I guess in America we have the right to air our views but I have to say I am very disappointed in the opposition to Obama's speech about education and to the students of the USA. In a country where we lag behind the rest of the world in terms of learning and education when we should be leaders, it is about time a President sent this message. I think it is because he does say the tough things, hitting things head on. I think that he has hit a nerve here. That it is about responsibility and personal responsibility. It is about what each student can do and reminds them of their own abilities.

Here is the text of the speech:

I am excerpting some of the key points here:

Every single one of you has something you’re good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That’s the opportunity an education can provide.

And no matter what you want to do with your life – I guarantee that you’ll need an education to do it.

We need every single one of you to develop your talents, skills and intellect so you can help solve our most difficult problems. If you don’t do that – if you quit on school – you’re not just quitting on yourself, you’re quitting on your country.

Where you are right now doesn’t have to determine where you’ll end up. No one’s written your destiny for you. Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

I know you can do it.

That last thing? Some kids don't even hear that at home.

There is more in there and this is a STRONG speech with such a positive message. This speaks directly to the kids and I cannot believe that everyone is not going to sit their kids down to watch this speech. It is so motivation as to be inspiring.

I personally do not know what is wrong with my country. It seems to be take a shot at Obama time but I have more admiration for him than ever before. This shows his insight and integrity and that he truly cares about the future of our country. It is in the education of our population and in the success of our young people. I also am very much for his health care reform and I hope that this goes through as well. I think he has a mind for the greater good and his eyes are totally on the prize.

So sorry for the political message here but I find this important. I have seen one other post on the flist about this and thought it was an important message to carry. I work in education and have been a public school teacher myself.

Go Obama, right on!
