I need another cup of coffee so I am putting the kettle on. It is definitely a two cup morning. I have spent the last few hours wrestling with this computer. Could not boot up into Windows for the longest time. Got on in KNOPPIX and then in safe mode. Did a system restore thing back to June 1 and that seemed to solve the problem. I harrassed the help desk at Gateway to see when my new disc is coming with the drivers as I still do not have sound and cannot get their driver from the web site to work. They say this week. I have about had it. I also harrassed them when the computer would not start. One woman jokingly told me not to turn the machine off once I had gotten it to boot correctly. That does not seem a good solution. Fuckers. If this new disc does not solve the problems I am having, I want them to give me a new laptop. That is just it. I have had enuf. ENUF. Do you think I am PMS-ing here?

So I was invited to a geek event yesterday. My friend Michael is a ham radio dude and they were having a gathering at SLAC. The Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. A geeky place if ever there was one. I am trying to be supportive of my pal and his interests so I went with him. They had doughnuts! And hot dogs! We hung around and listened to a presentation on Morse Code by someone who was a real expert. He had all these different devices to show and gave a demo of it. Went right over my head. Yep yep. Then we stood around talking turkey about antennas, radios, frequencies and making contacts around the globe which is what they do. They talk to people all over the world. Pretty cool actually. There were two other women there who are active hams, both very involved with the community and organization and emergency volunteer efforts. If there are ever disasters, like earthquakes, these people form an emergency communications network with their radios. It is quite amazing. They say it was a huge help during Hurricane Katrina and other emergencies.
Anyway....they worked pretty hard at convincing me to get my ham radio license. I would have to pass a test and get a radio. I just nodded. Not sure if that is something I want to take on. I was really going to keep Michael company and I am more an internet person. But...it is interesting really. I honestly do not know. They are very nice people. They do daily "talk nets" and chit chat about silly shit kind of like we do....but voice to voice. Hmmm.
So today. Am stressing about the puter. Sipping loads of strong coffee and thinking about a movie. Boondock Saints of X-men depending on who goes with me. I need a movie today. I feel popcorn in my future and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and a soda that is too big to hold in one hand with loads of ice.
Yeah baby.
Edit: Boondock Saints is no longer in the theater so I saw the X-men movie.
Review: Was good. Rock and roll. Love me that Wolverine even though he needs a new hairdo. I mean really. *sniffs*
Food report:
Went to Asquew and had skewers. Ahi tuna, jasmine rice and grilled asparagus with a special sauce. Mmmm. The tuna was seared to perfection and the rice was delicious. I love asparagus. Oh la la.
At the movie, the fact that I had just eaten a full lunch did not stop me from getting buttered popcorn, chocolate and a large drink. After the large drink I had to rush to the bathroom after the movie so I missed a crucial change in the plot which
khylea just told me about....so suffice to say one should always stay for the credits.
Tomorrow is Monday.....see icon. That is what I want to do when I think about going to work.
