An imprisoned vampire, Barnabas Collins, is set free and returns to his ancestral home, where his dysfunctional descendants are in need of his protection.
This movie is very campy, very funny and really enjoyable. Johnny Depp really nails this performance as Barnabas Collins unleashed and stepping into 1972. He had been imprisioned centuries earlier and now has to adjust to the world as it is "now" in that time. This sets up some very funny gags and jokes which are delivered very well.
All the secondary performances are well done here - Michelle Pfeiffer with her trippy eye shadow, Helena Bonham Carter and the child roles. It all really works for me and a good solid plot with the witch scorned by Barnabas in the earlier time. Just great.
I laughed through the whole movie and really really enjoyed this. You do not have to have seen the show to get this movie. I think people who saw the show, will really appreciate this though. Go see it and enjoy.
