Work and so on and so on...
May. 21st, 2009 12:39 pmI heard LJ was out a little bit ago so I thought I would post just to test the system. Ya.
I am having a great week at work. I fight with the accounting office here at the G** D** and they are trying to off load their data entry to me. I am so not going to let that happen. I suppose I sent a snippy reply to their director, not following my 24 hour wait rule. The delay is for patience and to see if I really want to hit "send". Someone else who was on the CC list for the email let me know that there was nothing disrespectful in my tone and I made good points, so I think I am ok on that. I think my real point was "let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater" and I hope that they get that. It would take a while to go into detail here and it is so not exciting really. Suffice to say, I don't want my work to go in that direction. My co-worker also let me know that I was TOTALLY clear on that point. :P Most of you know that able to express myself.
On the positive side...me and the rest of the Development team did a field trip to San Francisco yesterday to do a site walk through for our event location. We have a big alumni event coming up in September here in our home town and it was so nice to actually be able to see and look at the location as we start to plan. Usually we plan these remotely, based on web pictures and second hand sources. We cannot travel to the places before the actual events, not in our budget to do that. So it is a bit of a gamble really. I do exhaustive research on the locations but nothing can replace actually BEING there. For this event, I will be planning this from start to finish. I am it. This is very exciting to me. Usually I pass off site things since I will not actually be there for the event but I am going to this one. *bounce* I get to see this one lift off.
This means that the summer I thought I was going to have more time, well, will be busy. I am getting more responsibilities than ever. The myth of education is that we have down time. Given the budget crisis, staffing shortages and all that, there is no such thing as down time in higher education. Less of us, do more and so on.
All problems aside, I am jazzed about what I am doing and I do feel a strong sense of the mission in what I do and how it aids students and the institution.
