D+ Street Garden Collective!
Apr. 1st, 2012 05:05 pmToday, we started our garden for real. We met last weekend to plan it out and today we did as follows:
-tilled the soil and took out weeds and grass
-fertilized the soil with our own compost
-went to local nursery and bought plants (lettuce, herbs, chard, spinach, soil, netting and gloves) (we need to get trellises and posts for the netting)
-planted first plants in the soil
-watered them
To get later:
-cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, trellises, poles for netting
-my expenditure - 27.95 but I owe them some funds
It rained quite a bit yesterday so conditions were perfect to start today. The earth turned easily and it was not hard to pull out the weeds and grass. My plants that I am doing are the lettuce and later we are adding cucumbers and tomatoes to the garden. My idea is to grow all the plants I need to make my own salad. Yays. We each got to pick what we wanted to grow and then decided on some things to round our our first crop.
I plan on posting the progress here and on FB. This is my first time gardening. I am working with C and O in our house and we have R (C's hubby who says he is not helping but helps anyways).
( Some pics behind the cut... )
Cheers and it felt good to work outside and get this done. I am SO excited! Yays!
