Sep. 15th, 2009 06:41 amI am so excited...
Sep. 15th, 2009 01:12 pmI am starting an internship program for students from the local high school. I just got it off the ground and I have 4 departments signing up for interns this fall and then two more departments coming in this spring. Yay. We have lift off!
I think this will set up linkages to the community and bring good energy to our Division. Good experience for the kids too and get them thinking about college.
A win all around. I thank aglarien for the cool idea and getting me to think of this.
Woot!

A dose of puppies...
Sep. 15th, 2009 10:24 pmTonight, I was feeling blue and went with my friend J*** to her puppy training class in San ***. This was the 10th class for these young canines and from evidently they are getting really good. They have learned to sit, stay, walk on leash etc. The dogs are soooo adorable and this was just what I needed to pull my perspective out of the melancholy I was in. I mean what can you do when there is a group of puppies trying so hard to behave they are just busting with it? There were labradors, rottweilers, a korgie, a doberman, an english mastiff and J's american mastiff, Violet.

We call Violet a number of things--Ms Violet, Wiley Coyote, the Violator...are a few of the pet names that have developed for her. She is 5 months now and larger than a full grown black lab. She is incredibly cute. She really tried to hold it together and did all the stuff. But at a certain point she'd had ENOUGH and was NOT gonna do anything anyone told her. She balked at commands, pulled on her leash, yanked and barked and just was as ornery as she could be. So much so that the trainer had to take her in hand and try to give ner some "guidance". She chose as her reprimand a squirt bottle of water. Now that is like a reward to Violet as she likes to play in the outside spigot or hose and being blasted in the face brings her great joy. So I think this frustrated the teacher a bit.
Oh Violet. You bad dog.
