Things are busy and hectic in my life of late.
Work moves at a frantic pace. I am responsible for a few events this month and I am overseeing a bunch of projects. The funnest thing is that I got to plan the division-wide Halloween Party and it will be a pizza-bash on Halloween day complete with costume contest. Yes, they pay me for this gig. I got to use my design skills and do up the invitation that we used. Usually we use a design person from another office but they let me try my hand at it to good result. I had a very good time with it and it was fun to put these skills to use professionally. I think I actually managed to impress my superiors. I also have a number of development and fundraising projects in the fryer...organizing two events in China (Shanghai and Beijiing) and coordinating numerous donor mailings. The major buzz word at the University here is development so it is a strategic area to work in. I am really glad that I am getting this experience and exposure. It makes me more marketable and may lead to some things down the line. I also have two major conferences for the deans group that I am planning.
I also have been helping a friend of mine work on a grant funded educational program. She is implementing a school garden at her school. I have been assisting with the grant writing for that and I also got to design the flyer for her upcoming open house. Again, I got to use my emerging graphics skills in a real life way. That was totally fun and it came out really well. It will go to local business, politicians and community members. It really is a thrill to get to make something that actually is being used in the real world and to a good purpose. This directly benefits low income children. So I am happy about that.
In other news...I got my Slashy Santa assignment and it is so broad that I could really do whatever I want there. I find that vaguely frightening and my mind has been churning and working on what to do. I am the queen of the odd pairings and oddity...so who knows what will come of it. I know that I want to do something different and I have some ideas floating in my head. I want to avoid the panic so I am starting early.
I am looking forward to the weekend. I have movie plans and I want to catch up on some things. I realized today that I had not done a real update in a while. So this is me folks. I do have other news about my housing situation but I won't wreck this post with that. I will save that for another entry. It deserves its own space.
