after all this time? Just go, silly goose. Figure it out when you get there.

I run for the harbor and pass people I know. I wave, they call; they will have to understand that I cannot stop; and well they do.

“A ship has arrived!”

“I know! I know!” I call back, breathless.

Laughter follows my fleet steps. I can see the ocean, aquamarine, waves and surf. I see the white sails in the distance, bringing my love home to me. My feet feel light on the wood of the pier, which is solid against the turbulent tides.

I stand and watch the vessel cut through the water, the sails like wings, lifting it, speeding it up as it draws closer to the coastline of the blessed land. Here I have recovered my soul but will I find my love again? What if, what if he is mine no longer? I grip and release the fabric of my outer garment again and again.

It seems forever until the vessel makes port and is tied down. My mother is there, her golden hair, just like mine, shining in the sun. Mama. She will be happy to know I am whole again. I see a dark haired elf duck under the boom and disappear, and know that he is there. I fight the urge to run back to town. Stay, I must stay.

First off are the little ones, the Halflings, made steady at landfall and awe struck by the sight of the glorious scenery here. For once they are silent by the majesty before them. They pass me in the company of the wizard. I am scared suddenly and wish to remain anonymous, unseen, and so I shroud myself in the hood of my cloak. Perhaps I should have waited and met him later, when he was settled. We could have had tea, been civilized and I could have gotten the family news. This was all too rash.

I see him disembark the ship, tall, proud and elegant, my half-elven lord, my husband. When last I saw him I was so weak, too weak to even kiss him goodbye, a shell of an elf really. I find I am scared to see him for fear of recalling what I was, that those feelings will come back. I shrug that off and as he comes by, I reach for his hand.

“Elrond…”

He stops as I turn my face up into the sun, our eyes meet and the world, the years fall away. The distance fades as though nothing had ever come between us. I could spend the long years ahead in his arms, as I am now, held fast.

The sounds of the bay recede and his deep voice, a balm for my restlessness, tells me how I have been missed these long, lonely years, and his laughter, tickling my ear brings me to tears.

“Don’t cry, darling.”

“I am trying not to. I must be brave.”

“You are brave, so very brave.”

Then I do cry as our hands grip tightly, never to let go again. We begin walking up the path to the city, the sounds of the gulls echoing behind us.
