So today I went out to lunch and the movies with my friend, R**** from work. We headed down to E'ville, CA and managed to find ourselves a parking space and were joined by my friend J**** for the lunch portion of the day. We got our gourmet cupcakes, I had my well hidden Smart Foods popcorn in my very big tote bag and we were good to go. We had a few tense moments as we looked for decent seats and then it turned out that some people were using extra seats for their purses and we scored the BEST vantage point for the show. Right in the middle, back, first section. I loved these seats and no tall person in my way. Just great.

So, I am a fan of Sherlock Holmes and used to read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories when I was younger and I think this movie is a total win. It brings these characters to life in a really great way and I thought I was going to have trouble suspending belief with Robert Downey Jr as Holmes...well GET OUT...he was fantastic. A real Holmes with nervous ticks and realistic behavior. The reason previous Sherlock Holmes portrayals never worked for me was that he was all too perfect and sterile. Well here is a real, clever man with bad habits, clever wit and body odor. I tell you...it works on many levels. It fits the time period and it totally worked for me.

Jude Law as Watson was an inspired choice and you can tell that he was totally having fun with this role. All the secondary characterizations were strong and the villain was heinously villainous and a total dastardly dude.

All thumbs up for the new Sherlock Holmes and they lead right into the next film and I will so be there.
