Tonight is Friday and I went out for dinner tonight with my friend J***, the kid who is not really a kid anymore, and his girlfriend. I think I will start calling the kid by his name - N***. For those of you new to the scene or if you have forgotten - I helped raise N*** from when he was a little baby and now he is starting his third year of college at UC Santa Cruz. I cannot believe how the time has gone. Ho-MG. I used to change his little diapers and now he is all big and making his own decisions. It is so cool. J**** likes to say I helped raise N**** and he gets advice from me on a lot of stuff. I guess the closest thing to that is being an Aunt to him but at times I did a lot of parental things too. It takes a village to raise the child. This is the closest I have come to raising a child really so ...It is all pretty cool. We are all like family.

So the idea of tonight's dinner was to celebrate N*** and girlfriend's success this summer at getting jobs, staying gainfully employed and earning enough money to cover their incidental expenses for the year and her rental costs. He worked two jobs and saved and saved and saved. Did not miss one shift at work and worked in education as well as retail. Both of them achieved their goals and did what they set out to do. Right on.

In other news - I started to move into my private office at work. I have a week to move into my interior office (no windows) but it has walls and doors and I will no longer be in a cubicle. I can shut the doors for privacy and to get work done. Halleluja. Today I moved all of my files over. I will move the rest next week and then work in there once my phone is cut over. I have pictures to hang and plants to carry over there and things to arrange. I want it all to look together. So have to get that going. Woot. This is very good news.

This weekend I have a few plans - I am going to a chocolate making class tomorrow out in Concord. My friend, J*** and I will be doing that together. It runs from 2-4pm tomorrow. Hopefully it is in an air conditioned facility as it is supposed to be hot tomorrow.

Other than that - my weekend plans are open - I need to do laundry and clean up around the house.

Hope all is well with you in your part of the world! Comment in and tell me what you are up to!

So I was supposed to go out tonight - but I am not feeling well - some intestinal bug - and so I had to cancel my plans for tonight. I had fun plans. I was going to go out for burgers with friends and go see this movie Chef. The movie is about a gourmet chef who through some missteps ends up running his own food truck. It looked charming and kind of fun. I really wanted to see it. Anyhoo. I will get to that when I am feeling better.

Tomorrow, I have plans to go comic book shopping and to see Edge of Tomorrow - the latest sci fi epic with Tom Cruise. I bought tickets already so I hope I feel better. I am going no matter what I guess. I have IMAX tickets and those are spendy.

I got some over the counter remedy to see if that stops some of the symptoms. Will see how that goes.

I am personally crushed that California Chrome (race horse) did not win today (The Belmont Stakes) and so lost his chance at the Triple Crown. I was kind of excited about that. Anyways. Bummer there.

Not much is new here. Work is calm - summers are great at the Uni - less students, more time to get things organized and do background projects. The pace is slower and there are no lines at lunch. So that is all fun. I am trying to plan some vacations coming up. Might go to Portland the end of July. Do a staycation here some week and then save time to help my parents move coming up in the Fall.

That is about it. Hope all is well with you where you are. Cheers!

I am really glad it is the weekend. Work is challenging right now and I need to unwind. Here is the short story.

I went to see a movie last night. Tom Cruise's latest, Oblivion and hey, I really enjoyed it. It held together for me and I was totally in the mood for a sci fi film. Let me say that while I don't agree with Tom Cruise and his religious life, I do like his acting and this was a solid film for him. I liked the characterization and found him good here. The film was visually beautiful and interesting. So thumbs up from me on this one. Not all the online reviews agree with me on this one so you decide if you will see it. I really liked it.

I have a birthday gathering tonight. We are going out for steak at the Outback. My friends kid's 18th bday. We love a good steak and it should be fun. Tomorrow I have a dinner plan and I might get my nails done.

I had an event last week and have one next week. I got some apps in for two new positions at work (don't mention this at all on FB as I have work people on there - so keep it here only) and I hope that something will come of this. I am a little tired of my co-workers and want a new environment.

I am really glad they caught the Boston Marathon bombers (one dead and one in custody. That is good news.

Anyhoo that is all for me here. I posted some graphics offers around and that is about it.

Cheers to you and hope you have a great weekend.

Blurbs here!
-new layout is up - art is called The Anarchist by the street artist Banksy. I was totally inspired by the documentary I saw about him last night. He is very interesting. The documentary was called Exit Through the Gift Shop. Lots to say about graffiti art and I learned a lot.
-have spent lots of money on cat toys for Teddy. My neighbor gave him a new cat bed and he is living in style here. He is very fun and seems to be adjusting well. He greets me when I come home by flopping at the top of the steps. Very cute.
-I hung out with J yesterday. Got some great deals on cosmetic jewelry - bracelet, necklace and earrings - at two different places but I really like what I got. 40 percent off one place and a freebie at a flea market end of day special. Nice. We made crab cakes for dinner and watched the previously mentioned documentary. Interesting.
-Today - I did laundry and will be going to the new Die Hard movie. Yeah.
-Tomorrow I am getting my nails done for my big event this week. Gonna have to look good.

I love having an extra day off.

Cheers to you and have a great day!

Here I am on night two of Hanukkah. One more candle on the menorah and here we go!

In other news...

I spent the day with friends today. We took the ferry to Pier 39, the tourist area and traipsed around there. Had a great lunch at The Chowder and I did have chowder in the bread bowl. It was fabulous, really delicious. We saw the sea lions on the pier and did a little shopping - I did not buy hardly anything - just some penny candy. Then we walked down to the Ferry Building to catch the return ferry back to Oakland.

Back to work tomorrow. Could use one more day off. LOL. Hope you all had a great weekend. Cheers.

So today was a very good day. I went out with my friend J*** and her son, N*** and we went to Alameda, CA. We stopped at the gourmet market and I got a few macarons and then we went to the park by Alameda Beach. It was a gorgeous day, in the seventies and nice and sunny out. We walked on the beach and then in the park. Saw all sorts of birds - flocks of geese, an egret and some ducks. Very cool. I got my food shopping done for the week and in general had a very nice day.

My back is feeling a little better. The walking was good for it. I have been icing it all weekend and I think activity is good for it. I am going to make a point of taking a good stroll every day. I do walk to and from work but more walking might be better.

Anyhoo. That is my report. I hope you all had a great weekend. Back to work tomorrow. La!

Have to to the following:
-get cat food for Ms Thing in the varietals that she likes. She has expensive taste.
-go food shopping

Then I am thinking of getting my nails done at the neighborhood shop and might catch a movie later - either Seven Psychopaths or Alex Cross. Cannot decide which. Then again, I might just stay in. I am undecided. I should write some fan fic so I would start on my story for the Valinor Awards (chaotic_binky's thing). Anyhoo.

Drive by posting on Saturday. Out to run some errands. Hope your day is going well. No one posts anymore - I would love to see more updates here on LJ. I am reading!

Cheers.

Having a nice Sunday and end of vacation day. I tried not to mope around too much here all by myself. It was so nice having company for a week with [livejournal.com profile] khylea around. She is so fun to have around and hang with and is a great house guest. We have plans to see The Hobbit when it comes out in December so I am looking forward to that.

Got my laundry done today and then went out with my friend J*** to the local nursery in Berkeley - I love looking at plants. We went for amazing pizza at Gaia Pizzeria in North Berkeley and then had some coffee at the French Hotel. We stopped at a bakery and I got a cupcake and then the girl was giving away the chocolate chip cookies for an end of day thing. Nice. Free cookie! I am saving it for tomorrow.

So no moping here. I am heading into a really busy week with event prep and such. Two events happening. Lots to do. I checked work email and got rid of all the spam and glanced. I admit to doing that much. Give me a bit of an edge going in.

Cheers to you and yours and hope you had a good weekend.

PS- thank you to perkyandproud and numenora for the panda's for my profile! *huggles*

I took today off today. I called in sick and am totally enjoying my day relaxing, drinking coffee, watching my special features on my new Hunger Games DVD, wearing PJ's all day, hanging with Ms. Thing etc.

I had a really good weekend - saw Expendables 2 (very good and action packed movie, makes me want to see the first one) and went to the farmer's market and Oakland Zoo on Sunday.

I guess I am not all that thrilled with my projects right now and so don't really have that much fun at work at the moment. I am working on a retirement party with this person that is totally rude and am working on a donor party that I don't even get to go to. That is pretty good as I don't spend my weekend going to events. Anyways - I need to amp the professionalism and get these things done. I am waiting for my raise to come through and that will make things better or I will feel better. I am due a big retro-active payment and then an increase. I want my money.

Anyhoo. This Hunger Games DVD is very good. I am loving the companion special features - casting notes, about the books etc. Very fun. I really love the universe and think that the books were well realized on film.

Anyhoo - how is your Monday? I am glad I skipped mine.

Here is a selection for Bunday and this is interesting because he has a major amount of body art. Most of these photo shoots have guys that don't have any of that. This guy's ink is impressive too...beautifully done. I am not that into tattoo's but though I would post this for a different kind of thing...

I am having a very relaxing weekend and I have done a lot of writing on my AiA story. I am in really good shape with it and think I will give it a rest for now. I hit 6k on the word counter and now need to do some story planning to get the rest of it done. I don't want it to range out of control now so plotting needs to happen.

I like relaxing and hanging out. Spending time with the Boo. I don't know what is up for Memorial Day. Something low key for me. I might go see the Avengers again. I am totally up for that again. Popcorn and the team! Yayus.

Anyways. I hope everyone is having a good weekend, wherever you are. Enjoy the extra day off in the USA.

Cheers!

See if that gets you to read and comment. Friday the 13th! Gratuitous post! Not much to say. My tooth hurts less but I have still made a dental appointment for Monday with a new dentist in my neighborhood. Argh. I have dental anxiety so maybe that is what got me in this mess. When I was young, I had a bike accident and had to have all this major dental work as a kid. That must be the root of it all for me. I just have to woman-up and go in there. Ugh!

Work is grinding to a halt this week. I have plans with a friend for lunch and a movie tomorrow (Safe House).

That is all for now. Cheers!

Here I am with a weekend update. I just got back from my friend's club where I did a hot tub and relaxed at the facilities. It is nicely situated in the Berkeley Hills with views of all the bridges and the bay all a glitter from the veranda. Really nice.

Yesterday I hung out with my friend J***. She needed some gal pal action as she is dealing with some devastating things happening. Her oldest friend from childhood is dying from complications due to a congenital heart condition. Long difficult story and much sadness. I took her for a manicure, then we went to some plant nurseries and gathered ingredients for a BBQ complete with burgers, corn and other fixings. It was a good day and my strategy of distraction worked. She had a good time.

Today I did some launderama stuff and tonight I think I will go food shopping to stock for the week. I don't really celebrate Easter so it was a low key day.

Hope all who do celebrate had good times with family and enjoyed the meaning of the holiday.

Cheers!

Alex Kovas )

I just realized I am a day off as today is Saturday. LOL anyways here he is. One day early. I am off a day because I had Friday off. Oops! Enjoy this anyways for your weekend.

Today, I am going to Chevy's Fresh Mex for lunch with a friend who is retired. I have a coupon for a half price entree so good deal there. Then I am going out to Walnut Creek with a friend. I want to look at winter coat deals and maybe go to the book store. We will probably go out to dinner. Today is a bad day for the diet but I will walk tomorrow and eat well. Anyhoo.

I love long weekends.

Cheers!

Here is a pictorial share of the monarch butterflies - Ardenwood Farm, Fremont, CA

I did not want to resize the photo - it is a big picture, but needs to be that way so you can see the butterflies.

Behind the cut as the photo is large... )

We walked to see them in the eucalyptus grove there and then looked around at the farm animals that were there - sheep, an aviary, goats and chickens. It was very fun and relaxing. The cost of admission to the park was 2.00 and a bargoon for all that fun. We got this one pic of the monarch butterflies but they were all over the grove there and there were loads of them.

After that we drove to the town center and went to Bronco Billy's Pizza - phenom pizza and for 4.75 you can get a two topping individual serving pizza that is more than enough for one person. We each could only eat half of it and took half of it to go for later. I am going to eat mine tonight for a light dinner.

There are great antiques and collectibles shops in Fremont and it is a fun town to stroll and shop in. I got some good deals. I bought some costume jewelry rings (3.00 each! a pink one and an amber one...I am really into rings right now) and I got these very pretty turquoise earrings at the Native American jewelry store there (reasonable deal on those at 24.00). I got a very pretty vase for 11.00 (darling, two handled, painted floral from Bavaria) and that was a mark down. I picture a small bunch of daisies in that and will put it in the living room.

So fun was had and that is the report today. I am loving that I have tomorrow off and don't have to set the alarm. I am enjoying my mini-vacay and decompression time. Tomorrow, I plan on revising my Slashy Valentine and getting that into shape for my brave beta, [livejournal.com profile] khylea. I have finished it (sort of) but the end needs rewriting.

There, that is the state of me. Hope you are having a good weekend! Cheers!

Here is a lovely picture from the 2012 Dieux du Stade Calendar...which I did not buy this year but I have the photos, woot! I am re-using last year's calendar in a thrift measure and because I did not want to spend all my amazon dollars on this one this year. So we can enjoy the photos, sure thing!

*Not safe for work, not at all*

Here they are! )

In my world...

Today, we are going to see the congregation of the monarch butterflies (the migration and confluence of butterflies) in San Leandro. Usually there is a swarm of 100's of them but this year there are 1000's of them. I am super excited about it and looking forward to it. We are going to get pizza too at a nice pizza place down there. Yays!

Here I am with a weekend post...doo bee doo. What to say?

I had a good week. Got a lot accomplished at work. I have an event next week in Pasadena CA so I had to kick it and I did. I am not going to the event which is great. I don't want to go. I am remote controlling this one from here and I can miss this one. Hoping it works. We have three other people going for this one so the budget is not there to send me on the trip. So that is ok. I get nervous when I am not there to see to the details and have to direct off site but that is how it goes. Not my fault then is it? Only so much I can do this way. Plan for all contingencies.

Last night I went to the mall (San Leandro) and checked out the Eileen Fisher Store and Nordstom rack. I bought a substantially reduced sweater at EFS and then found a way cheap EF shirt at Norstrom for about 150.00 less than it would have been at the other store. Happy about that! I like clothes but never pay full price. That is my motto. I always have to get a deal. The sweater is a grey, cashmere cowl neck and will be warm on the chilly winter days.

This weekend will be full of laundry, cleaning and nice weather and I have an idea for a little scene story about elves sunbathing (First Age under the new Sun). I should write that.

Anyways. That is all I have and I hope that you are well!

I think today will be chore day and getting things done. Laundry, cleaning and etc. I am trying to clear up time to write tomorrow and make some headway on my story for the OEAM big bang. It is rare that I have uninterrupted time to work on a story so I hope to do that.

Nothing much else of interest here. See previous updates for the fun.

I went to the Marsh Theater in SF last night to see lesbian comedian Marga Gomez do her standup comedy one woman bio-show called - Not Getting Any Younger* - it was her anxiety, phobic thing on getting older and hysterically funny. She is considered the first out lesbian comic in America and was very funny. The show only cost 15.00 to see for open seating in a very small intimate theater so I think I will do this again. We had great seats and it was all BART accessible. She does a comedy show (with local people) at the Berkeley Marsh Theater on Monday nights so I think I will check that out. A good night. We went to La Traviata Restaurant and had a great meal and woo hoo, I was out on Saturday night. No way.

Today, I am going to go hiking in Tilden Park with my walking partner. Change up our walking routine and do a different walk today in nature. That should be fun.

That is it for me. I am here with coffee and might head out to the Farmer's Market in a few minutes to get my produce for the week. Cheers!
