I think what makes it so emblazoned in our minds for the US citizenry is that his was an attack on our soil. The first such attack in living memory was Pearl Harbor, the blitz by the Japanese during WWII and that was the turning point as far as our involvement in that war. The 9-11 attacks also led to a protracted war effort too. We meet fire with fire...

The thing that stuns is that it was a major metropolitan area in the US. I remember the day clearly and was watching the news before work as I do sometimes. I did not go into work that day and the Bay Area was on high alert for attacks. I picked up my friend's kid from work and we all watched what unfolded in NYC with mounting horror and outrage.

There are other areas in the world, the Middle East comes to mind...where such attacks are daily occurrences...suicide bombings, military actions, guerilla warfare is happening all over the globe. I hope that we can spare a thought for other countries that are not as safe as ours where this is a matter of course. We are so lucky here in the United States that things are not worse for us. If you watch the news, you know what I mean.

So a thought for what we have been through, a thought for other peoples and a thought for my brother who is heading off this week to Kuwait to rejoin the war effort resulting from these events.

We will never forget and remember those who have fallen.
